  1. I know the feeling! If we ever need to reinstall from scratch i wait till after school and add an IP range exception for that VLAN and then re install
  2. Do you have any way of adding an IP based exception to your proxy?
  3. +1 for xibo running on linux VM pushing content out to several large plasma's around the school and then our canteen use to publish their daily menus (took about 10 mins to train them the basic login, upload and away they went). Most of the screens are running use micro format HP's either tucked in the roof or behind the screen on the mount.

    Best Projector

Bought one casio unit and then never looked back. All new rooms are having them put in straight away and we are slowly changing over all the old IWB installations to having casio LED projectors. Staff prefer them greatly over the old projectors and haven't had any issues with any so far.
  5. We have around 300 ish sixth form students we have over the last 2 years added around 20 machines to the Library which are sixth form use only and expanding to a further 20 in their dedicated ICT / work room located within the common room. There are also a few rooms dotted here and then which are generally left open (no dedicated teacher to the room) so that if they require PC access they should be able to find one. We also provide open student wireless which runs through the SSL Login page of our smoothwall. We will help if there any issues connecting to the wireless etc, install software such as photo shop if they are enrolled on a relevant course. I'm looking at setting up the web print part of our PaperCut setup so they can login and remotely print to the photocopiers. Many of them bring their own laptops or tablets which they work from and many of them quite happily connect themselves up and get on with it. Team consists of 4 techs running a school of 1600 pupils / 200 staff and nearly 950 desktops. You just need to carefully thinking about what, where and how many PC's if any you are going to put in and how long you want them to last for.
  6. looking more for a web based one as then we can view on phone / tablet
  7. can you limit who can access etc to it?
  8. What do you guys use to keep all our documentation in one place? Looking for a sort of online wiki that i can edit and put through walk through documentation with text n images. Currently use the RTFM section on our helpdesk but always keep forgetting to upload the new versions of the word docs onto it
  9. just a quick google Sell Computer Hardware Liquidators | Sell Used Computer Equipment thought about listing some of it on here? Some people might interested in your excess kit
  10. Surely if the power supplies are all the same (assuming a bulk buy of laptops at the time) then it doesn't matter if a different one comes back with it. So long as its that models charger and it works. As you say its creating a large amount of extra work that you could spend doing something much more productive.

    Laminators

as @glennda has said we use a roll laminator but we with our new photocopiers we have started trialling the new rich "plastic" paper. Which you can print straight onto as if printing normally and is virtually indestructible and many parents / teachers have commented that it looks much nicer up on the walls than some badly laminated piece of paper. Many you could find something similar?
  13. i will give this ago when im back in next week as i believe one of my accounts throws up a keychain prompt.
  14. you should be able to set the robocopy script to run as a scheduled task so it will either run every day at say 1am or every other day or every week depending on how frequently they store videos.

  18. If a student changes their password in AD and then goes and uses a mac that they have used before it asks them about changing the password in the keychain but it won't accept their new or old password so just click continue to ignore it but it will pop back every time they login. Does any one know way of stopping this from popping up? Cheers

  22. We are taking on the management side as we hope to move an IP based system running vivotek cameras and zoneminder but premises and various people will have logins to be able to view and download content. On the basis that the head caretakers likes it and understands how to use it means we shouldn't have to get involved very much apart from when they want a new camera / the server breaks
  23. Have a kid trying to open outlook but throws an error of "Cannot open your default email folders. The information store could not be opened" Does any one have any ideas as to why this happens and how to fix it?
  24. I had this the other day under sys preferences sharin when you can set the shares up under advanced (i think) only AFP is selected by default you need to tell the macs to share via SMB so windows can see the shares
