All that money pouring straight into RM's pockets..

Our school has decided to change our domain name, as everyone is getting rather annoyed with typing in @alexandrapark.haringey.sch.uk We would like to move to a tidy .org.uk address, saving untold man hours typing in the current long domain. We are currently hosted by Synetrix. What would be the easiest way to transfer across to a new domain? I was thinking of registering the new domain with someone like hostpapa and setting up a forward to the old domain for the timebeing, then doing a proper migration in the summer. At least then we'd be able to get new business cards printed off right away. Any help / advice appreciated. Thanks.

Fronter is essentially middleware. In order to get it looking good and functioning well you need someone with web design experience who can engineer a good VLE using Fronter as a tool. It is a horrible, counter-intuitive piece of software, though.

We've not looked at staffmail and Londonmail tbh. In a previous school of mine we used the LGfL email service, which at the time was extremely basic webmail. Are Staffmail and Londonmail an improvement on this? We enjoy the flexibility of our own exchange server, but I fear it will carry a large cost to carry over into full service. The main issue is having the same sign-on for both the school (CC4 and SIMS) and LGfL systems.
-
Will the LGfL USO integrate with Active Directory? It won't be particularly useful if not tbh, particularly as we have an Exchange Server for email.

I've requested a demo of Openhive, to stay in the loop as it were. Even though our whole borough is committed to the London MLE (Fronter), which I find one of the most clunky, unintuitive pieces of software I've ever come across. I'm hoping there'll be nicer integration with SIMS, especially following Capita's acquisition of Synetrix.

So, is this Openhive VLE from Synetrix in effect now property of the all conquering Capita? Interesting development..

Websites down / seriously slow?
bonjour replied to Abaddon's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
Just like a standard migration, then. Ta. Spoke with a support guy at Synetrix yesterday, who was surprisingly keen for us not to move. They're going to move us across to another server - one without 400 other schools sitting on it. This morning our website is down completely (instead taking us to a Bing! results page), but pinging it resolves a different IP address so I'm guessing they're in the process of moving us across. If it's not back up by 10am, then we're gone. -

How easy is it to transfer away from (for e.g.) Synetrix? I've quite had enough of them now. Best to move to another host, preferably one that isn't hosting 400 other schools' websites. -
Absolute joke. Beginning the process of moving to a new host today. It's not like Synetrix are cheap. They charge us £120 a year for 1GB space and 2 MySQL databases.
-
How does a school sign up for this system? Is there a cost involved?
-
Synetrix sites still seem to be down.

This is so rubbish. I am really going to get it in the ear from the headteacher on Friday. Time to move away from Synetrix methinks... -
Staff being able to upload documents

We use this extension. Works pretty well, but not quite drag and drop. -
We currently use the Attachments for content articles extension. Is DocMan a worthy upgrade?

Great. Thanks for that mate. Unfortunately there don't appear to be any notes for the Apple session, although looking at the brief description there's no mention of CC4. Going on previous experience with RM, I have a feeling they will try to sting us for a new integration solution to CC4.

We currently have around 65 Macs at our school - a mixture of MacBooks an Mac Minis, as well as an uber sexay X-Serve for backing up all the Media projects. These are currently integrated into our CC3 network, but with CC4 looming (install scheduled for next summer), I'm starting to wonder whether RM are going to charge us for another solution in order to integrate the Macs with CC4. Has anyone here integrated their Macs into a CC4 network? If so, do you know if it requires the same product from RM as the integration into CC3? Thanks.

Yeah, ditched the edujoomla package in the end. Well, kind of assimilated it with the redevo aphelion template. Still work in progress, but we'll get there eventually. Having some IIS/PHP issues with Synetrix atm, with PHP often timing out. Website

How can I change the appearance of the main menu in Joomla? I've been playing around with the CSS, but seemingly to no effect. Our website can be found here. Currently having issues with our host, so apologies if you timeout. Basically, I would like to move the menu down to the next line, directly beneath the current logo, and expand the logo all the way to the right. I would also like to change the current colours of the menu to liven it up a bit. Could anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me how to do this? Cheers,

Anyone know a good Calendar Module?
bonjour replied to Little-Miss's topic in EduGeek Joomla 1.5 Package
We have shared calendars through Google Apps Education Edition, which are then made available through Joomla via the GCalendar component / modules. -

We use GCalendar, which works very nicely with all our calendars off Google Apps. Also has a nice 'upcoming events' module. -
Also, at the top of bulkYearMake.php, I get the line Notice: Undefined index: csvfile in /home/ileagorg/public_html/aps_mrbs/bulkYearMake.php on line 28 . Is this normal?
