We have similar symptoms but more intermittent. There are currently two nics that are teamed. Tomorrow, as part of the elimination process, we will try just one nic and see what happens.

I couldn't see the shortcuts in All Users. I'll check the group policy settings. Thanks. I've created a shortcuts folder on a shared drive and put them in there, which is quite tidy.

I'm happy with my carphonewhorehouse deal. 500MB data, 250 minutes of calls and 5000 texts for £7.50 a month. OK it's a Galaxy Ace and doesn't support flash (unless you mess around with it) but it suits me. The only thing is, their minutes seem to be a lot faster than my watch.

I'm sure there's a simple answer to this but with all my other problems, I can't get my head around it. Software which is being deployed by group policy is largely fine but occasionally I want to install something locally on a single machine and when I do, it is not available to other users who log on. I believe this is an issue with older software but I've just installed some SEN stuff our LEA want us to trial and that's doing the same. I've got around it by putting a shortcut on a shared drive but there must be an easier way?

Anyone? A reboot when everyone had gone home has got it back up and running but chances are it will fail again. I'm starting to think it could be a switch that's causing the problem but isolating that isn't going to be easy, especially as it's an intermittent fault (it happened once last week and once yesterday). Every switch in the school is less than a month old. They are unmanaged at present. Any suggestions on things I can try would be appreciated.

Our new server 2012/Win7 system has thrown up another strange one. Clients suddenly lose one or more shares. They may just not respond or they could be red-crossed. A moment later, they are back. Then a file won't open or opens and won't save. The drives are mapped through group policy but I'm wondering if I could create a login script to map them as well until I can get to the bottom of it. Needless to say, the staff are giving me a hard time but when I suggested they all come out so I could reboot the server, arms went up in horror. I'm waiting here for everyone to go home so I can do a reboot but I'd welcome any suggestions. Edit: I've just tried opening up some machines and they are all hanging on user profile service. Could it be a profiles issue? Edit2: probably not, I think the profile issues are down to not being able to see the shared drives.

Virtually nothing works here with IE10. We've introduced Chrome a little earlier than planned. Problem solved.

I've been using this for sometime as it's great for turning computers on and off. Since we upgraded our network (unmanaged Procurve 2610 switches), Server 2012 and 32bit Windows 7, it has become very slow to scan and doesn't resolve a lot of the host names. Their Tech support asked me to send a screen image of a ping. That got me having a bit of a play and I found that I could ping a machine that the scanner manages to resolves the host name by pinging the ip address or the host name. I can ping the ip of the computers that don't show the host name but I can't ping the host name. Anyone any idea what might be going on please?

I've been trying to get French software installed on Windows 7 and it's not going well! I looked on the Boardworks site and saw this. Nothing happens when you try to launch a presentation from the menu when running Windows 7. This is caused by an incompatibility issue with some older versions of Boardworks software when installed on Windows 7. Please contact Boardworks by emailing [email protected] or call us on 0845 0 300 400 to enquire about compatible versions for your product. Is it fairly common for old software to be too much of a pain to try and get running in Windows 7?

Our LEA has advised us to reconfigure Teacher Timeline refresh rate to 900. I don't know if it works yet because we've not done the upgrade.

This is for fire drill as much as the real thing, where I'm sure the Fire Service will do a thorough search anyway. I suppose it would still help them if we said we were couple of kids short?

My car has been making a tinkling rattle when going round right hand bends. It's about due for a service but today, as it was warm and sunny, I thought I'd take a look. I took the wheel off and had a good scout around but I couldn't see anything and concluded it was going to be something expensive. I replaced the wheel and popped down to Aldi to get my herring in mustard and sauce and baking spuds for next week's lunch. Lo and behold, no noise. I didn't notice any foreign objects fall out and wonder if it might have been something in the shock absorber that came away when I jacked up the car and it extended. Anyway, I'm glad it's fixed because I have to pick my son up from the airport on Tuesday and I didn't fancy losing a wheel on the M5.

In one of our suites, we had a 150mm strip of ply-board running along the wall and then 600mm worksurface butted up to that but a 100mm or so higher. This made a tray for the cables and provided extra room because the computers could be pushed further back. It looked quite neat but collected dust and grunge that the cleaners ignored.

What OS are you using? We've just upgraded to Server 2012 and had to keep the old server running SQL2008 for the time being. Our LEA has told us not to do the update for the time being because of the issues.

Strange. I just got round to trying again and it worked using the Windows drivers. Except that it just kept churning out copies. Turning off bi-directional printing fixed that.
