Yes we have the in touch ticked for those who have asked to be communicated for mailing etc - I was more concerned with the order in which parents are typically telephoned by teachers - a solution of which is offered by using priority 1 and 2 for both parents.

Yeah cheers Bob - done this was just colouring the actual grade cell I couldn't do - as I missed the option at the bottom of the page! If there isn't an Alis - then the rules of IF +/-5 won't be applied, therefore no colour - which is what we'd want... It's a PAIN to set up - but I'm hoping I can clone for the upper 6th! Cheers all! Indeed - though in our school there are many many "other contacts" - more than 2 - we have nannys, housekeepers, secretaries, you name it - bit of a minefield!

That must be frustrating - though I get that, for whatever reason - and I'm not being political (!), for the majority of kids, mum is better to call first. It's not immediately clear how it ought to be arranged, short of asking the parents themselves to prioritise, as it were, their contact details, as suggested by @bobsmith Then, if they both self-prioritise as "1" - then it doesn't matter who appears first on the student teacher view; unless we ask them that they're only allowed 1 priority "1"...

Hi folks, I have a question. Please consider this example: At the end of term we have grades for each pupil in L6 for all the subjects they study. We also have a prediction (Alis). We derive value added scores based on these two points. So If in art I got a B (50 points) and my Alis prediction was 56 (A/B) my VA is -6. Before SIMS I'd use conditional formatting to change the colour of the L6 grade in Excel, depending on the VA (+/- half a grade VA, made the grade go greed/red) I'm aware this can be done in SIMS - but I'm finding myself setting a marksheet to calculate the VA, which obviously requires the Grade and Alis aspects in the marksheet. Then when I want to implement the nested if then else, I have to add a column for data review using formula, which as you know doesn't include an aspect. This column returns the grade in the column, but it's a) read only so can't be edited b) even if it could be edited it's not the actual grade c) most importantly, it only brings through the grade if either of the nested ifs are met, ie if the VA is +/-5, anyone with a VA of 0 for example, or blank because we have no Alis for them, returns nothing in this column. I'd like to know what others do for this numerical VA, ((rather than comparing to a target grade which is a lot easier); and if I'm missing something really obvious! Cheers all T

That's a good idea - inviting the parents to decide... Yes that "admin view" or student details, though, is a bit fiddly, quite a few clicks needed to get to the contact details, and the email addresses aren't hyperlinked like they are on student teacher view... Rearranging priority like you have it is a worthwhile line of investigation, though! Cheers T

So what do you do when both parents work (or both are at home), if you don't have two priority 1s?

And this goes back to my original point, the reason is that if you have two priority 1s, on student teacher view, it just shows the first one alphabetically; there's no way of chosing which it shows. You have to click "see more" to see the second parent. So our idea is to have, broadly speaking, all mums as 1 and dads as 2 (so that the mums details appear first on that particular screen). This obviously wouldn't be for everyone, but in the bast majority of cases, this would work best. Keen to know how others use priority numbers too.

I think you misunderstood. Nowhere did I say "stay at home mum" - I said at-home mum (as in live with child) should be 1, as in the first person to call as in my experience, mother's are the best to call. Then father should be 2. I'm talking about gender or equality

This has brought about a wider conversation about the organisation of the priorities. We have two priority 1s if both parents live with the student (and have not opted out of being contacted). However I think it's probably wiser to have all at-home mums to be "1", all at-home dads "2" This would make more sense in most cases, what does everyone else do??

I am attaching marksheets to the COURSE for the HODS to check - but it's, rightly, annoying for them to view all pupils in the course when the aspects and results only apply to half of them. EG applying the YEAR 10 reports template to the MATHS (GCSE) course shows YEAR 11 pupils, too. This is confusing for some staff, especially when we have a YEAR 11 reports template too Adding the class to each template linked to the course helps somewhat, as they can sort by class to get the year 10s to the top, for example - but does anyone else do this another way so the HODS only see the kids they need to? Still has the same effect - look at it if the numbers were higher: 100 becomes 95 99 becomes 94 98 becomes 93 and so on - the rank, therefore, would be identical :/

Hello folks Bit of a tricky one here I have an aspect called EFFORT AVERAGE which averages all the effort aspects in the template. The effort gradeset is 1, 2, 3 or 4 - where 1 is the best. I want to rank the position of the effort, so obviously use the position formula. Trouble is it ranks ascending, so an average of "4" is the highest position, instead of the lowest. Obviously the default way in which position works is the most common, the highest grade should indeed be ranked first. But does anyone have a sneaky way of eliciting the "correct" position from the average column, whilst retaining the same value?? Excel allows =RANK(RANGE,N) where N is ascending or descending - a nice tick box in this formula on SIMS would be nice! Cheers Tom

It's not resolution exactly, but the window size. The jump doesn't occur for me in maximised window but reducing it by half, it does. I'm on 1920*1080
