I am setting up a 2012 RDS server for students to log into. They use a website for reading that only works with Internet Explorer and IE10 has been a nightmare and brutally unfriendly. This is after the User Interfaces and Infrastructure has been added (previously known as Desktop Experience). Fixing the issue for all users is the hang up. Here are the problems. • If flash is installed by default in IE10 with windows 8, then why isn’t it configured to be used by the RDS users? • Java installs were successful, but java.com says “Verifying your Java version will only work in Desktop mode on Windows 8.” when trying to verify the install with IE. Is there any default solution that configures IE10 on Windows 2012 to work as smoothly as a residential home PC these kids are used to? Or will I be forced to test, and test for hours on end tweaking the 100 or so Group Policy options to get it to work right? I’m having I/O and IRQ flashbacks…. then again I did drink more and felt less pain in the 90s.

Anyone know where I can find a youtube domains list? Google was great at showing me how to get around my web filter and firewall to view youtube videos but I can't find what domains to allow to access youtube. Even the https://support.google.com/youtube/ wasn't helping me find what I needed other than 'make sure youtube.com isn't blocked'. Issue: audio plays but the video doesn't. When I disable the web content filter youtube works fine. Any assistance is welcomed, thanks!

I have a win 2008 r2 server running as a terminal server for our students. Any advice to getting IE10 to run just like (better than) IE on a desk top will be most welcomed. My first advice to students was to use Chrome that was installed, but sure enough some sites stream audio much better with IE than Chrome. Thank you!

Our school is starting to purchase several iPads. They will be in multiple departments. I'm wondering if I can use one iPad to create other 'images' in iCloud and store those mackups locally to image iPads locally as needed on the fly? For example: If I made an iCloud image of my itouch for science, and one for k-3 reading, can I store the icloud backups on my laptop and quickly make my itouch a science/k-3 reading itouch on the fly? This is the basic batch I'm running now. Works great, except when I upload a file with the same name as one already in the destination folder, the destination file gets overwritten and I need a copy of both. So I will need to rename the file in the destination folder to time/date first so I will have both versions. Can anyone think of a file copy solution from one folder to another, that will copy over only new files in real time (automated)? For example, when I ftp a file to our server, said solution will make a copy of that file and place it into another folder for shared access?

Does your OWA and exchange server share the same IP?

I've been racking my brain on why most locations are able to send email to us, however other locations (other schools for example) get mail bounced back. The locations that can make it always make it and the ones that don't never do. my exchange server 2010 ip is 64.25.235.35. My domain is parkcountyre2.org. My exchange domain is mail.parkcountyre2.org. I pass the http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ mx record checks and the inbound email flow checks from http://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com . I also pass the Best Practice Analyzer on everything I've tested. I hired a Exchange tech to remote in and confirm that everything is setup correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A new question brought up to our school has been the use of technology on site and FIRPA. FIRPA in the states is in place to help give privacy to children, and with every device having a camera it has brought up some questions. I'm wondering how you folks deal with similar issues. For example: We (staff) can not take and publish a photo of a child where the guardian has requested a photo not be taken. But what if students take the photo with their equipment? What if the student him/herself takes the photo and publishes it? What if a student takes a photo with our laptop of the other kid and publishes it? You get the point. How do you absolve yourselves of the liability from such actions when clearly their is no stopping it.

Ooh I wish I new! I'm just using the recursive tests to confirm when the forwarders lose connection to the ISP dns. (yest the snap in)

I have two DNS servers. Both fail to connect to our ISP's dns on any stable level. I've checked with the isp and they gave us new ips. After more testing they said that they are not seeing any dns forwarder queries. So I swapped out our firewall and enabled ALL traffic so it should act like a gateway. From and to the internal DNS servers, I have zero problems pinging anything internally. I'm still seeing the issue and I'm pulling out my hair. Any suggestions on where I could possibly look would be great.

(I was referring to my own wacky brain, I've been juggling these for 16hrs trying to get our school back up, apparently me shouting at the machine "you're setup correctly work" doesn't work.) BTW, I did try dropping the .0 and nothing has changed for the good. I'm currently shutting down one of the servers and will play around with everything I can find. It's also the one time that the event logs aren't yelling at me about a glaring issue. Go figure.

Just so I'm clear, because I'm at a point that I'm questioning everything. on the nic of the server, the dns should be the ips of the internet dns servers.. correct? And we use the DNS forwarders as the only location to ass the isp DNS server (or external dns server ips)

the laptop bypasses our networks dns server. Any other computer that uses our server has the connectivity problem same as the dns server.

times out. My laptop going through the same gateway pings it just fine. Somethings funky on the server for sure. Also double checked, Windows Firewall service is disabled and stopped.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.. And yes.. My BDC is 10.1.1.0.. best practice analyzer hasn't yelled at me yet =)

I just tried that. I added my ISP secondary DNS servers.. You know when you input the ips and it resolves the fqdn quickly, this takes a very long time. On the server, I'm pinging another network device ping (10.1.1.12 -t) and see no delay or drops.

Here's an example if it acting wierd. Forwarders may resolve, but connection clearly isn't reliable. ((from my machine though at the same d-mark and same gateway, I have no issues.)) [ATTACH=CONFIG]17748[/ATTACH]
