Afternoon all, Where's the best current place to get OEM Windows licences that can be EES upgraded? I have been quoted £66 ex VAT for W10 Home with some new PC's, but we must be able to do better than that I need 3, so not any large volume. Thanks James

Your routers will have all the routes for the different subnets, and as long as your firewall rules allow it, data will flow across subnets. We have 4 sites, 2 100MB lines, 2 20MB lines, spoke and wheel SonicWall VPN Site-to-Site between them all, 4 main subnets, plenty of DMZ subnets. We have CCTV, Doors, Printers etc all accessible from anywhere on the system. 1 big subnet across all, is a BIG can of worms!

No real BYOD here, but a lot of user owned deviced and college owned devices. Generic logins on ours, whatever on theirs. We offer a sanitised wifi for them. Obviously going forward we can't have the generic logins otherwise we would have problems following PREVENT, so I think I have to recommend bringing students in the AD infrastructure so they can log in as themselves Thanks for the answers, seems I was trying to solve a problem that would be solved by another decision further down the line!

Yeah, you raise a good point. We are going to have to have students logging in as themselves, but I am digging my nails into the floor boards! So...what you are saying is get them local, get them logging in and use normal infrastucture!

Yep, I want 2 infrastructures, 1 AD Sync to keep my staff synced with AD and O365, and another RADIUS to syn staff AND students from O365. Currently we sync by OU filtering only the staff. no students at all in AD. They automagically get added to O365 by script from our MIS. So basically I want a RADIUS server that will sync with O365 to allow me to use RADIUS & 802.1X on our wireless infrastructure, so staff and students will have to log in with their own credentials to use Wi-Fi. Am I making sense?

Afternoon all, Curently we use a standard student WIFI SSID with WPA-PSK, which was great in its day, but provides no auth other than someone knowing the pass key. Its coming and we will soon if not imminently need to pin point a particular students activity under the PREVENT or other documents/frameworks. All our students have a O365 account, as do Staff. And we have ADSync or whatever they are calling it now, but this only does staff. I dont really want to sync our student populace with our internal AD unless I have to. Is there any way to have a standalone radius server sync with O365 seperately from ADSync? or am I barking up a bad tree and should suck it up and get the students into AD proper? Thanks James

Hmm, so it let you type single in lower case as a new word, and it did nothing when you pressed F10 to boot, did you try the other listed boot key : ctrl + X? if nothing it must have a different way of getting into single mode, although most use the single command. Try pressing F2 and see if it gives you a command line you can tag single onto and press enter?

Once you are a prompt, type passwd root and set a new password. Reboot without single, use root and the new password to login

Type single after initramfs and hit F10 to boot

Still, its not really on to deny access completely, especially when the install is on-site. That's really quite petty in my view, remove or disable the paid modules by all means, but deny all access! Any bespoke coding should have been covered in the £3k a year bill.

Moodle has a non-opensource mode? That's a new one on me, but then again we have always "rolled our own"

Why did they disable Moodle? Surely Moodle is open source and under that agreement, someone can supply support, but not charge for the software?

Outlook on mobile is now much better, when did you last try it? I would push Outlook proper on them, as long as you have an O365 it is all free'ish anyway, even students and staff at home can have it.

What actually is the problem then? Just migrate mail, remove exchange from the o365 licences, and change the MX record to google. But you would be stuck with 2 logins, although if Google have some form of AD Sync, they could be the same login, but i've never used google for this, so dont know how well it integrates. then you just need an Html page pointing to each login, click here for mail, click here for everything else!

Go above SLT, SMT/Principal etc, whatever structure you have, build a case as to why this is a silly idea. It sounds like a convoluted can of worms, I would not do it. I would try and find a way to make OWA and calendaring more to their taste, or tell them it is one or the other, google or MS

SQL comes with it. A full standard copy, but you can only use it for SCCM. No ML's needed if server only, 1 standard per managed server, unless it hosts more than 2 VM's, in which case DC. James

We use DPM, with tape and disk on site, then we have a secondary off site over VPN that transfers over bit by bit, giving us very effective and cheap DR Never had a problem, that hasn't been caused by us in the first place!

The newer SCCM suite is 1 licence per managed node, in either standard or datacenter. With the only choice being amount of VM's, so if it is a host full of VM's go DC, if it a server that needs backing up with no VM's, go standard. and that is all. It was all simplified in the 2012 versions. I will add, I THINK

We use Moodle for everything, it is the heart of our student offering, blended learning and all that. We have had it in place for 6 or 7 years now, and it goes from strength to strength. We don't pay any support on it, and have a full time VLE technician. All looked after in house. 2 virtual servers, 1 CentOS 7 VM for live VLE and another CentOS 7 VM for a test version. They are rock solid and we provide it 24/7, next to no downtime, unless planned. We have it integrated with e-Stream as well, so we can use lesson capture with the encoder and have it nearly automatically publish straight to a carousel on the correct course. We also use it for internal exams. We were praised by Ofsted in our use of it.

I think USB passthrough came along in Hyper-v 2012R2, but not available in lower versions

Oh double dangit, they bought 16 out about a month after our 6 month initial support ran out. I've been toying with paying to upgrade to 16, but can't see any major features we would use

Thanks Alec, should have said I don't copy over the actual JVM, just the directory so I have the script on the pi I do make sure there is Java working on the pi first though. I did not know there is an image, would have saved me some time, but oh well. Can I have a copy?
