  1. Sir I fee your pain. I feel really bad that I sat across from 2 institutions that a company called Nviron (with our Dell account manager) brought in and I Demo'd and a month after they buy it... Dell shelve it. Even people in Dell were told it wasn't being shelved
  2. We have had it since 2009 when it was Provision Networks then quest bought it and were a Reference site for people to come see it in action. It's funny that you can still see Provision Netowks in the registry ha My hatred for Dell is infinite because of this - all because of their VMware/EmC love in. I saw the roadmap for the next few versions just before they shelved it and some of it looked impressive. Dell had a cheek to send me a renewal for support and I politely declined that one but once it was transferred to quest I paid up for a further year. That's the odd part. Dell shelved it but the new owners are sending out vWorkspace info from the returned quest branding. I'd bet money quest being out their own product using some of the original IP licensed from dell. It's too good to just fade away Moral of the story. I hate Dell
  3. VWorkspace was / is essentially a pretty front end that does it all for you ha
  4. Hi thanks for this. We have 3 hyper-v clusters at the college Production Cluster (for virtualised servers) And it's associated failover/replica cluster in our backup data centre - production is 2012R2 and the backup is now 2016. Both are made up of two groups of 6 x R710 poweredge servers with 4x10 gb ports (two for LAN access and two for SAN access) in each node The failover one now uses storage spaces (having been upgraded 2016) and over Xmas we will be flattening our production Cluster and moving that to server 2016 and storage spaces. Our current vWorkspace Cluster uses 6 x blades from two Dell C6220 Series servers with onboard local SSD storage ( server 2012 R2) especially with differencing disks this has always been their recommended setup. Two of these have been flattened and are now the basis for our RDS VDI and over the next 12 months I plan to move it all to RDS However the newly freed up iSCSI SSD SAN is setup to be a Cluster shared volume for the two new RDS VDI hosts so yeah we're on the same lines as what you wrote. Thanks for your reply much appreciated
  5. Cool, so I could put the MDT image onto the VM and then disjoin it - save installing a load of apps!
  6. Hope it's ok for me to jump into this and ask a question . We currently have a pretty big Dell vWorkspace install and with them shelving it Ina few years I'm playing with RDS 2016. It's just shy of 300 concurrent connection licenses split between 6 Hyper-V 2012 RD boxes - all on SSD storage I've killed 2 of my 6 hyper-hosts (2012 R2) and converted them to 2016. I've got RDWeb, Broker/Gateway and connected the two hyper-v hosts and have RDWeb page running; using this as a guide; http://blog.itvce.com/2015/06/30/deploying-windows-10-virtual-desktop-infrastructure-on-windows-server-2016-technical-preview/ My question is around the template. We use MDT to deploy our image (with office16 and Adobe Creative Cloud already in the master image but in vworkspace the gold image is domain joined is this not the case in RDS In theory could I MDT a "template" and disjoin it from the domain and then use that as a template. Also in vWorkspace the VDIs were basically using differencing disks to keep each VDI smaller - is this similar in a VDI setup for RDS - we are going to deploy both apps and a full VDi because the full VDI gets used heavily. And is it pretty straight forward to say create 30 VDIs automatically. And any decent links about for customising the RDWeb App page. We have VMM2016 if that helps at all - as I've seen some posts about using VMM with rds2016 Cheers
  7. Hi @Garacesh did do , on my phone and the code showed up blank. will login to a laptop now and fix.
  8. Here is ours (Win10 Enterprise 1511 - v5 Mandatory Profile) and our XML code is; Deployed it to a folder within C:\Windows\BSFC\ which also houses our background wallpaper, DefaultApps Customizations (which we binned and just forcibly replaced the default one) and a couple of icon shortcuts.
  9. Ha if you look over my monitors I have workbench which gets some stuff piled on it. But I had a load of paperwork on the desk, contracts and such so thought best to move them off the desk before I took the picture, just in case someone on here threw 2p in about Data Protection etc hahaah oh and I logged my phone out too and locked the screens Can't be too careful ;-) But I am a bit of a neat freak anyway
  10. Lord have mercy there nice. Way better than my 3 24" efforts [emoji106]
  11. +1 for MRBS. We have the Moodle intergeated version which works a treat
  12. Tell your boss it's the way forward and rude not to - throw this on your shopping list ; http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/monitors/monitoraccessories/monitormounts/tripplemounts/lcd-036-1.html it makes a world of difference. We made a push at the college to equip every office with dual monitors and it's massively reduced Paper/printing based on historic reporting. Started trialling 3 monitors with some senior staff - It however annoys me when we get a helpdesk job "my outlook monitor isn't working"....... first of all it's not exclusively for outlook but please login first and then it will do [emoji35]
  13. Desktop has family pictures on it but this is my desk
  14. Hi Gareth, Yeah, either adding the device or importing gives the same response. If I run the same KM-Embedded app on a Windows 2008 box it works. Ive asked Konica to get a me definitive answer, because they are saying its a Windows Update that has broke it, but I installed a Vanilla 2012 R2 box (using a 18month old ISO) and that didn't work. If I just add the printer as a direct printer in PCoutner it works (on 2012) it just means I cant deploy embedded to the devices - which defeats the object. frustrating to say the least.
