That's it, thanks. Thought I'd done it. This was a test which now works so I'm going to migrate my other scopes off windows to smoothwall. I presume I need to create a new vlan for each scope? Is this the correct way to setup the vlans.. on a new NIC... I tried to add it to an existing one but it wasn't listed.

Hi, Wonder if someone could help. I've managed to setup a VLAN interface on my SW box and enabled DHCP fo that. I've added the subnet so the client is picking up the lease and can brose the interent.. success. Problem is its not filtering or showing up.. I can't see what I've missed.. or its misconfigured somewhere, So my switch has an IP-Helper pointing to the Smootwalls VLAN IP 192.168.66.1 My Smoothwall DHCP is giving out addresses with the default gateways of the other internal interface on the smoothwall 10.100.100.2 (I set this as thats whats on my windows DHCP). Does this sound right? Core authenitication is on 10.100.100.2 I did create a new VLAN interface. Hope someone can help with this limited information

We don't have any services on site (unless I discover somethign hidden somewhere) so it shoudl be straightforward. We have a MF license which was renews last month which we can migrate over the Hive. I have a scoping meeting with Sharp to see how this will work and its limitations. Our NET2 is virtualised so we have options.. just don't want it running on the SAN on its own. . I know the guy from NET2 was on the forum recently talking about sticking it in the cloud. We run Senso v1 already (inherited) which seems ok.. it does miss some devices off the monitoring on occassions which is worrying. I'm looking at moving to v2 but need to be 100% sure the clients migrate. I used to have PDQ at my last place which I loved but not sure how it would work in intune based devices.. and its soo much more expensive than when I first got in.

I've been having issues with my cluster so think I may look at cloudless as they aren't doing much. Veeam license runs out in 2 months as well. I have a paper cut server. Got a demo of hive soon. Net2, which looks like it can be stuck on a cloud VM. All devices are now intuned apart from the servers and a couple of DT machines. Isams and finance are cloud only. 90% of files have been uploaded to SharePoint. I did use a network folder for some recent exams but I've got a big qnap box when cream goes. I used a sophos box at my last school for DNS and DHCP for my vlans.. we have smoothwall so might still everything on that. (Might need a fail over box??) Be interested in how far people have got with this.

Securly vs Smoothwall cloud filter
Simcfc73 replied to xicor's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We use Cloud filter. It's fine, it syncs with our on premises box and does pretty much wwhat that does. I moved away from Smoothwall at my last place as the reporting was abysmal and it's not changed much. Seems to filter fine although its just a browser plugin on the client. -
Actually, it's the sync that's faulty between the DC's which is causing me massive headaches. DC2 is a 2019 core. I added a new DC but the sysvol didn't sync on that at all so theres fundamental issues.. I tried all the repairs I could not realised 1 and 2 were faulty. I miss my old network that I built.

Evening, I'm having a bit of a mare. For some reason the firewall keeps coming on even when I remove it from the group policy on some of my servers... Including new ones. When I went into GP to create a new one I cannot open th windows defender firewall tab snap in. Picture attached Anyone else seen this. Also, I can't remember if I ever saw this but when I look at status section in group policy management and do a tldetect now it shows the other DC's symbol as inaccessible... I connect to the other one and it says the same about this one. It's a inherited domain so I'm finding stuff all the time.

I'm having to learn all this as I've never used clusters before. It's a 2019 server and looking at the back there's 2 fibres in each with one of them linked together and the other 1s into the switch. I can't ping either of them but I've got 1 of the clusters on.. the other says no and not showing anything. They can't ping each other either. The second one that's got a failed cluster has a disabled nic which won't enable. Two of the hyperv clients are running but won't connect to the network. They use the same virtual switch. Not sure what the best way forward is without downtime. I really wanted to update to 2025 tbh while I've got this like it is. I was thinking of migrating everything to one nose and upgrading but they won't talk to each other.

Thanks for this. Just got in and my desktop rebooted and the toolbar won't come back on. Happy fridays

Evening, I was doing some upgrades on my network (inherited.. still finding weird stuff) and to cut a long story short I've had to roll back to where I was but it messed up my cluster. I managed to get 1 node up but the other 1 has stopped. Somehow the NIC's all went funny so the array NIC won't enable. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. I don't have the original config of how its setup annoyingly. I managed to get the DC up which isn't on the array. It's on Hyper-V but that virtual switch was in error also so had to remake one. I managed to get a NIC working with a IP but can't connect to the server. (I've had to remote into the iDrac to sort it) That make any sense?

