I think we had this discussion a few posts back about me misunderstanding the whole point of 'Hard Mode'! Once in that mode you have to use the 'known' letters ('Any revealed hints must be used in subsequent guesses').

Seems I got reasonably lucky in the end... No skill involved as I could just have easily guessed the wrong starting letter for the next 4 goes at least (and nothing to help me work out which one it could have been)...

Snowpiercer fell by the wayside for me at least after season 1, it just seemed that for me it didn't really have anywhere to go (not just because they are stuck on a train). I seem to remember enjoying the film but stretching it to a series feels too much. I am starting to feel the same way about The Witcher and I can feel a theme in my watching habits, after a while I just want something different to happen. I get the characters evolving in the plot needs to be fleshed out, but feel like a lot of the series is pretty much chased by monster, kill monster (regardless of the back story and reasons why). Feeling a little bit like this about Walking Dead, the seasons are told slightly differently with slightly different bad guys and situations of (mostly self-induced) jeopardy but under all the different guises it just feels like the same story line.

I enjoyed Due South (from what I can remember of it now), not like 'OMG that was amazing', but watchable if nothing else was on... in the last few years (maybe longer) or so for me anyway, Netflix and Prime have at least opened my eyes to a world of (mainly US) television shows as we previously didn't have have any way to watch SKY and I can never be bothered to scroll down through the Virgin channels just to try something I don't really know anything about. Favourite TV shows/films (or at least watchable by both the OH and myself) that I can remember off the top of my head but might not necessarily be the big hitters: Orphan Black Haven Locke & Key Jupiter's Legacy The Boys Lost In Space Travellers Limitless (TV series) Glitch Umbrella Academy The OA Russian Doll (TV series on Netflix) What Happened To Monday (Film, but thought it could easily have been a series) 12 Monkeys (TV Series) Legion The Good Place Probably a few I've forgotten and plenty of others that we lost interest in after a few episodes or that appealed to one of us and not the other... I'm more 'Love Death + Robots, Space Force, Cowboy BeBop' and the OH is more 'You, The Sinner and Justified'... (so the shows above seem to mostly be a good compromise). We also watched Monster Hunter over the weekend and my word that is a waste of 1h 44m even for someone who likes sc-fi and Milla Jovovich... I didn't hear about that... what were his objections...? That it wasn't a very good portrayal of the accent? That he couldn't understand what they were saying? Or that it was based in Liverpool at all...? Arcane? I haven't enjoyed Boba Fett, too similar to the Mandalorian really for me, which didn't wow me either (ones for the die-hard fans imho).

Unfortunately I find myself in the same predicament today... annoyingly I have somehow managed to get the first letter wrong and all the other 4 letters correct on my first go (bit of a fluke, but not outside the realms of possibility)! Now, I have 5 guesses left and (by my estimation) have 5 common words that could possibly be made by changing the first letter... so I could use up all my guesses for one letter...

Wasn't it something to do with which file it was looking at (.dat ring a bell?) as the last used date and there are things in Windows 10 that modify this (also anti-virus etc.)?

I know a few anti-vaxxers who (back in the day) have put various things in their body and I'm sure they didn't know the actual contents of most of them, including other drugs that were meant for horses...

What I meant (and I thought I made it clear) was that I think you'll find 'anti-vaxxers' include various types of people from all walks of life, races, creeds, religions, and I believe they will be found in people with a range of 'political views' as well... to say that a certain person is a 'XXXX political supporter' and this therefore automatically makes them an anti-vaxxer is incorrect. Therefore, no I do not believe being 'anti-vax' is a purely political thing... I think my analogy is sound (for the time it was written, not some proposed future) and at least as good as the analogy it was arguing against (which was the point). You refer to the legislation that was introduced for the 'greater good' (not smoking in a pub helps prevent disease from secondary inhalation), but we were talking about the individual who refuses a vaccine for themselves and therefore the smoker who refuses to give up (not the secondary causes of spreading the infection being likened to the non-smoker).

Well, not really sure where to post this... We have 2 fairly old servers and zero budget to replace them, but as 2012R2 nears EOL next year (Oct 10, 2023?), I'm not sure what to do? Anyway, current spec is pretty low (and old, did I mention that?), but they have always been rock solid (apart from a couple of disk failures) and as we are a small Primary they haven't exactly seen a lot of action... What I can see as a benefit (as many point out) is VMs for backup in case of disaster recovery from HW failure (getting more likely with each passing year) or Virus/Malware infection, so maybe worth it just for that.

