We don't pay for printers or toners out of that but everything else is. You get really good at making things last. One site has 6-7 year old machines in the classrooms but adding ram we've got them working with win 7 well enough for what they need without complaints. Guy over the road would laugh because he had double for a lot less. Staff wonder why we no longer give laptops to all staff.

yep it's very tight. We have 5 sites, over 300 machines, 8 servers, about 30-40 whiteboards.

When planning your budgets how much of your total budget do you keep for emergencies? We get a 25k budget and look to reserve 3k for emergencies. We also ensure that prices we say for equipment will never be exceeded. E.g. Computer are added as £350 but we tend to get for £310 for classroom machines. This adds to the reserve but isn't guaranteed funds as prices can go near £350. Should cover a new server if needed, random laptop requests or general failures.

Watching screens and they are trying to create program's on learn.code.org. Just watching the student that's in the lead of completing the puzzles. She's one line from it working and I so want to help and take control to just drag it in. Been stuck on it for 10mins. On a different site so can't help as they get freaked out if we send messages.

Have you enabled the delete profile after so many days in the new policies like our LEA did and let them save on local profiles? That would explain why its not on the server backups. Hopefully not as your stuffed then. What about her profile location if you save the profile to a network location. Ours is in a different location to their home directories.

Hi, We have a licence for AB Tutor control v6 and dont use it for any policies as you have to have the machines on before you can apply. We had impero for a year which seemd to work ok but we cant justify the ongoing costs and it seems the day the support contract ended the file blocking policies went crazy. Could be conicidence but who knows. Noticed AB tutor has v7 out. Is v7 still the same with only letting you apply policies to connected machines? Thanks

Yeah, i've heard mixed things about it. Some say it works some say it doesnt. Only problem i have is that the infant school has no money. tried going for AB ttor control for £250 for one licence before. We (my main school) has ab tutor licences and wondered if we could just install the client on their machines as you only pay for the teacher computers but because its a different site they wont let us.

Just trying italc to see what its like. I cant seem to work out a way to add a range of ip addresses or a list of computers to italc. Will be a long job adding 1530 ip addresses in. Is it possible?

Another step in the install process to show everyone when they only just cope with clicking two tick boxes. Sometimes forget that to. Where we only have 3 hours at the site I have setup mdt and wds so that once I click the go button I know it will work without me touching it again. I have the console to roll out proxy and all the other settings automatically and the script to just install and contact the server.

Yeah, was juggling 10 things at once. That was me half way through testing to see if the administrator could only see the system32 directory. Didnt try running like that but obviously copied at the wrong time.

Hi, Im trying to create a bat file to install Sophos. The batch file should check if the Sophos installed file exists and run if it doesn't. The problem im getting is that if the file exists it still runs the command IF exist C:\Windows\System32\SophosInstalled.txt (copy "\\SERVER\Apps\Sophos\SophosInstalled.txt" "C:\SophosInstalled.txt")

Hi, We are just about to purchase some intel NUCs for our admin staff. They NUCs come with a mini HDMI port but the monitor at the mo only have VGA. We have thought about purchasing new monitors but thinking they could probably last another year. They dont complain about them but would like to upgrade them at some point, we have a reduced budget this year though. Has anyone had any experience with HDMI to VGA adapters or mini display port to VGA? Would like to know how the quality of picture is compared to a pc with a VGA output. many thanks

Hi, Weve recently taken control of a new network. Our LEA has setup th evlan so we can have two way full network access. Ive run constant ping checks and not one has failed. For some reason the server cannot copy anything large accross the network. Ive tried doing a backup straight to the nas and even copying and pasting just the folders. Ive also tried copying the data to one of our file servers. The files start to copy and then it just fails after a while and the the network location is no longer available. The nas isnt part f any domain and has its own access password, the file server is on our domain which is different to the new school. The only thing i can thing of is that after a while if the connection times out because i havnt browsed the files in explorer. Cant thinkg of anything else at the min or the anwer of any timeouts. Any ideas?

Can also go into the folder, hold down shift and right click. You get a open with command prompt option

Hibernation disabled by hyper-v, checked the page files and it seems only the C drive is setup for this. Noticed the drive had shadow files enabled. Tried disabling but still no joy. About 150 gb unused space that can't be shrunk

Just tried a scheduled task with defrag command but windows has loaded and the defrag is still not finished so guessing it's not going to move the data still. Will check in the morning.

Just trying to shrink down some partitions to prepare a local backup drive which I can then export to delete all partitions. Both partitions are saying they can only be shrunk minimally because of unmovable files. I've never needed to defrag since early xp so not used third party defrag apps. Can anyone recommend anything to do a proper defrag that I can schedule from windows schedular. If poss the program should restart the server automatically when finished so I don't have to visit the site. Something safe to use on a server. Thanks

Thanks, Looks like all they've done is just list prices from the main site. No difference compared to dell.co.uk. The server I want has come down £150 though. Now to decide, higher specs or save the cash for something else.

Hi, We have a couple of pupils from the college who are trying to login to their college files from our network. Whe they try it shows them the standard windows login box (the one with switch user). When they type their user and password in it seems to try and authenticate with our domain. Ive tried adding "college.ac.uk\" and then the username but still rejects it. Any ideas? Cant get any help from them at the moment.

Up at Bett on Wed and at the Dell stand they were showing of some website which has some discounted stuff, maybe for education but can't remember. Any idea what the site is? Many thanks
