Are you using an RD Gateway or pointing straight to your Web Access server? I found lots of problems when I went straight to the WA, then I installed a GW server and it all worked. But I think your problems are no NAT pointers in your firewall to tell the traffic where to go. You will also have problems if you have any other 443 web services on your public address.

Morning all, Is it possible to upgrade an existing 2012R2 installation(test VM, not production)with the evaluation ISO? I have tried and it tells me its the wrong edition, so won't do an in-place upgrade Do I have to wait till the proper release ISO? Thanks James

I can confirm it's no longer in the feature list, and not even available as a powershell "install-windowsfeature" option. Although it does say Desktop Experience when you select the OS in setup, so maybe its now baked in?

You should be able to just go to http:////admin/default.asp (shouldnt need default.asp) I wouldn't try using a fqdn until you have been in and told the site what it is, use the IP first.

hmm, just checked GitHub for the code, and can't see a reference to company.com in the source files. I know you can set the name of the site in the admin panel, that then sets it for the site, but it should be fine in initial setup and access to /admin. Sounds like it could be IIS

Long time since I installed Liberum, but check the config files, there must be a hard link to Big Ideas for Small Business that needs changing in the file. Or IIS is not set right, but I would go for the config file option. We moved to OSTicket after Liberum, as it isn't really maintained any more. James

The "Office 365 Education Plus for faculty" and "Office 365 Education Plus for Students" are only there/depend on the MS Office SKU, ie they are a perk because your organisation licences Office. If you didn't have it, you would only be entitled to the free O365. At least that's how it used to work, and think still does

Evening all, Weird one and linked to other posts I have made. We currently hold our staff in AD and our students in O365(cloud only). We use DirSync to sync our staff with AD. We are seriously considering moving the student accounts into AD, as most things these days have AD integration and we can keep tabs on the students online trails a lot easier. We still want to keep the students O365 services etc, so they will still have a presence in O365, but just be homed in AD like our staff and DirSync like them too. So...I am assuming this is not an easy thing to do, as most people are migrating the other way! Are there any known ways other than export import with CSV's etc. I would like the passwords to migrate with them. Any powershell that can achieve this, or are we up a certain brown creek with out any implements? Thanks James

Seems like an update has been issued to the Remote Desktop "Metro" app, it now has a home button, so I can quickly get back to my server list and switch on the fly. All is good in the world

Is it exported as a CSV that you are opening in Excel? If so, open a worksheet first and use the data import wizard and make sure you designate that field as text.

Rpi and 2 sensors here, one on the output from the chiller and one for internal temp, all synced to xively and pushover on my phone.

Thanks pcstru, the staff log in with AD, everything tracked on the SonicWall with GMS, the students log in with generic student AD account's one for each of our 4 centres. So currently we can track staff internet useage, and use CFS filters to block the usual, and the student we can track to generic login and computer, so the lecturers know who was sitting where and we can basically track it like that. I know that isn't enough, so captive portal is probably our way forward and then, as you say, make them login to the browser so we can track to actual student. We are changing our firewalls early next year on their 3 yearly cycle, so one of the prereq's will be ability to integrate and track students, which is where I am coming from with my original question. I think I am going to have to move the students into AD, so the firewall can use those credentials to track. Thanks James

I am well aware we are not tracking internet usage properly! This is why I am trying to find alternative ways of doing this that fits in with our current way of working. I would like to move away from a generic untrusted login, but tracking the browser is our option at the moment. Thanks for your input James

We have AD, but only for staff, the students are in a bespoke MIS system with an MSSQL backend. Currently the students log in with a generic student ID and access their VLE with the same backend as the MIS, everything is web based. This presents the problem in terms of safeguarding,PREVENT,etc, as the furthest we can track is the PC name and rely on the lecturer to know who was sitting where. We are a land based college and don't have any problem students hellbent on bad things(that we know of). Every student also gets issued with an O365 credential as well, but using that would involve Azure MFA and its subs. I envisage a system where the students use either their vle credentials or if someone has a bright idea, their O365 credentials, to auth to the wifi AND/OR I implement an "authwall"/portal on every web connection, that makes them login before they can use any web based services. Both options need some-kind of auth back end, and I want something zero admin, that syncs with our current back ends. The other option of course, is we sync back the O365 credentials into on-prem AD, but I don't know if that's possible with cloud only accounts. OR I move them all on-prem keeping their O365 link, and then use standard AD link to routers and wi-fi Lots of OR's, my head hurts!! When I started a mere 5 years ago, we had no wifi, and staff with laptops unplugged a computer and plugged their laptop in!! Now we have hundreds of netbooks and allow students to use their own devices, becoming a nightmare! Thanks James

Thanks Winner, did you try without the GRID cards? I am interested in the boost from RemoteFX over standard RDS. It's hard to test things like this, when a GRID card is 4 figures, and I don't have a spare chunky SSD based uberserver!

Afternoon all, My quest continues to find a decent VDI solution. Does anyone use plain RDS RDVH with RemoteFX enabled Grid cards? If so how does it perform over standard RDS or towards Citrix and VMWare? Do you get decent video and a comparative desktop to a normal desktop? I am thinking an SSD and dual GRID based RDS 2016 server will provide an excellent platform, but its not easy to get suppliers to lend you a server full of expensive gubbins to test on!! Ok in that case it makes BYOD using students own device prohibitive due to cost of purchasing a licence for each and every student, potentially £thousands, when only maybe a hundred will used at any one time. We will just have to look at this for shared devices, and for student's own devices they can install the O365 apps and use their own browser for the VLE and research. Thanks anyway, bit of a downer really, was hoping to lock our student wi-fi down to RDS only, so they are forced to use a sanitized desktop, putting a tick in our safeguarding policy. James

Thanks Steve, wasn't expecting any replies till tomorrow!! The thing I don't get is "They need to", that does make it sound like they should be purchasing it, or is it something we can purchase on our EES to cover them, and if so can we pool them or is it really every student who is going to BYOD needs one? Sorry for the questions, just trying to get my head around this, to see if its worth pitching an RDS environment.
