Oh I don't trust any corporation but until now MS have been reasonable with education, not convinced that's going to be the case going forward.

The market is fragmenting these days so now we're supporting... - Windows domain devices - Mac network - Chromebooks - iPads, Android, Surface - Office 365 - Google Apps (pilot) Everyone has different needs and that's before taking BYOD devices into consideration. MS really need to clarify their long term stance (post 2018 ) as after the Win10 privacy / telemetry debacle trust levels of the company are lower than they've ever been, won't take much to tip people onto Google if there's any doubt on education pricing getting hiked up.

Separate GALs in Exchange work well but SharePoint is a pain to be honest. There's no way to separate content in the same manner so any rogue shares by users e.g. sharing a OneDrive file to all by mistake will be visible to students. Similarly the people picker always shows student accounts as well as staff unless you get development work done to alter the behaviour. Ultimately you can set up permissions on SP site collections etc. to restrict access but the content boundary is the tenancy so the product can't be segmented as much as we'd like to. All that said dual O365 tenants is an even worse scenario so it's something we've had to live with.

Yup, will eventually be part of the Office 365 Education license but in the meantime can be added on in the same way as ProPlus

The Education Plus licenses appeared on their own for us but had to request ProPlus. While you're asking for licensed get Azure RMS while you're at it, worth it to have encrypted email functionality.

Wasn't the unlimited one added for the self sign-up deployment of O365 rather than manual licensing i.e. DirSync? Is it true on ADFS-linked Chromebooks the user has to end up entering their username \ password twice? Read something on the Google forums that it needs the username first to redirect to the third party's SSO login page, then again to actually authenticate. If so I'll leave ours with GAPS as it sounds a bit of a clunky process.

Yup got it in one! What's even more stupid is the InTune section of EMS pack is licensed by FTE (free for students) so within the same offer you have two different licensing models.

Depends on your user count. We have 470 FTE but 10k accounts provisioned so to license them all... ouch.

The cynical part of me suggests that's exactly why they built it that way, similar to how our free Azure AD lets users request a password reset but won't let it write back to a federated AD without Premium (and £££)

Microsoft also ripping off education with Azure AD Premium and charging per user rather than FTE. If that's their game going forward (thinking of the "Cloud Transition" agreement) then they'll be losing a lot of customers. I wanted to use Azure AD Premium for password self-service, Azure apps, EMS and so on but when our entire EES is just over £20k per year there's no way we're paying £10k / year to add Azure AD Premium at £1 per user! Lost count of the times I've complained to MS about this but still no movement on the pricing as far as I'm aware, which is very disappointing. In the meantime iamcloud are pricing more sensibly and include some other nice goodies so that route is looking appealing as an alternative.

Yup we have the same, removing the update resolves the issue. As per the above article it seems to have been pulled from WSUS; I can still search for it but shows up as Unapproved despite our auto-approval rules for Critical patches.

What action have you got on the File action i.e. Create, Replace, Update?

Could be failing due to using the short name of the domain on the netlogon path rather than FQDN?
