I have attached mine to a RGB LCD and am going to replace the clock in my truck Although it will do a bit more like interface with the ECU and give me a modern computer with MPG etc, and allow me to keep an eye on the V8, Having a 3.9 litre V8 means I need to keep an eye on all these measurements to keep fuel costs down! We use "Cinema's" and Samson products, very reasonable and do the job admirably, We have at least 2 dedicated conferencing suites at each centre, and a mobile TV at each one. All equipped with those as basic kit. has saved a shedload of meeting miles, enough to buy a very big shed anyway We can also use these for webinar/blasting, and now we have Planet eStream, they can be used for lecture capture too Happy days!

Afternoon, It's that fun time of year when we renew our EES! We licence the Desktop pack with Enterprise CAL suite, and know we need and have 3 System Center Datacenter licences to cover our DR Host and our 2-Host Hyper-V cluster. Do we need anything for our 'Normal' servers, Physical DC, Management server etc, when they only have Endpoint AV looked after by SCCM or management on them? Do we have to have a SC Standard licence for each of these, or only our Virtual Hosts? Seems silly to have to have a licence for a server to use Endpoint! No where do they actually define a server, and what makes it need a licence, unless I am missing it! Thanks James

I have a room of BT routers(well not a room, but a small stack!) meant for failed load balancing/aggregating services or different projects that never worked(BGMP, Aggregated broadband, etc). I wouldn't personally trust a BT "solution", but their vanilla BTNet lines are very good, if a little expensive these days compared to other LL services from TalkTalk etc. We have a BTNet 100MB that never goes down, but then again we have TT lines that are just as resilient(but then again, considering they also come in over BT fibre and use a BT NTE, its all the same anyway!!) We bought 4 second hand dl380 servers, installed the FreePBX distro on them, ordered 4 SIP trunks, endpoints and DDI ranges from our leased line provider, and then found a source of Cisco 7941 phones for circa £15 each. I reckon my outlay has been a few grand in hardware and my time, to get a fully integrated phone system over 4 sites, with each system being resilient if a site for some reason goes down. Really not hard to get a head around, even have our logo on the Cisco phones! We also pass in our old ISDN30 into one of them, BT were quite "surprised" when our bills suddenly dropped, as the system takes incoming on the ISDN but outgoing over SIP now just need to wait until the ISDN is out of contract, and then we will convert the number to SIP. As long as you know a little linux and some basic networking technologies(TFTP,VLANS, etc), it works really well.

Hi all, Any asterisk/freepbx gurus here? I'm good, but don't seem to be this good I am currently building a new server to replace our A11 box and have installed A13 with the FreePBX distro. I have set our trunk up and can get incoming, but on outgoing the TCPDUMP is showing a %40[trunkName] So it is sending INVITE sip:[rangNumber]%40[trunkName]@[iPofTrunk]:5060 SIP/2.0 (Ignore the [], just there for demarcation) I cant think what setting would cause this, I know %40 is @ but not sure where it is being told to inject this! Any light shed would be greatly appreciated Thanks James

we don't actually use it for the students, but our staff users now see all student users, and if a student was to self install lync, they would see all our staff! Not the best situation. Hasn't anyone come across this? Thanks James

Morning all, We have found ourselves running a shed load of websites these days, mix of NGINX, Apache and IIS. I want to set up some kind of monitoring on a geographically different server to keep an eye on these, ie things like uptime, downtime, simple resource monitoring. Can anyone recommend a simple way of doing this, either by distro or piece of software. Thanks James

Oh yes also an advantage of the comware HP range is that it can use compatible SFP's where a lot of the Procurve only used procurve ones Mix and match

I recommend the HP Comware switches, we were looking at the large 5400 vs the modular comware range, taking advice from Nick at SwitchShop. We went for 2 5800 switches and as they work as one(in an IRF) when connected with 10G fibre, we have extended our server room into our office with no degradation of performance(that we notice anyway), and as they stack, secondary cores and edges are easily connected.

Didn't the deal used to be, that if you wanted something to add mid agreement, you just use it and licence it at the next renewal? or have I just pulled that out of a tired mind!!

We have the Desktop Education Pack Enterprise CAL at circa £40 per FTE and we have 100 FTE. That means we get rights to install Office and Windows on any of our institution owned OEM licenced computers for the princely sum of £4k per annum, and as we have 700 odd devices, we get full coverage for around £5 per device plus all the CALS we need. The core cal would be even cheaper but we wanted the Lync enterprise licences. And best of all I don't have to licence count every year

Hi all, We are in test mode for our first lesson capture room, and I am trying to find a decent celing mounted mic we can put in the middle of the room to pick up chatter in the room(if needed). Our sound setup is a Shure SCM262 stereo mixer with a Sennheiser G3 wireless mic hooked into it. We have tried a Samson hockey puck we had around with a mini-XLR connection, but I think its an omni, and not much good! the idea will be that the lecturer can adjust the dials to bring in room noise or turn down their lapel to suit the situation. So, any idea what I can put into the ceiling for the all important student chatter? Thanks James

Morning all, We have recently purchased PlanetDV's eStream product, and have rolled it out for digital signage and dynamic screensavers so far, with the view to use it for lesson capture(amazing signage by the way). We also want to start digitizing old DVD's and VHS cassettes, which brings up a licencing issue. If we were dealing with broadcast and loads of recordings etc, it would be ERA, but at 90p to £2.50 a head for the license, this is way out of budget. Is there any other licencing that would cover us for internal use of purchased recordings? Thanks James
