  1. I'm debating trying to replicate our college mandatory profile as much as possible and redirect the outlook data files to a network share My absolute worst case scenario is to throw an exchange server onsite - but it seems like a total backwards step
  2. Fruit baskets / alcohol deliveries for you two pillars of this here community I think I'll rid the school of local profiles too
  3. If they roam to a different device they have to re-run the outlook first time wizard and wait for their mailbox to sync
  4. Hi All Long story but we have taken over a local high school and their network needs a lot of work (it's a child domain in the previous academy trusts Forest) and they have local profiles (nothing is redirected) Anyway They have office365 now and it's a painful experience if you move to a different device...... I'm recreating their AD from scratch so wondering how people allow staff Full Outlook 2010 with Office365 and get a near seamless experience when they move to a Different device At the college I work in we have an onsite exchange 2013 box with mandatory profiles, and outlook is set via a PRF. It's seamless. I don't really want to take a backwards step and put a local exchange box in Anyone got outlook 2010 + office365 working with roaming profiles ? I'll also be putting in an ADFS + DirSync box as I'll be giving the students email addresses but they will be using OWA. Thanks guys
  5. Not a school, but a Sixth Form College. We have it running on our Win7 mandatory profiles. It hates Sophos haha. Basically we had to up the maximum time between updates because if Sophos updated whilst someone was in gmetrix you got a windows installer error It runs pretty smoothly here , feel free to drop me an email and I'll dig out my notes The only issue we have at present is outlook - because we use a PRF file for our exchange box and it has a little moan it can't create a pst - but we have nearly fixed that It's used quite a lot here
  6. Our network uses Stargate references
  7. The IT estate from the former Caterham F1 team are being auctioned off... The assets of Caterham F1 Race Team
  8. Sorry, that price is each.
  9. Thanks Michael I'll go and have a dig about
  10. Or unless I create a brand new domain (with new FSMO roles) setup a trust relationship and migrate the users etc.
  11. Lifted from the doc. The school's directory services will be provided by two Windows server 2008R2 domain controllers, one of these will be hosted on a physical server in the school's blade enclosure while the other will be a virtual machine. The school will be implemented as a child domain of the OTHER forest root. Its fully qualified domain name will be: school.OTHERORG.internal
  12. As I finished typing this I just got the detailed design document from when the AD infrastructure was implemented. Your right! Infrastructure Master, RID master and PDC emulator are all on the local DC's With Schema Master and Domain Naming Master set as "Forest Level Role"
  13. Hi At present a local school near us has their active directory domain as a child domain within a larger forest (i.e. school.forrest.domain) and it now needs to go on its own. And we have been roped in to help. I'm debating either starting from scratch , with the worst case everyone has to have a new password - adding the machines to the new domain won't actually be that bad compared to new passwords. Hahahaha Or using the Microsoft ADMT and migrate to a new 2012r2 domain I'm about ready to setup , couple of new physical servers and a separate new hyper-v cluster. Has anyone used the ADMT or something different like the Dell Migration Manager Cheers The current domain is on 2008R2
  14. We have a bit of code that runs on login and puts a text file in a file share : we approach this for two reasons 1. Students can't login to more than one workstation at at time (te file is deleted on logout) 2. We can see if they are logged in We also log their login activity to a SQL database as part of the same process so we can report if ever asked "was johnny logged in as he didn't turn up for lesson " Happy to share the code if you like
  15. All of the newer switches (GSM7352S and newer) will shortly be getting the new overhauled GUI - there beta testing it now on selected models - I'll screenshot our M6100 Chasis tomorrow, which comes with the new GUI as standard but it's very intuitive and lightning quick. The colour scheme /layout looks similar to this nas http://cdn2.itpro.co.uk/sites/itpro/files/styles/gallery_wide/public/netgear_2.png?itok=Jwds3lSS
  16. We are a full Netgear campus; a Sixth Form College, so not directly similar but shows it can scale. We have their new chasis M6100 as our core, I wrote a post about our setup here http://www.edugeek.net/showpost.php?p=1293051
  17. Hi Sean I've emailed our software developer for the code and I'll up it on edugeek just in case it's relevant to anyone else. He's on leave until Friday though. It was built in .NET which allows some bits of customisation to ensure its forced to stay open etc. As for the login script it first of all checks for the existence of M:\aupmarker.txt and if it doesn't exist it runs \\%server%\\LoginHacks$\AUP\bsfc_aup.exe We run it for the first two weeks of the academic year to make sure we catch all the students. Then after that we do a comparison against a full student list and then add these students into an ADGroup 'NonAUPCompliance' and then we monitor that. We do get the odd student who point blank refuses to sign it by letting the timer go down then logging back in, but we counter this by after the initial 2 weeks drop it from 30 minutes to 5. I've once had our AUP challenged by a parent (who oddly was/is an IT tech as I have met her before) saying their daughter is there to learn and as such shouldn't have to agree to anything That was a short phone call.
