You still have to leave some of it down to hoping the people you employ are profesional. There's nothing to stop someone bringing a dodgy magazine into work. It used to work with a chap (not in a school) who had 100s in his locker.

There's a GPO that lets you completly prevent log on if there's no network present.

Here's a robust response, why don't your teachers just leave it up to the students to decide what research source to use. Most of the students will use the internet, and the backward ones can find their own way. I don't want to sound like the daily mail, but every library gives internet access, and I PC costs less now then a decent TV cost 5 years ago.

Would an aceptable way forward be to suggest that the unfiltered proxy is only available to specified IP addresses?

Same problem here, also last week the connection between the hub school and the grid died. Luckily it was half term, but it did still mean no one could access terminal services. Do people know that the unfiltered proxy is being disconntinued anyway. You should be moving your staff over to SWGfL staff proxy (which requires users to authenticate when they need unfiltered access).

I'm very much doubting faulty nics, because it's occurring on 20 odd new machines. The termination is a nagging concern, most of these machines are on new cabling that was installed over the summer, I've done a bit of testing with a dumb tester. Anyone know if it's possible to hire network testing kit. Total length isn't going to be an issue, the runs arn't even 25 meters.

Didn't notice much difference on my home machine, still havn't taken the leap at work, mostly due to Sims not supporting it. Although I might sling it on the laptop, see if it dies (thought I've also got a copy of Vista Ultimate, which should kill it good).
