Indeed, that's what I'm doing on my test machine now, it's a shame it can't SSO off our existing provider now we know we can't run DirSync alongside iamcloud's hosted ADFS replacement. Even then be careful with larger files too, takes time to get them up to OneDrive using the WebDAV protocol these mapping tools use. Was hoping for the native API version which was meant to speed things up but seems to have gone quiet on that front?

You've been very lucky then We run one PSU from mains and one from UPS otherwise our UPS costs would be through the roof. Power at places I've worked has been ropey at best, lots of spikes and blips that pop PSUs from time to time. One went on our firewall last week despite being on a clean UPS supply.

If you live solely in Microsoft Office and run Office 2013 or above you can do OneDrive as primary storage without too much pain. It's working with 3rd party programs that becomes difficult as you either have to buy iamcloud (and move to their platform for provisioning etc.) or users have to save locally then upload to OneDrive via the web interface. Sync is a non-starter for many of us due to students using shared machines so beware of that too.

Just been speaking to a SharePoint partner this morning regarding the next-gen features Microsoft announced recently, particularly Team Sites being more user-friendly and mobile-friendly. Been reading https://blogs.office.com/2016/08/31/new-capabilities-in-sharepoint-online-team-sites-including-integration-with-office-365-groups/ which suggests we should see it on our First Release tenancy but no sign of anything new on there. Has anyone got these features showing in their environment or are MS behind schedule rolling it out?

We were using Surface 3 devices in our tests. Seemed to be more reliable from my HTC One M8 if anything After years of looking at workarounds for Bonjour Apple then sorted out Apple TV to make direct connections and that seems to work a bit more reliably. The iPad craze has died down now though so ironically not being used as much now the technology has matured enough to make use of it.

Dumb question, how does this work with WSUS if half the updates in the rollup are "Security" \ "Critical" and others are just "Updates" Do we need to manually approve these as rollups now rather than just leaving the auto-approval rule for Security & Critical as we do at present? Edit: seen this at the tail-end of one article: So presumably the important stuff will be in the auto-approved category and the other where we approve manually. Being cumulative I guess each rollup will supersede the previous version?

We had one or two in to trial - when they work they're great but found similar amounts of niggly issues with the OS \ Wi-Fi connection. Often had errors about channel clashes or random connection failures as well. Was blaming it on Win10 being flaky as it was on the earlier 10240 build but sounds like it hasn't improved.

Not been such a great experience for us after signing up with them this summer. A word of warning if you have an existing Microsoft Azure AD sync (DirSync) setup iamcloud doesn't seem to work unless they take all those duties over, which is a bit odd as other hosted SSO providers just deal with the federation side and are happy to leave user provisioning alone if required.

About time too, amazing how the teaser is the exact UI practically every OneDrive user suggested but MS told us we were all wrong Pretty much the end for anything like CDM once this gets released and finally a compelling reason to move to Windows 10 if OneDrive integration becomes as slick as the screenshot suggests.

I've been working on the problem that I originally posted as a DFS issue a while back on http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/173662-dfs-folder-redirection-preparing-your-desktop-delay.html this morning and after some detective work seem to have found the root cause but it's rather strange. Folder Redirection for Documents, Pictures, Videos and Music enabled target is a DFS share (doesn't seem to make a difference using UNC) all other GPOs are enabled as normal The problem was a very long (30 second) delay on "Preparing Desktop" when logging on a new profile. This then followed by a blank wallpaper for 20 seconds or so then desktop would finally appear. Any additional logins would be fine until the next reboot, when again the first login would be delayed. I tried the same setup on my test network with no GPOs present and it logged in immediately so went back to the live environment with the plan to strip back GPOs one by one until I got a fast login again. Eventually narrowed it down to a User Settings GPO and again stripped settings back block by block, eventually arriving at Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization It seems if I have the "Load a Specific Theme" setting enabled (to turn on Aero) it causes the slow first logon. Turning it off gives me a normal sub 10-second login speed with everything working OK, albeit with Classic Theme rather than Aero. Was wondering if anyone has seen anything like it as does seem a rather strange and specific issue. In the past we've been using a legacy style of GPO for folder redirection and it seems changing to the Windows standard method now we notice the clash.

