Dear All. Firstly, We have a mixture of 10.5 and 10.6 clients that all use AdmitMac V5.0.2 For over a year we have been using this setup with no issues... recently(for over a month now) applications(Adobe CS5, Office 2008, Logic) Freeze up on us and the only way to correct the issue is by holding the power button... This is random throughout all the Macs, They can be ok for an hour or two even three sometimes for a day but then the freezing happens. It is random throughout the Macs and does not happen at the same time. I am awaiting feedback from Thursby but wondered if anyone could shed some light as to why this might be happening. AdmitMac V5.0.2 / We Use Network Home Folders -------------------------------------------------------------- Ok So Failing AdmitMAc, We are thinking about having an AD-OD intergration in the hope that this may be a more reliable setup I am asking if their is any EXPERT!!!(MUST) who has extensive knowledge in setting up an AD-OD Intergration Mac OS X Server Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Server 60 Mac Clients - Mixture of 10.5.8 and 10.6 We are willing to pay for your time at an agreed cost of setting this up for us if we proceed down this route. Well maybe not a woohoo. We have 3 projectors bulbs down... As a backup ( which is what I have been telling SLT for months ) I bought 3 projectors for times like this... (Now they went for it!) I got them on order for a pre 9:30 this morning... Lets hope I can get them in the classrooms before Ofsted gets to them. I aint going down like that! Happy Days!

They are always very cost effective and are able to get you Advice and Support from the manufacters on the phone for any questions you may have.

Tried changing the Versions and a few other things but nothing still works.... I stumbled across a post in the xams forum regarding the EXams Organiser. We are currently using Version 6.76 This was posted Affected Products Examinations Organiser -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes Tools | Import Results & Enrolments Results import process in this version release does not support version 12 results files Exams Organiser cannot import version 12 results files. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Advice Exams Organiser 6.77 and upwards will be able to process Version 12 results files, which are now being supplied by the Exam Boards. Therefore, if you do experience this message, then upgrading to the Autumn Update 2009 release of SIMS .net will allow a successful import to take place. I contacted our LEA who informed me that the Autumn Update is not the Autumn Upgrade. They have released the Autumn Update 2009 for me to download and Apply - Can not try this until later on but will post back if this rectifys the problem.

we are having a problem importing the results. We contacted our support through the LEA Support and they gave us a patch to apply thorugh dbupgrade. Ok so I applied this patch and still the results will not import, I have been given a second DB patch to apply which I will try tonight. We are on the latest Autumn Upgrade. I will post back the results of applying this second patch. PM me your email and I would be more than happy to forward the patch's to you.. although I would advise contacting your LEA support first to see if they can help. Chris

I use Isa server 2006 to publish the site externally. We have the RD Web access and Gateway Published through Isa enabling staff to access sims.net through a secure website. I must say Server 2008 R2 is very very nice. When running software through the gateway it appears that the software runs locally on your computer and If you are using windows 7 at home you can dish out packages that will sit in the users start menu and will automatically setup the secure connection and open the software.... did I say it appears that it runs locally? Gone are my VPN days. and the CALs wasnt that expensive either for a 100.

This is sweet as. Firstly I always Hide C: Cdrom is set to D: and I manage USB drives on Y: and Z: with policy's to restrict file type access running from them, you name it I have it set, I run a very tight network... after 5 years here as NM I have seen every trick Students have done ( although now everything is blocked they have resorted to bringing in Excel spreadsheets with games embedded inside the sheet, little blinders! I cant block excel so looks like they have won on that one.) back to RDWeb: So I published explorer.exe then tested it using my staff test account, this only connects the network drives staff should get inc. H:. Excellent! Then tested it with SLT account and they get the mapped drives with the addition of extra drives available to them, this goes on.... Looks like I am all sorted! This is quite fantastic as it will only map out the drives specified by the GPO for that user. Damn.. I have only been using 2008 R2 for a couple of weeks now and I must say I rather like it. Thanks for that, I wouldnt of thought of publishing the explorer.exe... makes no sense at all that this would work but there you go. I have just purchased 32GB of memory for this server, and I am looking into purchasing another 2 additonal quad core proccessor to take it to four, I know maybe abit OTT but then as they authorised me to get anything I need to make this happen, I may as well get them in while I can. I'm gunna see how it handles for now and then possibly use kit in my sims server, lesson monitor just takes the biscuit.

That is interesting.. Never though of publishin the explorer.exe Going to test this out now and see how it goes.... Few points: I have each shared mapped to the server, Lets say the user who logins into the RDweb has access to drive 1 and drive 2, I assume if they click on any other drive they will not be allowed access? I will test this and find out. What I am interested in is... Lets say in RDweb we can create a link to each indvidual shared resource folder and using the remoteapp permissions hide the icons for users that dont need that shared folder so when they log on to the RDweb they will only see the icons to the shared folders they are allowed access to I like the fact that in does open documents in the explorer window but as a rule I think copying and pasting that to their desktops before opening would be a good idea off to try it out. i'll let you know how I go. w00t w00t.

Now then all, I was thinking..... maybe a bad idea! I run the RD Web access and setup the Gateway for RemoteAPP access, I have it secured down with SSL and successfully published sims.net access through the site (or any other remoteapp), this works a dream i must say. ( Although the isa setup to get this working was abit of pain in the arse, especially Cos I already have OWA listening on the same IP- the gateway only pipes traffic through the default port 443 and can not be changed so I piped the traffic through 4433 to the OWA to get around it. My question is I am very interested in publishing Network Shares through the RDWeb site and what to know if anyone has done this. It would be great to have a icon listed that opens up a file explorer listing the mapped network drives on the server giving the staff ability to copy files from the shared resources to their machine at home.. or accessing students documents for marking. Apply a rule that allows https traffic from internal to external, or from a group of computers etc... are you able to ping your webmail address from the internal network through ISA? have you latest upgrades and service pack on for isa? You could hit the monitor -> logging and then run query, this will show u all connections going through the isa and whats being denied. Then with the logging running, try and hit the webmail address and you should see what rule is blocking it.

I notice people around the forum was looking for way to prevent msn messenger from running so i thought i would share my way of preventing this and also any other type of exe file you do not want students to run on the network. Firstly I created a new GPO "prevent software" Then get hold of all the exe files you want to stop running, If its msn messenger you will need to download each version of this and I will tell you why later. Games Students and running on the network etc. Save all of them to a folder on your network. GO to the policy and edit it. Computer Configuration-Windows Settings-Security Settings-Software Restriction Rules. Right click Additional Rules and select new hash rule. Browse to the specified exe to block and select ok. ensure the security level is set to dissallowed. Apply n Ok it. Apply it to a group of computers and then watch the little suckers try and run it. No Chance! This also denies the exe to run from a usb drive or any external device, Caught them bringing it in on usb stickes one day. This creates a hash file of the actual exe file itself, even changing the name of the exe would not bypass it. Although because each version of msn messenger is diffrent and has diffrent information in the exe you have to create a hash of that too. Once you have it for all then its done. all you need is to create ones of the new ones that come out to keep it blocked.
