Do you have WiFi-6 by any chance? We had WiFi-6 access points installed across-site over the summer, and I'm wondering if this is interfering with the MS WDAs. Thanks.

We're currently trialling a dozen of these with Surface Pros. We're experiencing an issue with hard crashes, particularly when using Powerpoint. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? We were thinking of going school-wide with a Surface Pro / WDA solution next summer, but currently it's hard to recommend due to poor reliability.

We're currently in the process of moving our Apple management from Profile Manager to Meraki MDM. Does anyone know if there's a way to add network shares to the dock? I've tried adding directory items with an smb path, but the dock items just appear as question marks. Any help / advice much appreciated.

Sorry for reviving an old thread... We're starting to experience this issue, with our WLAN having been installed under BSF 10 years ago. Unfortunately our WLAN controller is running software version 7.0.220.0, so we can't run the command/s to ignore the certificate and we're manually setting the time back in order to allow access points to join the WLAN controller. Is there any way to get hold of a more recent version of the software without a maintenance contract? Would save a bit of hassle in changing the date back and forth.

Would it be possible to provide more info. on the Oliver / Wonde issue? We've contacted both Softlink and Wonde, who blame each other. Softlink say they made no changes and Wonde say they would not make any changes without their clients requesting it. Thanks

Yup. We experienced the same thing with Softlink / Oliver and Wonde. Didn't realise it was due to the change in data extraction requirements. Will double check what data is being extracted for Softlink now..

Has anyone else noticed additional data Show My Homework is now requesting through Xporter on Demand? We've been asked for consent to provide the following information: Student Funding- Student additional funding indicators SEN - Access to student SEN provision information This is very sneaky by Show My Homework. Can anyone think of any reason why they should need to extract this valuable and sensitive data? Might be worthwhile verifying what Show My Homework is extracting from your MIS..

We're currently in the process of migrating away from Fronter. After playing around with exports and imports for a bit, I've decided to transfer the content (that's been requested) manually. It's better to adapt the content anyway, as it can be presented in a far nicer way in Moodle. We were lucky in that Fronter has not been used extensively, so I only have about 20 rooms of significance to transfer. It was interesting that Fronter's presence at BETT this year was practically zero, even at the Pearson stall.

Just wondering what sort of solutions you guys have come up with for this.. Our ICT department want to teach PHP at key stage 5. Obviously this requires some sort of webserver to interpret the PHP commands and output to HTML. The ICT department are not interested in online services such as compileonline.com We could either set up our own internally or go for a hosted service, with a subdomain and associated ftp account for each student taking the course (roughly 10). I'd be grateful for any thoughts alternative solutions members of Edugeek have come up with. Cheers.

These are destructive write-overs of all of the original information. Exception Message: The XML file is not valid followed immediately by another event: Exception Message: Some or all of the Membership data is not synchronised with the IMS ES service. Adjustments have been made to resynchronise the data on the next export. If errors persist, contact your system administrator. Have removed a student's email address which contained an invisible, illegal character! Have performed a database check to search for null entries in student/staff names and dates of birth. Have checked the internet and service in Sims services to see if they're running. Have run out of ideas!

An update to this. Our MSP claims to have received this response from Microsoft: “The nature of the NAACE agreement does mean that license keys cannot be shared with customers. As you have suggested, only xxx is able to access the keys and pre-install them on a customer’s devices. The reason for this is because under the NAACE agreement there is only 1 x ARF (Affiliated Registration Form) aligned to xxx rather than 1 x ARF per school. It would be inappropriate therefore to pass keys on or allow schools to access VLSC (Volume Licensing Service Centre) as they would have visibility of all the licensed schools under the xxx ARF rather than just being able to view and access their own. However, the customer does still own the licenses acquired under the agreement. This needs to be managed by xxx as there is no visibility of each school’s licensing on Microsoft systems as all NAACE licensing is consolidated under a single ARF. Part of the terms and conditions of the NAACE agreement are for the EdLAR (Educational Large Account Reseller) to maintain accurate records of the participating schools’ licensing. All installs/ reinstalls and key requirements must be carried out solely by xxx”

I don't want to name the company, suffice to say they are one of major providers of ICT to education. I'd also say the original licenses were hardly 'discounted'. They seemed the regular educational price.

Just to clarify, the 'management software' is to help manage the network - GPO's, desktops and such. It's not to manage the licenses themselves.

Just a quick query regarding Microsoft Select licensing. Our MSP, through which we have purchased all of our Microsoft licenses, has said that our Microsoft Select server and client licenses will only remain valid as long as we continue to use their management software. If we wish to remove their management software, then they say we have to have the reinstallation done by them in order for the licenses to remain valid. Any information or clarification on this would be much appreciated, as this would total a tidy sum. Cheers.

We're supposed to be moving to LGfL 2.0i soon, but as there are currently issues with the roll-out it seems we may be stuck on LGfL 1 for a while. From June or July, we will start incurring a cost for using the old (100Mb) connection from Synetrix. Does anyone know roughly how much the annual cost of 100Mb broadband from Synetrix is? Our school is currently using London MLE (Fronter) for our Learning platform and Joomla 1.5 for our website. Rather than migrating our website from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5, we're looking at the possibility of implementing a fully integrated Learning Platform, website and intranet. We're having a look at firefly.net, which seems really good. Does anyone on here have any experience of Firefly that they could share? Good / bad / other? Thanks.

We're interested in moving our current 9 physical servers to a virtualised environment on 2-3 blades. Eventually we also hope to virtualise all of our desktops (bar the Macs). We're looking at VMWare / VSphere as this appears to be the industry standard. Although there are many case studies available on the internet of companies that have reaped the benefits of virtualisation, there are few, if any, case studies from schools. It would be a great help if I could show my boss a school where virtual servers have been deployed successfully and the technologies used. Is there anyone on here, preferably around London, who would be willing to show us their virtual server setup? We would be exceedingly grateful. Thanks.