That's where Microsoft need to get their act together and make the Windows client MDM compatible for all OS (I know 10 is moving in that direction but many users won't be on that despite MS worst efforts). Should do something like this: - user tries to sync OneDrive library - client checks for policy from O365 based on the domain - client is told by MDM policy that sync should only be allowed on encrypted devices - app queries OS to check if BitLocker enabled on sync destination drive - if BitLocker not enabled then deny sync Given the time it took to get a sync client that even worked properly I imagine the above isn't happening anytime soon but it really needs to. At the moment it seems to be a fairly blunt setting that only allows sync to domain-joined PCs, better than nothing I guess but not very flexible.

That's the next port of call for our smartphone users, although it doesn't seem to address users syncing OneDrive on a Windows PC as far as I can tell?

@Mr_Jiminy This is one area where OneDrive \ SharePoint on O365 are really lacking imho - very little granular control over where data ends up. MS were trying to sell me down the InTune route but don't think even that will give us the level of control that's really needed i.e. - allow usage of OneDrive (as 1TB storage per user comes in very handy!) - control access to sync functions per security group (not global) - control which devices are allowed to sync OneDrive data i.e. only those with BitLocker enabled What with Delve and OneDrive MS are making data much easier to find but at the same time much easier to lose or give access to people who shouldn't have it...

I use a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, had the same one on all my PCs both work and home since 2005. Think my hand has actually moulded itself into a claw-like grip that only works with that particular mouse... had a fancy Razer mouse that lasted under a day because I couldn't hold it comfortably! Don't think they're available new anymore so one to find from the old stocks that most places have piled up in a cupboard somewhere

We have both, Office 365 is the primary platform with GAFE to support the Chromebooks. Without those we'd be OK on O365 alone but Windows 10 is a long way away from being as lightweight and simple to manage as the Chromebooks. If anything it's getting more problematic to manage due to the numerous bugs making deployment far more hassle than it should be.

I had the same problem yesterday but with Aruba providing accounting rather than Ruckus. I did have it working in the past but on an older Smoothwall release so wondering if that has anything to do with it. What are you running on your S6?

May reconsider it in future but will hold off to see how it goes along with the other long-running fixes OnePlus needed to sort. Are the Doze problems resolved now?

"Use inherited permissions from the local file system" is what it's set as within DFS Management On the server file share itself Everyone has Full Control, NTFS permissions are as per MS recommendations using CREATOR OWNER etc. as per https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/274443 Edit: tried a few more things and may have a solution related to your theory in the previous post: Made a copy of the GPO pointing directly at the file server path, logins were fast without the lag Reverted back to the DFS path GPO, lag returned Changed the DFS Root share from Everyone > Read to Everyone > Full Control Next set of logins were fast, no lag Users still can't create files in the DFS Root share as NTFS permissions only grant Users > Read and Execute Hoping that may be the solution, was this the lines you were thinking of when checking the DFS permissions? Edit again: spoke too soon, second round of tests has gone back to the lag

@Steve21 which share are we talking about? The DFS root or the linked target where the data resides? Used Server 2012's default setting of "All users have read-only permissions" on the DFS Root i.e. Share permissions Everyone > Read Security permissions seems to be inheriting from the root of the drive the DFSRoots folder resides on

Related to another recent thread I've set up a DFS namespace and associated shares etc. for auto-created user home folders. That works OK but there's an odd delay on the Windows 7 login process that's stumping me at the moment as it doesn't happen consistently... new user logs into a machine, no Documents folder present on DFS share login process starts quickly, gets through Folder Redirection GPO within a second gets to "Preparing your desktop" 10-20 second delay shows the desktop with a blank wallpaper another 10 second or so delay Explorer loads with icons etc. Subsequent logins go in like lightning. The weird thing is sometimes I can delete the profile and home area i.e. reset the scenario and the behaviour repeats. Other times the login goes through normally, which is the odd part. At first I thought that was due to disabling some GPOs but a further test disproved that theory. I already have Verbose GPO logging enabled which used to be one of the recommendations a few years back but that tended to be for the Folder Redirection part of the login rather than "Preparing your desktop". In comparison our legacy setup that redirects to pre-existing folders logs in with the same GPOs without the delay. I'm poring over GPSvc logs at the moment but not seeing much apart from "User Session 1" logged in, followed by a delay then the session ends with a "User session 2" following shortly after, which I would presume is the actual Windows desktop loading. Any ideas from your experiences?