The counter-counter argument being that those individuals also actively refused to get treatment for their poor driving/nicotine addiction/alcoholism...? Anyway, I find it strange that anti-vaccination is seen as a political thing... although I am aware that certain political leaders have been quite vocal and that seems to automatically tar all of that political persuasion with the same brush, I see it as less political given what we know about the demographics that have the greatest 'vaccine hesitancy'. But from far-left to far-right and from new-age hippy (or even those who say 'I'm not putting anything like that in my body') to anti-government conspiracy theorists (and those that believe Bill Gates put a microchip in the vaccine), all 'political sides' have their scale of pro and anti. And here's the thing, from my very humble point of view... in their purely selfish narrative and with their lack of empathy, they actually see no real reason to get the vaccine 'for themselves'... and there's the issue. The individual mentioned above (and I have no idea who he is) would in an ideal (instant Karma/Darwinesque) world, have the disease so badly he would see the error of his ways (not that I particularly wish ill on him) - I have pondered the viability of an alternative 'therapy' for these people - Covid deniers and anit-vaxxers to do a few 12+ hour shifts on a Covid ward (a bit like shooting the Flat-Earth theory conspiracists into space). However, that is not going to work as we can see from the amount of NHS professionals who are refusing to be vaccinated, if they don't believe something that is quite plainly obvious (people dying in front of them) there is little possibility of convincing the anti-vaxxers any other way... However, that individual may (as the vast majority of the population do) have mild symptoms and get over it in less than a week, so why all the fuss? This is a rhetoric I have heard from many of his ilk and will only further reinforce his point of view. But, this really does miss the actual main point of vaccination for those who are unlikely to get very ill or die (including children), which is to try and limit the spread of the disease by those who do contract it to other more vulnerable people. The death rates on the Gov.uk website for the 70+ age range shows a very steep curve (I haven't seen a breakdown of other younger but still vulnerable groups) but of course this would be expected with pretty much any disease that has life limiting potential (such as influenza). One day this may (as we may be seeing with the Omicron variant) become endemic, mutate into some less serious disease and lead to less need for healthy adults to be vaccinated, but for now I do not believe this is the case. Science doesn't yet know (and may never know), why someone gets Covid and is asymptomatic (while others get very ill indeed) which is another thing that plays in to the hands of those that would deny it is any worse than some other diseases. In fact I have seen various figures ("lies, damned lies, and statistics") and although I know it is virtually impossible to accurately quantify for many reasons to get a true figure, a popular estimate of global deaths so far is something in the region of less than 0.1% and that is also something else they rely on to make their case.

I've often wondered something along the same lines... I've always presumed that as an I.T technician or Network Manager working for a school under an specific LEA we would all (under the same LEA) be paid the same (or on a scale within a given grade dependant on how long you've been employed/experience). I'm not certain that in that case a school can suddenly give extra remuneration for a given post (above the pay grade for a given defined position). As for the OP in that case, if they advertise a job within a certain grade (say Grade X, £20,000 - £25,000), you should be able to negotiate 'depending on experience'.

We run 1809 LTSC site-wide (apart from a few LTSB that I just can't get back in to upgrade)... We've had no issues with the January CU - KB5009557 update for clients (printing wise I have just about every workaround going so that possibly helps with that). For the servers we run 2012R2 and I thought I was immensely clever having a 2012R2 VM on my work PC (actually I've got LTSC and LTSB clients too) and tested it did the update and came back up and both the clients could print. Safe in the knowledge that it was working, I rolled it out... Next day came in to DCs rebooting, reports of VMs not starting up (from EDUGEEK) and researching on the internet found that ReFS was killed (not that I use it)... How was I to know that I needed my Test Server VM to have a VM, be a DC and be using ReFS to fully test it! Best bet (and my new strategy) is to wait a good week or so after the update release and ask/search on here (there's plenty of guinea pigs)...

KB5007206 is the November CU? Are they declined and removed by a WSUS script? As far as I can see KB5008602 was an out of band update not pushed through WSUS (see 'Release Channel' near the bottom of the info in the centre panel)... I'm taking issue with the settings, in particular 'Hard Mode'... I should imagine it's very common, there have been lots of calls for workers to get more in the way of support to help them isolate. There are vast amounts of workers who live 'hand to mouth' or on the 'breadline' and cannot afford to live on even a few pounds less. There are always those who cannot afford to be 'off sick' and struggle in to work with whatever aches and pains (or infectious diseases) they have. Whether you agree with that or not, you can't deny that not everyone has the luxury of getting decent sick-pay from their employer (zero hours, gig economy, etc.) or live any kind of life that can withstand living on SSP even for a week or two. I'm sure there are lots of reasons people become infected and possibly lots of incidents where it might almost be unavoidable (for those that cannot just sit in their house and see nobody else for over 2 years), but I have to say, I admit looking at the peak infections and wondering... 'what exactly are those 150,000 people A DAY doing...?' Not wanting to derail the thread too far off-topic, but I think the French Health Chief is on thin ice... where will that lead? Car accident.. your fault? No healthcare! Lung cancer... smoker? No healthcare! Liver disease... like a tipple? No healthcare!

