Must admit preferred Goren to Logan. He was ok but Goren character rang more true to me. Russ

To be honest there is one big issue with SB and that is the site allows students to upload profiles and pictures which he as owner had access to ALL. This gives me a big head start when grooming kids if he has got some information on it. Russ

Interesting we have had them in today and yesterday as well.. Russ

Current forum silliness, an end
russdev replied to Dos_Box's topic in General EduGeek News/Announcements
I will paraphrase here but... At BETT RM Chairman (But CEO has said same sort of comments) made a point to come a visit the stand and make some very positive comments about the 'geek' how important the site was both to schools and suppliers and ICT community at whole. You could take it as playing to owners but knowing both former CEO and current CEO and John the chairman I have never known them to play to the crowd when it comes to comments like that. They watch the words very carefully as they are held accountable for everything they say. Russ -

To clarify what sophos incident was. Many moons ago a young member of staff managed to convince a young lawyer that they should send some stop notices to the 'geek' over some threads. Anyway once the bosses found out they played hell with said staff and withdrew the action. Maybe something to do with a Reg story. I still remember phone call from Graham at Sophos i was replying to an email over matter to rest of admins when call came through. -
Data Encryption
russdev replied to ayoward's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Yes has been for about 12 months (I am on the LA working party). Few things True Crypt is good for whole disk backup such as laptops. As a memory stick solution I think it is very complicated and staff would not use them. Hence why for memory sticks we are looking for better solution (hardware based encryption was idea until someone broke it so need to look into it bit more). But key issue here is finding a solution that works both on MACS and Windows. But anyway feel free to give me a buzz if want to discuss it more. Russ -

Hi Chris has had to go home (family member got ill) so might be calling you tomorrow. Sorry about that. As for roles of mods and admins.. Mods: The edit/move and try and keep the forum running. Then every so often we ask them to do other things as stuff arises. As for Admins between us we run the org. Chris is edu-god and his word is final. He deals with Advertising and making the money decisions. Shaun does all the web stuff. Myself my role is marketing and PR Ric really is our events guy and our catch all guy (I am sure he will not mind being called that). So Ric as well as running our BETT presence he puts he hand to most of above roles. He often takes on forums for the admins so when things need admin to step in Ric will often do it. Then we all handle various 'relationships' with various suppliers (mainly were we already have high level contacts etc). So for example Chris deals with IDG, Ric deals with Navaho and I deal with RM (you get the idea). Hopefully that makes some kind of sense. -

Iphone jailbreak and nearly went and bricked it.
russdev replied to russdev's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yes after research (did not have time this morning as had to get phone working) the 3gs if reset iphone puts it into recovery mode and then you have to rerun the jailbreak software for it to boot normally. I would jailbreak it tonight if it wasn't for the fact my cable is on my desk at work Russ -
