  1. @Gareth As tony says it is in fact one of the better locations at BETT but also not a simple as saying move as we run service for BETT we get the space contra which means there are limited stands we could choose from. But as rule we are in very good position if you A look at stand location, B who is around us (in previous years we have had some big names near us, c we are about 10 stands away from some very big names inc RM. In terms of space what got to remember is when you see a big stand that is not one stand but several spaces brought for example RM stand (they buy space only) is made up of probably 8 normal stands. We have one of the biggest single stands you can buy... @Tony oh now he comes and says what good stand I am sure I remember I certain tiger faced person moaning at the stand I picked the first year and then after the BETT show best thing since slice bread.. As for mods thing I will as you say take that to PM to discuss more. Russ

    Why?

I am going to let this thread ride a bit (as long people play nice) to get peoples views but I would like to make one point very clear the mods are following a rule set by admins. Please continue as before..
  5. Yes it is something we think about but not something we worry about. We are getting good a predicting this old political game and have a good idea were BSF will go over the next few years. Russ
  6. I suspect that after sometime the resources will be made available to teachers as I do know there is work behind the scenes to sort something out. Its a waiting game at the moment. Russ
  7. Back to on topic the 14 day demo is quite good. The only downside is only runs in IE and not firefox or chromo. Russ
  8. Are we union no it costs way too much money to do (Tony looked into for us once). As for what level we get involved in all I say is it gets higher each day and yes we do lobby to certain degree. Lets put it like this ideas are often bounced to us before they go public. What I would say is senior people within lot of areas take us very seriously a small example EduGeek.net has been asked to talk by most senior person in an RBC (director) to talk at there annual conference. Would I say has Ed Balls heard of us not sure but wouldn't surprise me if he had I suspect some people senior in DCSF have heard of us. Maybe this will help we were discussing how we fit into BETT and education market and we are either.. Google before it became evil... or We are like the brother or sister that no one in the family admits to but heck you secretly want to be them.
  9. Ok what does EduGeek.net do... We are an organisation for IT support staff in education and to try and improve working lives of IT support staff in education. So from that stems the successful community in the website to providing free conferences and tech days (for example the Microsoft Tech days we have ran for members). Our BETT presence is three fold really we run the technical help point for BETT (Something we need to make sure is more clear in future years) and then for us as org meeting you lot and also gaining new members to the community. Then other angle is working on what we coin "National Agenda" issues so working with quangos and other orgs. Idea is when someone comes up with an idea we can say "look if you change it like this then that makes it easier to adopt for IT support staff in schools". Also got to remember that as org there are stuff we work on that never seen publicly due to legal reasons. As for how we make money simple the adverts on site pay for it and yes contra to what people think it does pay for it and no we do not sell the database (no supplier believes us when we say we do not sell the database). At BETT we had one director of a company tell us how much he though we could sell EduGeek.net for and and wasn't pence... (I would like to point out we are not planning on selling it) We have a fundamental rule that is what we do is free for the members so conference and other stuff are all free for you to attend. Conferences started due to lack of free technical conferences. Again ran in holidays so people could be freed to attend. Again tech days we have ran free. The site free to access and use. Hope that gives you some idea about us.
  10. Something I did not know until I spoke to Promethean the other day. Most Promethean boards (apart from the really old ones) can be upgraded to multi-touch for about £90. You get 4 (I think) pens and copy of the latest software. Russ
  11. As said well done mate to all of you.. Tip find teddy going to keep and every month take photo of them next to it as people said amazing how they change so quick. Russ

  23. Been a lot of research on the subject of criminal profiling and the fact that criminals as rule escalate from small time to large crimes. This is especially true of crimes where involve sadistic, abusive or murderous nature.
  24. I think the key here as was in ep of CSI I was watching last night. The point was made everyone went on about the suspects and people caught doing the crime but the victim gets lost. You have to remember these are photos of child abuse not pornography. There is a very good talk on NACE (I think) from Jim Gamble of CEOP that if we give it name child pornography we give it an element of 'approval' . You have to think of it like this. I should also make point that people do not go from nothing to abusing a child (or any crime) as a rule. People start of with something such as they start looking at photos of child abuse then the kick they get off it is no longer is there so they have to up the game. So then it goes to something small scale like flashing at a child. Each time they get away with it each time it escalates until they start creating abuse photos. Thing to remember is that people create abuse photos not to create content but so they can relive the enjoyment they got first time around abusing the child. I will accept there are few people who create purely for financial gain but they are few and far between. Also remember that people who are abused as children (or as adults) live with that till the day they die. A child was sexually abused to give the person viewing it some kind of enjoyment. I suspect that people on here with family would make no difference between viewing and creating if it was there child/brother/sister or cousin who was abused?
  25. As can see from attached picture I have got to create a text box that has curved edge at the bottom in Pageplus Anyideas Russ
