About carlday

  1. Mounting the access points is being done with the cabling of the network points. The access points are msm410
  2. Thanks for all your help. I looks like we are going for a HP system but we need it configured and have been quoted 4k to configure it has anyone configured a hp wireless before, is it difficult should we be looking at getting someone it to do it or is it something we could attempt ourselves.
  3. Thanks for info does anyone have any views of Xirrus someone would like to quote for a xirrus solution.
  4. Hi All, I am after some advice on wireless we are looking into whole school wireless, We are torn between netgear and HP. Netgear came out and did a site survey and quoted for the equipment, we already had a HP quote but it was twice as much but now HP have matched netgears quote. We have a procurve network (no netgear anywhere in school) Does anyone have any experence in either HP or Netgear WIFI? Do clients move between APs without losing connection or does the connection drop for a split second? Any help, views would be great. Thanks Carl
  5. Thanks for the answer. I knew that we could only go 30m on the 62.5 which is ok in some places but saying that do you think it would be more benifical to upgrade fiber everywhere.
  6. Hi Thanks for the help I am looking at getting 5412 with 10gig modules. Hp have a new 10gig module that supports 62.5 fibre so hopefully won't have to upgrade fibre. Thing problem we have is we can only afford to get our main switch upgraded with modules ready for 10gig does anyone know if the modules are able to slow to 1gig, can I have a old 1gig module opposite end of a new switch with a 10gig module.
  7. Hi All We have decided to upgrade our network switches at the moment we have HP 4108s and HP 2650s. We would like to have some workstations connected over gigabit, our backbone at the moment is gigabit fibre. We would like to stick with hp has anyone had any experince of newer hp switches, what would you recommend. Does anyone know the best places to get hp switches at the lowest cost because budget is not huge, we are happy to have used equipment. Thanks Carl
  8. Spanning tree is enabled. Kids love looping our network so had to turn it on ages ago
  9. Hi This morning when we came it some of our switches were on and flashing but we had no network and I could not telnet into them. There were two 2650 in one cab and a 4108 and a 2650 in another cab all the same, lights on no one home. In procurve manager it showed a warning symbol by them. Could the switches have overheated? is there any way of finding out there temperature? I thought it was strange it was only two cabs that were affected and all switches in the cabs. I had to reset the switches to wake them up Any ideas why Thanks Carl
  10. How difficult is it to config Vlans on procurve switches. I have not done it before so where do I start?
  11. Hi We have a flat network no vlans. Does RM CC3 let you connect servers at 1gb also will rm build under a network with Vlans. Carl
  12. Hi We have about 500 nodes the servers are connected at 100mb into switch, switches are joined together at 1gb.
  13. If i was to create Vlans for each building will it cause problems with rm cc3 we have had problems in the past with rstp upsetting RM
  14. we are having some problems with network. First thing in morning people log on and don't get shared drives and problems with wake on lan. We were worried if all switches knew all mac address the magic packet for wake on lan is getting sent to the wrong place and ageing before it gets to the right place. We are unsure if it network switch related or not but thought now is a good time to check the switch and network setup.
  15. Is it good or bad the switches knowing all mac addresses? Can we clear mac address tables? so old entries are removed.