Thing is, I know it sounds disgusting... but we all have bacteria on our skin and what is growing there 'might' not be harmful. Also, bear in mind that if that is a 'personal' keyboard in someone's office at their desk and they are the only person likely to use it, they will only be touching bacteria they already have on their hands. Lane splitting, white-lining, stripe-riding or filtering/filtering forward... On my journey to work I regularly see a guy on a moped. There is usually quite a queue of traffic at the lights and he rides up past us all (sometimes on the left sometimes on the right or weaves in and out depending on where the gaps are) and positions himself in the cyclist's only (?) box in front of the traffic. The thing is this can very confusing for drivers in a vehicle (especially one with blind spots). It sometimes can appear as if they come out of nowhere and unless you are swivelling your head 360 degrees at all times, someone who wasn't there when you looked (or was on one side further behind you) suddenly zooms past you on the other side! The trouble is, this is quite near the school and cars often peel out to get across the road and drop their children off (and we all know stressed parents on the school run who are possibly only concerned with getting their children to school and getting to work themselves might not be as careful and considerate as at other times). There is another point where you have to be pretty close in to the kerb. The road splits further up into two lanes, but to keep the traffic flowing and stop miles of tailbacks people start splitting a bit further back. It is possible but I'm afraid to say it doesn't leave much room for anything to get past unless they do the above. Of course they could wait in line like the rest of us, but why would they if they are legally allowed to proceed (isn't that one of the advantages of using a bicycle)...?

I weaned myself off P2P a long time ago for various reasons, subscription TV actually being one of them... (terrible copies, virus/malware, computers being left on 24/7 were a few of the others). I had a (how shall I put this) 'heated discussion' with the OH about this the other day, the 'ignorance is no excuse' line, the common sense angle, the fact that wording things as 'guidance' isn't helpful and about the law and law-breaking in general. Bit difficult to get an unbiased opinion as she is in the job (not law-breaking, the other side)... As far as 'ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it', who knows every single law and how it applies? Plus the Highway Code isn't 'the law' it is mostly guidance with some laws in it, but unless changes are advertised on various media formats how is everyone supposed to know? I haven't looked at it since I passed my test (which I know is no excuse - see above)... Looking at holding up traffic (for cyclists specifically - I can't see anything in the 'new rules' for pedestrians), I read this: "It's perfectly legal for cyclists to ride two abreast on the road, so when you are off on a spin with your friends, feel free to cycle side by side. It's the law...no. The thing is the 'hierarchy of road users' seems fairly common sense to me. It possibly wasn't a 'legal' thing as much as right of way/priority is seen as. Technically I'm not sure that you 'break the law' if you pull out on someone and cause an accident because they had 'right of way/priority' specifically, although that would be the 'gist' of the issue (possibly for insurance claims), rather you'd be prosecuted under the fairly wide umbrella of 'dangerous driving/due care and attention' etc. If at all... as long as there were no serious injuries/fatalities... "You should not cut across cyclists, horse riders or horse drawn vehicles going ahead when you are turning into or out of a junction or changing direction or lane, just as you would not turn across the path of another motor vehicle. This applies whether they are using a cycle lane, a cycle track, or riding ahead on the road and you should give way to them." I mean, this is obvious isn't it? How else do you pull in/out of a busy turning - use your experience as a car driver to assess the speed of oncoming traffic and make a decision on if it is safe to pull out, right? The thing is is says you 'should not'...? If you look at Rule H2: You MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing, and to pedestrians and cyclists on a parallel crossing (see Rule 195). You should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross a zebra. Also, this: 'At a junction you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning.' The Highway Code explains: "Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence" Although failure to comply with the other rules of the Code will not, in itself, cause a person to be prosecuted, The Highway Code may be used in evidence in any court proceedings under the Traffic Acts (see The road user and the law) to establish liability. This includes rules which use advisory wording such as ‘should/should not’ or ‘do/do not’. The difference as I see it, is that you might be prosecuted for doing something in instances where it says 'should/should not' as being 'dangerous driving/due care and attention' possibly citing the Highway Code 'rules', but you will be prosecuted for instances where it says 'must/must not' as those are part of the law.
