  1. Hi folks, I've come across this closed thread, but it doesn't answer my question unfortunately http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/374-multimedia-science-school-11-16-v2-0-a.html I have Multimedia Science School v2, and would like to be able to run it from the network, either in terms of network deploying it, or running from a share. The manual says there's a "Server Only" install, but doesn't give any details of how to do it, nor is it available from the install menu. I can't find the relevant switch to perform a silent local install for the SETUP.EXE, although I'm wondering if it's possible because of the license key. Anyone had any luck with the above? Thanks
  2. I can't imagine they get used very much...
  3. Ahhh, good idea! - - - Updated - - - Although potentially a lot of network traffic. Local's probably better, if you can spare the space.
  4. If you want the Sibelius sounds, yes. It's 35GB of sounds files, so not software as such.
  5. Too late I'm sure, but in case it helps anyone else... This is the guide for various versions of Sibelius. We're deploying Sibelius 7.1. I'm using the 7.1.3 full update, which includes the full install. I had to use /SILENT. Using /VERYSILENT did not install Sibelius properly. How to install Sibelius silently on Windows You have to copy the sounds from an installed and updated version, then copy them across to each install, and use a registry key to set the location, as per this guide. Installing and using Sibelius Sounds across a network
  6. Thanks @woody. I've found another system called Lessonbox. I'm also asking Polycom what video conf equipment costs are, just as a comparison. It's looking like a base system's going to cost between £5-10k.
  7. Hi folks, I've had a request for a classroom monitoring solution. Essentially one or more teachers would monitor a class in progress from another room, and provide prompts to the the teacher via something discreet e.g. in-ear headphone. The idea is the monitoring teacher(s) would not intrude on the room, to get a realistic view of how the class is going. I can think of doing this cheaply via Skype, perhaps using a "manycam" solution to bring together two webcams, and Bluetooth headphones for the teacher. Are there commercial solutions for this (I'm guessing there are £manythousand conferencing solutions), or an alternative idea? Thanks
  8. Problem solved. What you have to do is startup the PowerPoint as a slideshow *then* you can change the monitor for the second screen.
  9. Anyone had any luck deploying this with Config Manager? I've added it, as an EXE, with the /S option. Initially I seemed to get it deploy, but had a typo in the install check clause. Having tested the deployment again it just doesn't install, and then I get an error that the install check has failed.
  10. To confirm it was definitely that. Removed the text from the "Domain OU" field under "Apply Network Settings", and now the machine quite happily joins the domain.
  11. I had a look in the NETSETUP.log, and it looks like it's a failure to put the PC into an AD OU. The item specified in the task sequence is the default Computers folder, so technically not an OU. This seems like the same problem, so will try again without specifying an OU and see what happens https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/cc63dd11-83f9-4b70-82e3-8f13f28cd65e/domain-join-fails-in-task-sequence?forum=configmgrgeneral
  12. Hi folks, I have copied a task sequence that I've used successfully on another child domain. I have changed the Apply Network Settings task so that it joins this other child domain, and I've picked the relevant details from AD for both domain and OU. I've confirmed that the relevant child domain admin account is used, and the correct password has been entered. Once the task sequence has finished the PC has not been added to the domain, and is in the workgroup. I've had a look at SMSTS.log on the client, but at a guess the length of the log is too short, as it doesn't reflect the entire task sequence and I can't see mention of any error. Can anyone advise on what the issue could be? Thanks
  13. Hi folks, Looking at using quotas via File Server Resource Manager. I can't spot an option that gives an onscreen warning to the user. I can see options for email, event log etc. I couldn't rely on students to check email. Am I missing something, is there a way to get a simple onscreen warning? Thanks
  14. @DaveP and @jdoyle: Thanks, a couple more good Plan B's, C's etc.
  15. Thanks. I mentioned that in the first post, but it's not ideal because it adds bars to the top and bottom of the screen e.g. slide number. A potential Plan B though.
  16. Yep. Yep, but it has the same effect as changing "Monitor" in the Slide Show ribbon, so when I change it on presentation the other one changes as well.
  17. Hi folks, I want to replace the start menu for students with something customised. Historically we did this with RM Ranger, but we're moving away from this over the Summer. I've spotted in GP the Windows Settings > Shortcuts section. Is there a quicker way to do this, rather than having to individually create each shortcut e.g. copy the shortcuts from a set of folders? If this is the only method, how are shortcuts created within folders? Is there a way to disable existing shortcuts? Thanks
  18. Hi folks, I thought this was going to be possible, but now I'm beginning to wonder... For a Reception TV setup we want to display two different PowerPoint presentations on two different screens. This is from one PC which is connected to both the screens. The screens are in extend mode as far as Windows is concerned. I have opened the two presentations in PowerPoint, but when you go to to Slide Show > Monitor, and change the monitor, the second instance of PowerPoint immediately changes as well. So it's not possible to select a different monitor for each presentation. Tried this in PowerPoint 2010, and 2016, same problem. It is possible to run the presentations in windows, and presumably arrange them to fit, but I'd rather run these without the toolbars that appear in the windowed view. Am I missing something? Thanks
  19. I did a bunch manually, but have just tried again with a Shutdown script and got it to work. Not sure if any of these were related to getting it working: 1. The script I was using had "pause" at the end. I took that out as it was causing machines to essentially freeze when shutting down. 2. It does require Windows Update to run to update WSUS, and that doesn't happen immediately of course after the machines startup. I tested manually by shutting a PC down, starting up, and running Windows Update. The machine then appeared in WSUS. 3. I'm not sure if it had to be in the scope, but the GPO was definitely working with Authenticated Users only. I added a scope of the affected PCs. I'm waiting a few days for these PCs to be used, and then I will check if given some normal usage the rest have updated. I've spotted a few have already.
  20. Unfortunately we couldn't go with it, as it requires rebuilding the entire network from scratch with CC4.
  21. Shutdown not working either. Presumably the scope needs to be just the affected PCs, I don't need to add Authenticated Users or any other form of user group? I've seen mention of doing this via a registry edit in GPO also, as that's essentially what it's doing, so will give that a whirl.
  22. Yep, these are SSD based machines, so sounds like that could be the issue. I'll try as a Shutdown script.
  23. It needs admin privs to run, when done manually, but presumably a GPO Startup script runs at admin level? From what I've read it should. I did run it manually on 30 or so PCs and had mixed success getting them to register. The first few all appeared straight away, but others haven't. Odd.
  24. Should the batch file work as a startup script? I've tried it in a GPO, but doesn't seem to be taking effect.
