There doesn't appear to be any place in the switch properties to set a host name. But, I set the names in the forward lookup (reverse lookup populated automatically), I reinstalled PCM (I couldn't figure out how to get it to rediscover), and they're all now showing with names. Sorted!

Hi folks, Anyone experienced with PCM? I'm trying to get our switches to list with DNS names. Oddly all our WAPs list with DNS names, even though none are assigned! PCM seems to be using the system name from the WAP's setup. I have added names into DNS in both forward and reverse lookup zones, yet PCM has not populated. Anyone know how to do this? TIA

Ta. Looks like it might well have to be Seton after all. We need to use asset numbers, so have to print them at least (vs. stencilling). It seems from Avery label reviews that the print rubs off, even though they're a lot cheaper.

Hi All, We need to buy some new asset tags. The super duper foil tamperproof type are a pound each, and that seems excessive. Is there something still reasonably strong e.g. plasticised and sticky enough, but cheaper? TIA

Delayed response, but yes we use it. The biggest problem we have is stability of Java, and we've had to install three different browsers (IE, along with Chrome and Firefox) to try and minimise the difficulties with Java crashing. Anyone else using Yousrc?

Hi folks, Following on from my previous post, is there such a thing as a resource covering best practice in terms of what items should be locked down in a school via GPO? If not, how do people know what to lock down, short of ploughing through the many many options? TIA

OK, figured it out. The ADM templates needed to be put in a GPO that was being applied to PCs. I imported them under Computer Configuration, and that has worked. Thanks again Chuckster.

That doesn't seem to work either, sadly. I'm not that au fait with ADM files, but applied it under User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates, followed by a right-click Add/Remove Templates. Curiously I also spotted Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates > Windows 7 Explorer Navigation Items. I disabled the relevant items, and still no change (after a reboot). There may well be some clash of GPOs at this point, which will no doubt take some unpicking, unless anyone else has a suggestion.

Thanks. Yes there seem to be things under User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer. These three specifically: No Computers Near Me in Network Locations No Entire Network in Network Locations Remove Map Network Drive and Disconnect Network Drive

Hi folks, Finding lots around this in Google, but nothing for this exact issue. I want to be disable network browsing for students, specifically where they see "Network" on the left-hand side in Windows Explorer. They use Windows 7. We have Ranger, which can limit drive access, but doesn't seem to have the facility to disable network browsing. Is it possible with a GPO? TIA

Thanks Synack, agreed with all of that. The driver here is the cost of an IT classroom with desktop PCs, which I sympathise with. Although there are of course the hidden costs with tablets e.g. longevity (lack of), breakage. I will highlight the issues again with the teachers to make sure they're clear. The main question now is whether to go with something like the Nexus and Surelock, or the LearnPad. I'll see if I can get a hardware demo of the latter. Anyone have any experience of the LearnPad?

This is the problem we face: how do we make these things bombproof, and ultimately are we even able to? At the end of the day the students should be using these for work, and should be supervised (that's the hope!).

Hi folks, I saw a load of these at BETT, but stupidly didn't take any flyers. Basically it's a flight case type box with foam inserts that allows storage of tablets (in this case I need one that does at least 16, for Nexus 7 tablets), but also has a suitable number of USB sockets to charge from. It needs to be a case rather than a trolley, so it can be carried up and down stairs. Wheels would be ideal though, like a suitcase. Anyone know someone who sells them? My Google-fu isn't finding it. TIA

Hi folks, We have a piecemeal wireless network made up of individual Netgears APs. Today I did a survey of one of our buildings and was surprised to discover that was I was fairly consistently getting around 15% packet loss (with a 60 packet test) at most places in the building. There was some channel conflict, essentially because there are 5 APs in this particular building. Would channel conflicts be the likely cause of packet loss, or broken APs? TIA

How do these compare performance-wise with the Nexus 7, and what OS do they use? I think we're almost there with the Nexus. Having checked I did manage to logout of the Google account with Chrome at least, so that solves one headache. What were the pitfalls?

Does changing the account affect which apps are loaded on the device? I know with iOS that the account is connected to the apps you get on the device.

Hi folks, We're trying out a Nexus 7, with a view to rolling out around 15 in a class for web research. I've set it up with SureLock (trial version), which appears to work well. I've used it to lock out all applications other than Chrome. My Android experience is limited though but there appears to be a circular problem, in that I have logged into the tablet with my Google account which I will presumably need to do to buy SureLock. Chrome is therefore logged in with my Google account, and potentially accessible by the students. Is there a way I can stop access to the account in Chrome? I can't see a logout option on the tablet version. TIA

Ours has changed from "CeeJay Cloud" to "CeeJay Cloud (Europe"). All our backups are on the first, but 0% on the second and no connection. Not any helpful response yet from their support...

Hi folks, Anyone else having issues with CrashPlan, specifically the enterprise version hosted in the UK by CeeJay Software? I spotted our backup source had switched and all our backups had effectively dropped to 0%, albeit historic backups were still showing. We had received no email, but it transpired they are moving servers around, but again with no detail as to when this will be finalised. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat. TIA

tmcd35: I suspect this is the route we'll have to take (contact the reseller), albeit it was more curiosity than anything as we're unlikely to use Windows 8 or Office 2013 in anger for some time. AJWhite1970: we have no keys at all (KMS or MAK) listed in the licensing page, as per the above.
