I think it's the oil roller?

We use a mixture of :)Windows PE and Imagex :)Ghost (9 - I think) depending what, exactly we're trying to acheive. Neither of them has the HDD size issue as all you need is the data size. Both work with USB drives, no problem

Dunno... I did wonder if something was afoot - haven't seen them round here for a while - their website's still there though and there's nothing about being taken over (or otherwise dissapearing) on there - I'd be interested to know if anyone can give a definitive answer of what their status is cos I like their stuff:)

Another Edusponser, SCL Online, make nice systems with a 5 year warranty - I'm using one now! Novatech do a good value "Ion" atom based system which is great for areas where they don't need mega performance.
-
It works on my laptop and I can carry that around does that count?...
-
Looks like Picasa is what I needed - It's scanning the shared areas now 8149 pictures found so far:eek: CHeers!

Insufficient evidence of safeguarding = OFSTED failure So if you don't mind, until they've been, and they'll be here any day now, I'll do what I can! Long term I've got a MOODLE solution in mind for shared areas - but they need cleaning up, now!
-
I sympathise, our school's in a rural location and the electricity comes here with lumps in it - I've had belkin surgecubes and old ups's protecting the new UPS's for a few years now:) Had a new feed from a different circuit put in last summer which seems to have tidied things up a bit, too - at least the server room gets 230v now rather than 180!
-
Apparantly so, these days! It's ok for staff to have access to everything, but not pupils as they can be taken home, used for bullying etc.
-
I'm not particularly worried about pictures on the web, the LEA filters (and our ISA server if necessary) take care of that so Smoothwall isn't really what I'm after and Securus looks a bit heavy handed for this task alone

As part of the current push on safeguarding, I need a gadget to detect photographs with faces (or at least people or lots of skintone) in them. Preferably free, but if needs must... Any suggestions on which software can do that? Our shared areas have literally thousands of photos on them - some vital to coursework in various subjects - but also many containing photos of pupils doing various things that we don't have photo consent for. As they're on shared areas, all the pupils, teachers, office staff etc etc have unrestricted access to them so at the moment it's not up to scratch so I need to do something pronto to move them, but not the photos needed for coursework, to a more secure area.

Not with Ruckus it aint! Standard access point, yes, gets flaky with more than 12-16 connections, but Ruckus APs are supposed to be fine with, like, 100 or so. Most I've had on one of ours so far is 38 and there was no perceivable performance drop whatsoever:D

Bump:o

Does anyone have the install file for Media Converter SA Edition V0.8 (or higher)? It's a great piece of kit, but I've only got the installer for 0.7 which doesn't do batch conversions and the downloads don't seem to be available anymore :( AFAIK it's free! Cheers

You haven't got cacheing enabled on the profile share have you? That's supposed to cause this kind of trouble... That's a bit of registry that's in the profile - no black magic, but, yes it can get corrupted sometimes

I live in Kendal, a largeish town (for this area anyway), and I get 512k at home and that's all my phone line will support. More than adequate for everthing I want to do on the web, apart from Iplayer which struggles a bit. Why anyone would need more to access "essential services" is beyond me:rolleyes: Before the days of Broadband in school, we had a 128k dual ISDN connection into here, feeding (then) about 60 PCs!

Does this site get through your filter?
BatchFile replied to SteveBentley's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Fine here, on CLEO -
I've put one of my access points on the wrong "map" and I can't get it to come off so I can put it on the right one:confused:. How the do you do it? please?

They'll be on XP pro and their use isn't particularly heavy - they should be fine... Significantly better than what they've got now anyway! It's these I'm looking at - I like the SCL stuff SCL Online - Sahara A - AMD Athlon LE 1640 2GB DDR2 250GB No ODD
-
I'd agree with all of the above, having always been an AMD man, but then I read this:Budget CPU for Enthusiasts: Intel Celeron E3300 Processor Review - X-bit labs, hence this thread!
-
I'm looking at two candidates for our art room PCs which are being replaced soonish. Price and spec are identical apart from processor; one has an Intel Celeron E3300, the other an AMD Athlon LE 1640. Which way would you jump? I've always been an AMD fan myself (I've still got my K5-75 at home )

PaperCut - Mure users than are licensed
BatchFile replied to BatchFile's topic in How do you do....it?
aaaaand it's talking to me again a link to the options | user/group sync page from the page that tells you you're over license and admin functions are restricted wouldn't hurt though, would it? Anyway, sorted now thanks -
After the last twenty minutes, I've found a piece of crapness in an unusual place, the usually brilliant PaperCut! It seems I've gone over our licenced number of users (haven't had cause to touch it in ages as it just works), quite how I don't know as we've 380ish students and 30 odd staff and a licence for 500 users. It must have picked up some that have left, or something. But As we're over licence, the only page it will let me get to on the admin console is the "about" page - it won't let me into the "groups" page to sort it out! G'AHHHHHH! Quick fix, anyone???