  18. Not strictly limited to Apple, but we have a fair few of these - which two staff use with an iPad and converter https://nyrius.com/product/ARIES_Prime_Wireless_HDMI_Transmitter_Receiver_System_for_HD_1080p_3D_Video_Streaming_Laptops_PC_Mac_NPCS549.eng-5.html
  19. Hi, we have a home brew solution. We have an electronic copy of our Acceptable Use Policy that run's on Login - an old version is here If the user accepts the Acceptable Use Policy a text file is created on their home area (m:\aupmarker.dat) and their acceptance is logged to a SQL database. Upon the next and subsequent logins we have configured the login script to first check for the existence of 'M:\aupmarker.dat' and if it exists DONT run the Acceptable Use Policy App - if the marker file is not found, it will run the Acceptable Use Policy. The AUP App runs ontop of all other windows until you pick a choice - it times down from 30 minutes and if you haven’t made a choice by then, it shuts the computer down. We are probably going to reduce this to 5 minutes. If the user deny's the Acceptable Use Policy, then the machine is logged off and shut down .
  20. Win 10 Enterprise Build 9926 & 10041 We have all these working on our build; 2D Design V2 (Version 2.00) Adobe Creative Suite CS4 - Design Suite Premium it does however complain on installation about not being able to install the flash player bundled with it - because its ancient! Adobe After Effects CS2 Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite 2012/2013 (2012 was on an x32 build) Autograph 3 (Version 3.11) GameMaker 8.1.142 Needed .Net2.5 and 3 installing to be able to use the licensestamper application Google Chrome (41.0.2272.101 - Enterprise MSI Install) Mediator 9 (Build 152) Promethean ActiveInspire V1 & V2 Solidworks 2014 & 2015 Sony Vegas Movie Studio (Version 11.0.322) We also have ProDesktop 8.0 (SP2) installed, and whilst it installs and opens, it seems a bit hit and miss, so I have passed it over to one of my technicians who knows how to use it.
  21. Our broker and gateway are both virtual boxes running 2012 r2 By having them virtualised I got away with the need for two brokers ;-)
  22. https://desktop.bsfc.ac.uk :-) - logins from home are about 20 seconds. I'd be more than willing to help you move to 8.5 mate. The only pre-requisite for 8.5 - (If you want to use the HTML5 connector ) is that both your broker and gateway need to be server 2012 and above. So for me I built a new broker and gateway and then just moved the VDIs. 100% if you want to upgrade to 8.5 ill help you.
  23. @jamin100 For us it's been an ongoing quest (no pun intended) to tweak our VDI setup as the years go on. Our gold image is highly tweaked using a variety of methods; mainly the VWorkspace Desktop Optimizer ( http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/virtualization/vworkspace/b/vworkspace-blog/archive/2011/09/08/the-free-quest-vworkspace-desktop-optimizer ) and reading other manuals on how to tweak gold images for VDI deployments - Citrix have a great guide on tweaking VDIs And a lot of stuff ripped out using msconfig. Another thing, we dispense with the traditional login script on our VDIs & instead we add a batch file to the "startup" folder in the start menu that in effect runs all the login script stuff (but as it runs after the login) it cuts the login time down. Mapping printers, shared drives etc all done as soon as they login - by the time they scroll up to my computer it's already finished. They run seperate GPOs compared to the rest of our infrastructure. Specific GPO settings tailored to VDIs. When we moved to vWorkspace 8.5 saw logins drop by about a second - by enabling RDP8 in the VDI - it's fine if the end user doesn't use RDP8 but if they do, you get a performance boost. We also found that by NOT having the SSDs that vworkspace uses in any sort of raid setup also helped - there's no need as far as I'm concerned. I suppose it helps that our infrastructure is full 10gb and our mandatory profiles are hosted on servers that have SSDs
