I haven't bought a laptop for myself for a few years. Am I that out of the loop that £500 is classed as budget? I quite like the HP Envy TouchSmart 15-j051sa. But £800?! Is that the price we're paying for decent kit these days? Yeesh..

Ok, things SEEM to be ok (see that Fate, i haven't said its sorted so don't get tempted)....apart from one user, but thats a whole different issue. Interesting thing is i installed the 8 new PC's using the software that came with them, i've just reinstalled an older one by purely using the drivers on the server and that one is appearing in the add printer list....

The amount of times this place has saved me from a meltdown is unreal and for that I'm eternally grateful. I was reading some of my old posts from way back in 2007 and it's quite interesting to see how I've developed from being a complete newbie Network Manager to someone who erm...is a bit better haha and that's all because I've got a virtual term of several thousand techies available to give advice or pass the hob-nobs. I notice that they're appearing in the Device and Printers pages of clients that are locked down.... 41 read and no replies....

Right, I've installed the printers on the server. Shared them, added them to the list directory but yet when i do a search from my machine i get the "no printers available" message. When i press "The printer i want isnt listed" and click "Find a printer in directory" there they all are. I've never managed printers with AD but have tried changing some settings to: Allow printers to be published: Enabled Allow pruning of published printers: Disabled Check published state: Enabled, every 1 hour Directory pruning interval: Disabled Directory pruning priority: Disabled Directory pruning retry: Disabled Log directory pruning retry events: Disabled Printer browsing: Enabled Prune printers that are not automatically republished: Disabled Allow print spooler to accept client connections: Enabled I've bounced the print spool but doesnt seem to have helped. I seem to have gone from having a few printers listed but now there are none....

Come on then you clever lot. I'm about to have our printers upgraded and we're gaining a few more. I'm trialling PaperCut and through that i've come to the realisation that i haven't installed the printers the way they needed to be for PC-NG to be able to monitor the laptop printing. Cue me thinking how the hell am i going to sort this out. But... New printers + my OCD means IP's will possibly be changing thus rendering network printers currently installed on laptops useless (but then drivers may be an issue too i guess). SO.. Is there a way i can create some sort of file that when clicked, will remove the old printers and install the news ones? I imagine a few of you are going "duh, yeah" but it's not quite my forte! I currently use VB scripts to install printers onto our network machines (keeping it old skool) so have had a play with that to see if i could tweak it for what i need but haven't had much luck. TL: DR i want something i can tell the staff to double click that removes any existing networked printers and adds new ones....

As those few poor souls that follow me on Twitter (I don't recommend it) will know, i have been trying to choose a laptop for myself, rather unsucessfully. For some reason, i am finding this particulary challenging. I find a laptop i think i'd like, and then i read a review. I'm starting to wonder whether they are actually a help or a hinderance. So, I have a budget of £500 to possible £600. With some convincing i may be able to go higher, though people have said "why not Mac!" but i really need some convincing as to why i should shell out that extra £300. So, what i'd really like is a good chunk of memory, a good chunk of storage and a 4th gen intel processor. I'd like to be able to do some casual gaming and the usual Office type stuff. Anyone already got a laptop that they recommend? I was looking into Lenovo's and Dells but am happy to look elsewhere if someone can recommend a brand. And no, it doesn't have to be a purple, but one of those nice slim ones would be nice!

So, installed client on the laptop..printed to pages. Nothing registers, counter doesnt drop.

I will do it on domain machines when i'm happy with the setup and stuff. Odd as my domain machines are picking up people printing fine without it. Will go install client on her laptop now.

i haven't installed the client on any machines at the moment whilst testing. Do non-domain machines definately need it to function correctly then?