  15. Another Stargate fan here, so much so all of our servers in the college were I work are named after Stargate [emoji2] Didn't go down well when I mentioned it on here hahaah However Hallowed are those who post on Edugeek [emoji108]🏽 You would of thought in two films and three series they would of at least resolved the furlings, but I suppose the films were more to tie off some of the story arc's. Wonder if the film reboot will spawn a new series if there is demand. /watching "The Devil You Know" now. [emoji108]🏽
  16. Sorry to bring this thread back up but you guys are obviously some sort of Wizards. Had our new PCounter install today (trying to retire out last 2008r2 server) and Konica are saying 2012r2 isn't supported. Try to connect to a printer and it comes up with this However the same machine can Ping/Web Access/ Print to these machines. Our 2008R2 box connects to them fine. Wiped the server and used an old 2012r2 ISO (to rule out any recent updates) and it still isn't happy.
  17. Yeah we took the other approach and replaced the OEMDefaultAppAssociations.xml on all devices. That worked an absolute charm! But I think that after near 10'years Mandatory profiles might of had their day here. Especially with MS baking App E-UV into Windows 10, so now a decision will be taken on what way we go
  18. Basically it's a GPO that pushes the file from a file share onto the machine (overwrites the file in system32) It worked on the 6 machines we pushed 1607 out to but it's annoyingly stupid having a v5 and v6 next to eachother that are identical!
  19. I'm in a similar boat to you. Deployed Win10 1511 with v5 mandatory profiles to just under 2000 devices and 200 VDIs, after the first week ( mainly "were is this, that" etc ). Feedback has been great and our finance office are the last users on Win7 and there kicking off to be moved to Win10 - but the "cloud based" finance software relies so much on Java on the endpoint and a specific version it's being left until the end of next week. Our major issues and workarounds 1. Default Apps The XML doesn't import unless your an admin so we hit it with a hammer and rolled out a new OemDefaultAppAssociations file to each machine which overwrites the defaults. Main changes we/users wanted Email to outlook 2016 Web browser to IE11 PDFs to Acrobat DC Pro 2. Printers We have always used Kix for our login processing and it worked a dream. What we have now is a post script that runs from the startup folder to map the printer - rather than change GPO to force the Login Script to run before anything else, becuse if MS's stupid login scripts can take up to 5 mins to run. This Maintains a quick login and the printers are mapped straight after login. 3. Broke Start Menu on re-login Seems limited for us because we don't have users logging off then back onto the same machine before a reboot, but to counter this we have a "log off this Device" shortcut on the desktop/startmenu that reboots the computer. Works very well and as the machines are 90% SSD it's not a big gap. Plus it's not like as soon as someone logs off we have someone on their shoulder to login - even in our 150PC digital learning space ( glorified library ). Our start menu is deployed via an XML that is populated from a local folder on the machine. The only outstanding issues is that dispite disabling WUDO we still seem to get bandwidth spikes. We are now looking at creating a new Anniversary update build and enabling App U-EV. I'm almost at the point we're after 10 years I'm seriously considering ditching Mantatory profiles. Roaming profiles were a nightmare when we tested them, but with them baking U-EV into the OS that's were they seem to want to push you, so I now need to figure out the best "profile" strategy, that maintains a quick and consistent login as our mandatory profile from XP,7 and now 10 has all hovered around 9 seconds max. Want to look at OneDrive as a drive mapping and supposedly the iamcloud offering doesn't work with mandatory profiles.
  20. There is an iMessage group of some affected colleges which is quite funny to be part of....
  21. Yep were on that list Absolute nightmare, even worse when the supplier (Vodafone) go to 3 locations It's unfortunate but true that since JISC/Janet has moved over to Vodafone from Virgin Media we are having weekly issues. So now we're investigating paying for our own 3rd party backup line with..... Virgin Media which was rock solid before our move to Vodafone. Our last resort plan of plugging a 4G sim into our Sophos UTM worked albeit slowly when we have newly 2000 devices trying to connect [emoji108]🏽 However JISC have been fantastic giving regular phone updates, I suppose their at the mercy of the telco :-(
  22. You could just deploy the change to that room if that room is in its own OU?
  23. We tried this and it didn't work in our environment unless the user is either an admin or doesn't have a mandatory profile. (Win10 1511) So we went at it with a hammer and deployed a new OemDefaultAppassociation.xml to all the machines via GPO and that fixed it :-)
  24. @manick you sir are most welcome
  25. Touch wood that thanks to your input our just over 2,000 deployment of 1511 Enterprise has gone relatively smooth and survived two big Enrollment days and staff have been using it all week students have been logging into our Remote Access VDIs since 1st July. The only outstanding issue I've got a week to fix is that.... The DefaultAppAssociation file from GPO refuses to run on the machines so edge is still default browser and it's took over PDFs from Acrobat DC - so spent a bit of time this afternoon during enrollment to use "Whatschanged" then I'll apply the changes into the Man Profiles. Or import into GPO. We still have that issue of if someone logs off sometimes it doesn't clean the profile , now in the wild it looks like 40% of the time it doesn't do it cleanly.... So we have cheated / countered this by placing a "log off this PC" shortcut on the start menu and desktop that actually reboots the PC. (shutdown -r -t 1) And as nearly all of our estate is SSD its not that different to just logging out. More than happy for you to have a nose at our GPOs mate it's the least I could do. Looking at about consistent 8 second logins on i3's with SSD, about 17 seconds with non SSDs - and most of that is the silly "preparing Windows" and possibly Sophos being a pain and insisting on checking for updates on login. I think I have a KB from them about stopping It from doing that.
