  1. Anyone able to feedback on how their trial went? Did you buy into it? When people say they are going to put the shared documents into the cloud is that into sharepoint? How much free space do you get there? Or linking them to user accounts to use the free 1tb? Cheers
  2. Loving those ideas. Things like that, that are cheap or free but can make such a difference are great! Keep them coming guys.
  3. Hi I am probably just pipe dreaming but i have been thinking and like the idea of introducing something new and fresh to our school (A secondary). I want to bring something to the school that they either can't do or don't have but that can have a big impact on a certain area of the school. Just wondering if any of you have introduced something you would class as revolutionary at your school that made a difference to teaching and learning. So not necessarily a virtual network or new backup system or 10Gig backbone but something that has had a real impact in the classroom or how things work at your school. Is this making sense or not? Interested to hear what other people have done or are doing. Cheers
  4. Just bumping this again to see if anyone has any byod policies they can share? Thanks
  5. Yes just checked and i have that too. Might be linked to my issue. Anyone had it where the devices will link and show up in the dashboard but not carry out a remote task such as a scan or update? Thanks
  6. Hi AJWhite1970, Try this: Network > Settings > The Policy you are using Click advanced at the top right General Settings tab Tick Silent mode Does that stop it? It says it should prevent notifications etc Are you looking to replace another product with it?
  7. Thanks sagima Has anyone else got any advice? We were thinking of allowing the sixth form a bit more freedom due to the fact they were now sixth formers.
  8. Would people recommend this as a replacement for RM Virus Protect for a secondary school? Just looking into it now. Anyone run into problems with it? Like everyone my budget is getting smaller and smaller so this might save us some money.
  9. Hi I have been asked to gain some feedback from other schools regarding two things. Do you allow your sixth form less restricted internet access? Do you have a BYOD policy? Would you be able to share it with me? Basically we are getting a new web filter (Lightspeed) and will now be able to differentiate our filtering more. Do you allow your sixth form access to site you don't let the rest of the school e.g. Youtube, Twitter etc? Do you do it based on time of day? We will also be launching a BYOD network with them after summer. Does anyone have a BYOD policy the students adhere to that you could share with us? Many Thanks
  10. Hi The_IT_Guy, Just to update you I managed to find a solution with using RMMC Remote Access. It allows me to run the RMMC via the internet and can either run it directly over the internet or run and install it. Needed some tweaking to the SSL certificate for our easylink. We don't use easylink so had to renew the certificate. For anyone else look at TEC articles TEC1257812 and TEC1712955. Never knew this feature existed but think it is going to be really useful.
  11. Hi Getting closer to getting this remote access to work. Just getting an authentication error when i try to login now. Have tried everything in this tec article TEC1712955 but does anyone have any ideas? It lets me login but then says Authentication Error: Cannot contact the server Thanks
  12. Hi Nick, I'm also interested in this and I just tried the url https://pdc/rmmc but just failed to load anything. Is there a way to enable it? Or is it an add on you buy into? Thanks
  13. Did they say whether the pricing would continue at the reduced rate each year? Just worried about it working really well and then the price doubling.
  14. Anyone had a play with this yet? Very interested in having a look at it. Cheers
  15. Do you run BYOD with it? Was it easy to set up with Lightspeed as that is a major aim for us to get setup once we switch.
  16. Hi As the title really. We are revamping our desktops and want to update our wallpapers. Slightly different in colour for students, staff and admin. Can you share yours to give us some sort of inspiration and upload a pic of yours? Cheers
  17. Hi Is anyone dealing directly with BT for their broadband feed? We are getting quotes from a number of providers but seemed quite impressed with their offer and SLA. Also can offer Smoothwall as the firewall and filter for us. Just wanted to know if anyone had experience dealing with them for their school? Cheers
  18. That is similar to my line of thinking. What do you use?
  19. Hi We currently use a company who provide us with the cages for projectors. The setup at the school was custom made cages for the projectors (at the time Sanyo SW35's). This means the cages are quite small and i am yet to find a new projector that will fit in them. To buy universal cages from our current supplier it is around £300 so it makes replacing projectors an expensive job. My questions: Do you have all your projectors in cages? Any recommendations of suppliers? Do you do the installations yourself or have a third party company? Thanks

In fairness i should also add when we got other quotes around renewal our current provider was willing to match any cheaper quotes so we have never really lost out.

We did this two years ago. We pay yearly and were told we can move supplier. I think it is just that you commit to buy from Microsoft for the three years rather than the reseller.
  22. Hi We are looking at ordering some computers and have been really impressed with VeryPC. Loving the cable lock on the back of the flex. That will be a blessing. But they seem kinda loud with the idle noise (Fan). Does anyone else have a full suite of these? Are they too loud or am i just picking up on it as it is in our office? Cheers
  23. Thanks guys. Really interesting to hear how other schools are run. Keep it coming I often find if people come into the office they walk straight over to my desk and start talking at me even if I'm deep in concentration and the techs are looking up
  24. Hi I've been wondering how other schools structure their IT support. If your a Network Manager in a school do you have your own office or share with all the IT technicians? Also how do you delegate jobs? Do you go through the Helpdesk assigning jobs to other technicians or does everyone just choose the jobs they will do? Trying to find a balance between the big jobs I need to do and plan etc and the smaller day to day jobs. Do you just have one phone for IT help calls or do staff ring any of the phones in your office? We have an apprentice we have been training up and I was thinking about making him the kind of first contact for 99% of issues. If he can't solve it he passes it onto myself or someone else. Or this might just be pointless Would be interested in hearing how other schools structure their support and who does what jobs? Cheers
  25. Currently all our tape drives are built in to the three pedestal servers. I want something easy to take offsite each night, just incase the worst happened. Cheers
