We're looking at replacing an old SAN & virtual host at one of our remote sites, fairly light load for local resources such as: domain controller DHCP print server WSUS systems management \ software deployment imaging With some of the new tech that's come along recently there's a few more options for replacement than previous so interested to see what people would go for out of, say: single host with 15k SAS local storage single host with slower storage and SSD acceleration small SAN\ NAS with SSD acceleration hyperconvered appliance I have a feeling the hyperconverged stuff may be out of budget range and perhaps overkill. On the other hand building a single host with disk-only storage feels a bit last-gen but would probably do the trick for our purposes, although with a slight doubt on cost-effectiveness of 15k drives. Because these sites come back to our main LAN over a leased line we prefer to keep a physical box on each site to reduce traffic coming back over the inter-site link, hence the reason why cloudifying (yes I know it's not a word but I like it) the services isn't on the list.

Got a link for these sticks? Interested to see what kind of price they're coming in at. Do you block all other devices from being used or is it more of a user policy that staff have to comply with? Btw TrueCrypt is a bit of a dead duck now TrueCrypt

@VeryPC just had an email from MS saying the offer pricing ends on April 30th. Disappointing, if unsurprising as it means we can't plan on buying any more devices in once they go back to RRP pricing. Shame as feedback on them has been really good so far.

Seeing as many places are running Outlook I find it really poor form from Microsoft that they haven't backported the new GPO to prevent running macro code from email attachments into Office 2013. I know they want to force everyone onto Office 365 variants of the suite but could pretty much cut these infections out at source and save organisations a lot of grief.

Do you guys have these in stock? We ordered one from another supplier and had to wait over 4 weeks for delivery due to Microsoft being unable to produce \ deliver enough devices. Also any idea how long MS are keeping this special pricing deal going?

Spoke with one of the techs from iamcloud last week, they're looking to add auto-cleanup to the CDM client but in the meantime this as a logoff \ shutdown script is the workaround: del "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Temp\TfsStore\Tfs_DAV\*.*" /q /f

Glad someone has done this investigation, will have to give the Default Profile a go as we're pushing a custom Start Menu at the moment via MDT. As far as removing the Modern Apps has anyone done this as a step in MDT? Would prefer not to mess with the source media if I can help it and likewise would like to deploy images direct from ISO rather than creating reference images as we did in the Win7 days. Rather poor that MS haven't had a TechNet team doing the research and providing guidance. Same with the way there's never been any clear guidance on CBB vs LTSB and techs are left to figure it out for themselves.

Perhaps they'll market it as a full Windows PC that you can carry around in the pocket and as a bonus doubles up as a phone, rather than trying to compete in the smartphone market against iOS and Android where the battle is lost

Now my character is tooled up to the hilt with 150+ damage weapons I've been short of places to go to use them... then found Gunners Plaza and a Behemoth which ended messily (for them anyway) Need a decent sized DLC now, the recent robot one is apparently quite short which is disappointing. Is the Galleria the place with the racing track? I hacked a terminal and blew them all up after the first robot was less than friendly...

Does the version number end in 60?

I raised it with iamcloud as well so hopefully they can add this fix into their Cloud Drive Mapper tool as well

@Willott just found this via Google, running a clear cache script as a Shutdown script in GPO may do the trick... Happy SysAdm: Tfs_DAV folder filling up C: drive

@Warwick_Tech really glad I spotted this, been testing iamcloud recently and just did the same test and "lost" the 100MB of C: drive space I used for the upload. Not a problem on my machine with a 250GB SSD but will cause major issues on our older desktops. Is there any workaround to get the space back?

You'll be amazed how these vendors' products will suddenly become "cloud" if the frameworks require it. Of course being properly engineered for massively scalable SaaS is very different to the supplier slapping a hosted VM in Azure but I'm sure sales & marketing will get around it...

Does this suggest Azure is going to get cheaper or just on-prem hiked up instead? If it's the first then fair play to Microsoft as the Azure cloud can be a great asset, however if it's the the second then it's hello Google / other non MS vendor. Hiking up education pricing would be very poor form from either of the big two players IMO.

This ^^^ It's one thing to say on-prem licensing isn't going away, quite another as to whether it'll still be financially viable. Granted a lot can change on the technology landscape in 3 years but still the question needs answering.