Just revisiting this. Has anyone guys tinnitus from during in server rooms? I've had mild symptoms for years working in loud environments when I was young but it's got worse now I'm in my new server room.. didn't realise how bad it was till I got home and sit on the quiet. I've been around servers for decades but never had this. Earplugs now inserted.

I've done with Trek I'm afraid. I have tried the newer stuff but I think I prefer the memories of the old stuff. (God I feel old thinking that DS9 was old stuff) TBH I get more entertainment out of basement dwelling reviewers. Most are just negative about everything but they make me chuckle... and I listen to them in the car.

Did you get anywhere with this?

I called them and they were very nice (as you'd expect) and they were surprised it was sent to me. They said they will go back to Tesco Mobile and inform them of the mistake. If I don't hear anything then all is good. They did use snail mail which is very slow near me so I'm not out of the woods yet.

Evening, The school I worked for closed in the summer unfortunately.. I'd been there 20 years so got a decent payout and fell on my feet with a new job.. all good so far. Got home tonight and I've got a bill from a collection agency about my Tesco school mobile for £270 They had to do a credit check on a individual when you take out a business phone which I did then transferred it to th school after it had completed. I did hand the phone back and the number when it closed and this is the first I've heard of it. It does have the school name on the letter and my address. I presume they've never got a response from the school so they have gone to me. I'll contact the insolvency firm but am a bit worried I'm going to have to pay it.. don't want my credit rating getting messed up.

I'm going to be looking at putting Net2 in the cloud in the summer but would like a cloud solution also that's not just an azure blob. I had Unifi at the previous place but the lack of support and installers would steer me away from them at present. Shame as the ecosystem they have produced is amazing and I miss my controller (currently on Aruba)

We use InTune so I'll push it through there.
-
I did ask 6 days ago if there was predefined roles for the users.. still waiting for a response. I'm sure I'll get used to it but its not the most user friendly console. How did you guy update from v1 on the client?
-
We don't have the external filtering which i presume we haven't paid for. Our devices are 1:1 so the multiple users shouldn't be an issue. We have has some occasions where its not showing someone logged on even though they were which I was hoping would improve in v2.
-
Morning, I've read quite a few negatives about V2 on here.. have these settled down now or are they still occurring. I inherited V1 which is fine and I've started looking at migrating to v2.. .(they've really messed around with where the settings are). Can't find anything Trying to find the groups to assign the DSL to but can't see any setup. I deployed v2 to one machine, which I didn't reboot, which showed up instantly on the console but as 2 previously logged in users.. this sorted itself out after a reboot. The remote viewer seemed quicker but I was sat right next to it using the same AP. Their support seems a bit pants.. I need to update around 250 machines with the new version eventually.

Just to confirm they do not have any admin rights
-
I used to block everything when I had a flat network but the users are taking their devices home now. I want them to use Edge as that's what the Smoothwall cloud filter is installed on. The end users are able to install browsers even without admin privileges as some put it in their user profiles. None have admin rights, just standard users. I didn't want to AppLocker them to death like desktops as I don't mind them playing games at home if they want. It does look like they can install Roblox on their devices which we block with Senso in school time. Senso will still pick up anything they do outside of school anyway but the cloud filter is obviously a problem in they use other browsers.
-
Hi, Has anyone successfully blocked all other browsers apart from Edge? I've tried this on here but I can't find any of these settings All about Microsoft Intune | Blocking other browsers with policies for Microsoft Edge (be careful) We have AppLocker via Intune setup but they just keep installing different browsers so we block that and they find another.

When I spoke to Senso they said the scripts run as system so the ones I'd created to run as the user failed. I went proper old school and just made local GP logon scripts to add the correct home directory, copy the shortcuts to the desktop, add the room printer and copy the examswritepad settings depending on if they need SPAG or not. I did about 25 machines so didn't take long. I still use Senso to block everything and intune to lock the device down.
