Ah right, I thought ALT+Enter might work, actually... Unfortunately our staff don't have access to SIMS. What I'll do is I'll tell them they can import from Word if they want to sacrifice line breaks, and that line breaks can exist if they manually enter it in and use Alt + Enter... ...Although I bet that confuses them... you know what teachers are like !

Thanks vikpaw. Unfortunately having to manually adjust each of the many excel spread sheets, and replace breaks with \n (or whatever) wouldn't be terribly desirable. And there's no way I could ask teachers to do that!! I mean, it's not the end of the world, but you'd have thought that if SIMS wanted people to use the Individual Reports arm effectively, they'd at least allow for line breaks in comments (which constitute a large part of what a report for a student is). Hi folks, Trying to create simple reports (for target setting in the sixth form) which feature a few grades, then a comment. I want to put the grades and comments onto an individual report which eventually shows only the rows for the subjects the sixth formers study. All fine. Only issue so far is that the comments don't feature any of the line breaks that I've put in (as tests) into the excel file (which is then imported). The line breaks themselves come from Word, and then are pasted into the excel cells. This is because this is how the teaching staff will likely enter the comments. Ah OK - sounds like a big job. I've been a data manager for 7 years (there wasn't many of us around when I first started) and become increasingly more involved in the strategic side of things, teaching staff to interpret the data, use it properly for raising achievement and gaining outstanding ofsteds - unfortunately just started in a new school which is about where my old school was when I started 7 years ago in terms of data use etc. So i'm starting all over again!!

Ah of course that makes complete sense!! So the only additional thing it would need, then, is if your new aspect doesn't require a gradeset (eg it's a comment, mark integer - etc) there would have to be a way of entering those parameters too, right? In the very firs instance, though, I imagine the most wanted would be to add gradesets and marks (decimal/integer)! So LosOjos, it sounds like you dfo lots in Assessment - what kind of things do you do? Are you in the IT dept or data manager of some sort?

Well, I couldn't !! And there doesn't seem to be a way of easily finding the ID - furthermore, it seems (redundantly) every aspect not only needs the gradeset ID, but also the grades and equivalent values of that gradeset. Which is silly!

Something which allows you to choose a different gradeset for each row would be great, too!

Aaaah - I did read the notes but I didn't fully understand that it required me to do that - I thought it was already (or should already) hve been there. Will try this now, then! On a side not, is it possible to attach grade sets to these aspects during this process, do you know, or do we have to append them to each aspect in SIMS? Cheers!

Good call. At the moment I'm just testing it to ensure it updates the relevant text file(s) but it doesn't seem to be doing anything... is there a particular version of Excel where this works best? Didn't work with 2010 or 2003...

Hello folks, I was just wondering (and I have a suspicion this isn't possible) whether you can somehow batch create Aspects in SIMS. It would be a lot easier to create the 100 or so aspects using excel and import them, perhaps as a CTF? I'm pretty sure Yellis/MidYIS' CTF files import aspects - so I wonder how to do it? Cheers Tom
