Yes, we have EEES. Does it have a dashboard type view, and allow monitoring of the above? Also, is it particularly demanding server-wise? We don't have much resource left on our cluster.

Hi folks, I'm after something to monitor around 20 mostly 2008R2 servers that will show if there are issues with excessive CPU, memory, disk, and/or network issue. Is SC Ops Manager the thing, or is there something better? Something with a simple dashboard view would be particularly helpful. TIA

OK, I found it in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\Install on one of the 32 bit servers. I saved out the folder somewhere else, pointed the 64 bit server's Print Management > Add Driver to it, and have updated the driver. Fingers crossed this solves it. For reference, and Google searches, the old driver is 5.0.1.32926. The new driver is 5.0.1.62126.

Hi folks, We've been having a few printing issues, potentially related to the HP 2600n printer. Coincidentally a recent Windows Update showed a driver update for the 2600n printer, dated Feb 2013. This update appeared on some of our servers (32 bit), but ironically not our main print server which is where the issues lie (64 bit). Of course we can install 32 bit drivers on the 64 bit server for use by 32 bit machines, which again is where the trouble seems to lie. Anyone know how we can get hold of the driver update package that was on the 32 bit servers, so we can add it into print management on the 64 bit server? TIA

The difficulty we face that is that Office 365 is provided by the LA, and it uses non-standard authentication (via the LA themselves). Currently the LA version only includes email, and nothing else.

No, not on the server. I think because this is being stored as local appdata, rather than roaming appdata i.e. Java doesn't support roaming appdata. It's pointing to C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache You can turn off saving temporary files, but it seems to be a user specific setting, annoyingly. The US$64M question is how can I turn this off on mass? (assuming this is the issue)

Presumably it just boils down to the application settings not roaming for the users? Having checked, for our 1,400 users it currently takes up 180GB on the file server.

Hi folks, I've inherited a 2008R2 domain, and there are a number of group policy folder redirections in place for staff and students. Understandable for Documents, Downloads, and Favorites, but it also includes AppData(Roaming). Is it generally a good idea to have AppData doing this? Some of the folders it's creating are very large (close to 2GB in some instances). TIA

Yes, we do redirect to the file server. I've inherited the setup so not sure of the implications of changing it?...

Tried removing from authentication, and still crashes. - it doesn't appear to be Ranger - administrator accounts work with Java - both staff and student accounts crash IE when launching Java code e.g. Little Man Computer applet Aaaaaaaaaagh!

Duke5A/themightymrp: unfortunately for students it's all disabled through GPO. I've tested with one of the management accounts and Java works without issue. It's becoming a major problem here because a part of the syllabus is written around Little Man Computer and YouSrc. One thought is that I'll try removing the sites from our authentication on Smoothwall, if a proxy could be the issue.

Hi folks, We've got an (Excel 2010) spreadsheet that has staff absence data. So far this contains 2 years of data, with each year in a different sheet. This data needs to be reported for the last 12 months on a rolling weekly basis. Can anyone see an elegant way of doing this in Excel? (I'm guessing it would be made a lot easier by merging both years into one sheet) TIA

On a related note, does anyone remember what Kaleidos looks like when first installed. Do you get a wizard to setup the basics for the school?

That's my understanding also, that it's just a "launchpad" (seems Windows 8 influenced) as I understand it. I don't know whether you get any applications bundled, but my question centres over this Sharepoint app (vs. Kaleidos). Would RM *really* pull the plug on Kaleidos without any migration option?

I had Unify demonstrated at BETT, so am pretty clear on what it does. The big question really is what's happening with Kaleidos? I'm guessing nobody knows, or isn't saying!

Hi folks, I attended BETT, and at the RM stand got a demo of Unify (and RM Books). The person doing the demonstration showed a Sharepoint button, which when opened offered a school customisation (specifically a wizard that set it up for either a primary or secondary school). As we use Kaleidos the immediate question this prompted was "what's happening to Kaleidos?!". The answer was that [paraphrasing] "it's using an old unsupported version of Sharepoint and may well become end of life and/or migrated to the new Sharepoint system, or not migrated at all and we're then expected to use the new Sharepoint system", which was that demonstrated above. Now the person demonstrating this may well have been wrong, it may have been an honest behind-the-scenes view of what's going to happen, or something between the two. Does anyone have any more background information on Unify vs. the future of Kaleidos that could shed any light on the above? TIA

We've just ordered CrashPlan/Ceejay as well, albeit prior to the unlimited pricing being available. I'm just waiting for the order to go through so we can install. We're only using it to backup essential files, rather than VMs, and really treating it as an absolute worst case scenario e.g. entire school burnt down.

Lots more errors this morning, so clearly the limit is definitely reached. Ah, well if I tried to grow the volume it would say there was insufficient local disk space. Shrink has had some effect because I can now grow the two that are reporting with errors. I'm sure medium/long term there will still be an issue, because our file servers inevitably just increase in disk space usage.

I've not had a chance to look at 2012 yet, but yes with a view to Windows Server. I don't know if the qualification requirements have changed much since 2003 days.

cscott: I've run through every group, albeit most won't shrink ("data at the end of the volume"). I suspect I'll need to leave it over the weekend post-shrink to see if that has helped, at least short term. There are no inactive groups unfortunately. Of course it's somewhat impossible to say what volumes are being used... twin--turbo: A couple of different errors: DPM has run out of free space on the recovery point volume and will fail synchronization for Server XYZ in order to prevent existing recovery points from being deleted. Used disk space on replica volume exceeds threshold of 90%.

I suspect the whole thing will be farmed out, as it's too risky a project to just learn on.
