  1. Er we used to give out a printed guide but it's being transitioned to our departments web site - I can send you it if you like Here is our bit on Saving your work http://itservices.bsfc.ac.uk/software/savingyourwork
  2. We had a similar problem on about 10 laptops and as a precaution we had 50 swapped out over the summer - the actual motherboard manufacturer ( they were over from China investigating it at Stone) and our usual stone engineer. Took the two chinese engineers a day to swap 50 motherboards out, which was impressive. Speaking to them they had a faulty batch of boards that when its run through the solder the chip near the charging port didn't get fully soldered. And it would just randomly refuse to charge. We buy all our laptops from stone and they are student proof ;-)
  3. We had a similar issue with Win7 and Optiplex755 ... Our first workaround was to unplug them and put it in a different USB port and after few minutes it worked - After it had took the time to re detect the hardware. The long term solution was to turn off checking windows updates for the drivers for the keyboard and mouse.
  4. With my tinfoil hat on, has anyone read the NSA document on deploying Chrome in an Enterprise Environment.... https://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/app/deploying_and_securing_google_chrome_in_a_windows_enterprise.pdf

  8. +1 for Stone We ordered over 200 this summer - all fully imaged and delivered on a pallet so a lot let fiddling with boxes. We moved from Dell over 3 years ago and haven't looked back.
  9. +1 for AdInfinitum Defiantly works with 2012 R2 as I've just created all our new students with it. I use it for a lot of other little bits outside of creating the users.
  10. +1 for game maker We have it running under restricted logins by giving the students Full control over the regkey that game maker needs. We have the following set to EVERYONE via Group Policy File System %AllUsersProfile%\GameMaker8.1 Registry MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Game Maker
  11. Not a school, but a Sixth Form. Have been running BYOD since 2009.... ask Darren Dodd a fellow stone employee

  13. We have just replaced two Microsoft TMG boxes with two Sophos UTM 625's. At the same time removing Sophos Puremessage off our mail server and using the AV/AS feature on the UTM.

  16. Caffrey I've got a few older (about a dozen) netgear switches you can have if you want to arrange postage/collection. 24/48 port variants with gigabit SFP uplink , might have a few PoE ones too. I'll double check what we have. If you want to have a look at our LAN and VLAN setup (we have 13 VLAN's) via our layer3 core your more than welcome to a teamviewer session. Our current core comprises of 6 x GSM7353S/M5300 stacked which I am replacing over the weekend with 2 x XSM7224S (m7300) With 2 XsM7224 (M7100) The m7100 have a 4 x 10gb MLAG (Multi Chasis Link Aggregation) between the two switches then each switch has 2 x 10gb LAG's into the same LAG on the M5300 That will enable me to up all our edge switches (GS752TXS) from 10gb to 20gb Just setting up replication between two netgear readydata san's which are great!!
  17. You sir are correct
  18. Never heard that one .... *facepalm* Lol ;-)
  19. Agreed Most people don't go into a bar/club and walk out because the DJ is on a laptop.., Song selection is the key.
  20. Ex-DJ , used to play house / piano's / etc for about 8 years. I came out of retirement recently for a one off gig for a charity. Uploaded the two mixes from the event here http://m.mixcloud.com/johnszkudlapski3/
  21. Have you set inter-VLAN routing up? Here are my notes for setting up ours ( GSM7352Sv200 ) Login to the switch. Type “enable” Type “vlan database” Type “vlan {VID}” so for example “vlan 27” if the vlan number is 27 Type “vlan routing {VID}” so for example to enable vlan routing for vlan 27 “vlan routing 27” …the below example then is to enable vlan routing for vlan27 and 26 Enable Vlan database Vlan 27 Vlan routing 27 Vlan 26 Vlan routing 26 Exit Save Let me know if I can help, maybe on a teamviewer session or something.
  22. I have, must of missed that in my original post Ruckus basically just sent back the howto on creating a link to a radius box I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced it....
  23. We are configuring our Ruckus ZoneDirector (9.7.0.0 build 220) to work with the JANET eduroam service using Microsoft Server 2008 R2 NPS as the RADIUS authentication server. We have come across an issue with 802.1x authentication sessions for users on our site being proxied through eduroam to their “home” site. We are finding users who’s home service relies on Microsoft NPS are unable to authenticate due to the remote server discarding the messages . Users with a home RADIUS server based on FreeRADIUS work fine as do our own local users. Investigation has revealed the ZoneDirector is sending a couple of Ruckus VSA attributes in its request, we believe this may be causing the remote system to discard the RADIUS requests rather than simply ignore them. Amongst these attributes is the Ruckus VSA for the WISPr-Location-Name which is odd as the WISPr service is disabled on the WLAN configuration. Has anyone setup Eduroam using Microsoft NPS and a Ruckus controller Tried to ask Ruckus directly, but our reseller said we have to go via them and cant ask Ruckus directly........ Cheers John Paul
  24. Same version as you, probably has about 80k in size Off the top of my head other apps are Solidworks Autodesk Entertainment Creation Visual Studio Delphi 2010 Just checked firefox uses 1.8mb on it's own.
  25. Yeah, Adobe CS suite kicks off if there isn't bits in it, then we have some other bits of software but the main culprit is Matchware Mediator - that takes up 2mb Visual Studio also took a few mb until we figured out if you create a couple of registry keys it doesn't do the 'starting for the first time' delay
