Haha, I hope I'm not the only one that mixes up Outlook version with Exchange version. Server side GAL updates aren't resolving it, so I must have missed something somewhere. Here's a pic, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, perhaps this isn't a GAL thing? I need Rachel to say Mark. I don't see Rachel anywhere on the email account anywhere, but sure enough this is what we see anyhow.

A new staff member requested that they just use the previous staff member's email. I updated the names from in Exchange's admin center. When I type the new user's email address, it shows the old employees name (from Outlook and OWA). They receive all emails just fine and we receive emails from the email account with the new name, but the Global Access List isn't updating. How can I update it to show his name and not her name?

That is a really good point. It does generate an instance for each user and of course scans everything altered. I'll definitely contact Sophos about this. Thanks again for your input.

Thank you for the reply ForgotMyPassword. It is just one Windows 2012 r2 server with Remote Desktop Services installed. Student processes hang on locally loaded typing software or even our required assessments (chrome will hang). The RAM is always good, but the CPU spikes seam fairly regular. But my underlying question is, does Clustering act as a true resource cluster or just a failover when one of the servers fail.

I'm getting CPU alerts on a Remote Desktop Server. At times, I have 40 clients connecting to the server that has 24 CPUs. I'm wondering if I buy a second server with 24 CPU and cluster the two, will the cluster act as 48 cpus for the 40 clients, eliminating the large performance drops. I ask as I see the Clustering and Failover looks to be an interchangeable word with Windows 2012. Where one is 'clustering' or sharing tasks as one computer and Failover is more of a backup/redundancy. Any clarification would be helpful with my particular problem. Thank you kindly.

I know in several states here in the US, if you don't wear green in school, other kids get to pinch you. This morning at breakfast my 9 year old asked "Do they do that in Ireland?", referring to pinching other kids who aren't wearing green. My wife chimes in "I think they wear uniforms in school", that's when I went "Clearly none of us know squat about Ireland". So my question is. Do other countries partake in the annual St. Patrick's Day tradition of having a free pass to pinch somebody who isn't wearing green on St. Patrick's Day, (particularly Ireland)?

I'm looking for a load balancing and failover solution for our RDC (terminal server) servers. I currently have two and plan to add two more over the summer. I've been considering making a cluster for all four of them for load balancing and fail over purposes but only two of the four will have identical hardware components. The other two servers will have different motherboards completely and diff CPUs (speed and cores). Should this stop me from doing the cluster? Is this a common solution for sites with 200+ thin clients?

It won't allow me to revoke them all. Only a finite amount can be. I suppose that's a good security feature.

After imaging 40 old Thin Client machines, the old 40 accounts are still Issued and locked in RD Licensing Manager, rendering the thin clients useless. /pulling-hair Can I remove the currently installed Windows Server 2012 RDS Per Device CAL license, reinstall it and everything should be able to connect quickly? Is there a quicker way of flushing out these assigned connection? My knowledge on the topic is limited, and I'm sure that is a reason why I can't find a solution online. Everything I've read said to wait 50+ days. They would draw and quarter me if I told them to wait that long. Here's a screenshot so you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I currently have five servers that would be ideal to migrate to a single Virt server to save some money. I've used VirtualBox for years, though I'm not sure on the stability of it for hosting windows server machines for extended periods of time. Can anyone suggest a free visualization solution for hosting mostly dedicated mundane servers?

Thank you for the feed back guys. I think the problem here lies with the lack of power the tech department has, being forced to adhere to the requests of the higher ups. I'm going to try and forge a policy that requires us to adhere to network security guidelines, and letting that be my Amulet of Power. Thanks again.

1: Filtering isn't defined as something other than 'reasonable', so couldn't we just ip block sites/protocols and apps as they become a problem? Why the excessive costs for managed filtering that we have to micromanage anyhow? 2: Internet use, who has the power to deny? Does your tech department outweigh the Admin staff that continue to request more and more openness and freedoms? 3: What level of network security are you required to have? Do you have a policy that states a certain standard? For years I've been trying to run a fairly tight ship. But the complaints are becoming overwhelming as we all become more dependent on the internet. I've been thinking that I should 'flip' this current structure and have our WiFi and internet access wide open. Filter a little, throttle user traffic, but mostly keep it wide open. Does anyone else do this? Did I just give up and go full blown senile?

We also use WSUS. It was worth it just to see the bandwidth open up a little bit.

A few years ago I was at a tech conference and several companies were pitching their product that would allow teachers to prerecord web videos to a server on site for later viewing. Allowing for after hours recording and then intranet playback video speeds for all the kids and teachers, seemingly making everyone happy and solving all of our problems. Ha! Has anyone used one of these or recommend one for me to look at? Much appreciated.

Vikpaw, the machine has a second nic and I tried a different jack to that second nic and same result. I've been doing a virus scan for a few hours (28% in).

Brilliant thought DaveP, I wouldn't never have thought of that. Removing printers didn't resolve the issue though. I've installed IIS on the machine and can access localhost:80 (the default iis splash page). Still can't view anything else though.

I have a client that fails instantly when connecting to any intranet or internet based website. Instantly, the browsers display "This page can't be displayed" (IE) or "This page is not available" (Chrome). Here is what I do know. • Ipconfig /all - is fine. • No proxy setup in IE or Chrome • Tracert to google.com goes beyond our isp. • Can ping 8.8.8.8 fine. • Capable of network activity. • No IP conflict (static ip, nothing else shares the ip) • Dns service is working (able to nslookup msn.com and resolve an ip) • Browsers fail instantly, even after resetting all settings to default. • Can not display even an intranet based page via ip. Any other ideas on where to look that would be stopping these browsers instantly?

Thanks for the heads up about the _tcp _autodiscover... I believe I forgot to update the offsite dns provider with an SRV also. I'm hoping that will solve the issue. Thanks again!

I'm receiving the following error on all Outlook2010 and 2012 connection attempts. "“The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.”" My nslookup points correctly to autodiscover.mydomain.com and mail.mydomain.com. https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com fails across the board with everything having to do with autodiscover. When I check services on my new exchange server, I don't see any autodiscover anywhere (or Exchange autodiscover, Microsoft Exchange Autodiscover etc) Should I see an actual service? OWA works like a charm, but would like to be able to use Outlook to import old pst files for my clients.

The more I think about it, the more doubtful I can see this happening. From what I've read the Active Directory Migration Tool requires both servers to be connected over a network. I simply can't just export a file and import it.

Our domain controller has been around the block and we would like to make a new 2012 network (with the same name) to replace our current one that has a few issues that nobody has been able to fix over the years. I'm praying that there is a way to migrate the old users and computers information (with the matching ssid). Anyone know of a tool that will essentially allow me to grab this info, put it on a drive and import it to the new AD server? (I'm asking here before I've googled it. Google let's me make bad choices among many solutions, Edugeek gives good advice.)
