As announced at Capita Conference last month Capita CS and Timetable Aid have teamed up to provide Nova-T 4 free to African schools. Capita Children’s Services has announced that its timetable software, SIMS Nova-T 4, can be used free of charge by schools in Africa. The software has been donated to the charity Timetable Aid, and will initially be distributed to secondary schools in Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The idea behind Timetable Aid was conceived by the charity’s managing director, Tim Hicks, when he learnt of Capita’s plans to phase out SIMS Nova-T 4 in the UK and replace it with the current version of the software. Tim Hicks, managing director of Timetable Aid, said: “In many African schools, a lot of time is spent planning the timetable manually, which can be an arduous task. In addition, the need to manage resources efficiently is perhaps greater than in the UK. There are a finite number of teachers, teaching tools and even less money. With this software, schools will be able to manage their teachers, pupils and rooms more effectively.” Phil Neal, managing director of SIMS at Capita Children’s Services, said: “SIMS Nova-T 4 is a mini management information system (MIS) for schools as it includes class listings, pupil information and reporting facilities so for schools that have not used a MIS before it is the perfect first step. It is also designed to run on low spec computers which is perfect for Africa where computers in schools are often less powerful than our own equivalents. “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Timetable Aid. They are committed to helping these schools make the most of their limited resources.” Timetable Aid plan to distribute the software to approximately 2500 schools who will be supported by a volunteer group of IT support workers from UK schools and local authorities who will help the schools install and run the software.

russdev replied to russdev's topic in Legacy CMS Comments
@witch sorry missed that one now edited. -
Apparently as title says only 30% of smarts boards have the free warranty activated on it. Smart Technologies are running a campaign which ends on 31 August 2010 that has been designed to raise the awareness of the benefits of registering for the SMART Board IWB’s warranty. Schools registering for the warranty will be selected each week for a range of prizes including a laptop trolley filled with 30 Fizzbook Spin 10.1" mini tablet PCs with WIN7 starter, one of 75 SMART Response PE 32 handset kits and one of 100 SMART Slate units. Schools wanting to take part in the promotion should register online at Untitled Page using their unique activation code. Any enquiries should be addressed to distributor Steljes Customer Services on 08450 747 007.

Smart are running a simple as part of there first global mass market campaign “Love of Learning”. I wonder if support staff can be entered? It looks like Smart are offering "many prizes for the winning teacher’s school of choice, so teachers should encourage their students to vote." SMART Love of Learning™.

no nothing changed you can use it on a smartboard or on a "reasonable" number of PCS not connected to any touch/pen systems. so can't use it on your Promethean boards as an example. Nothing changed..

no but close... At time i did think about that. But no not used any gas appliances and also felt like it at work as well.. Just really wiped us all out and the fact it took me two weeks to get over it fully is strange (I get illness for day sleep and then i am fine most times) Russ

First I am no lawyer and also I am not making any comment if the act and if the act is right or not.. Technically schools will not be classed as an ISP the people providing service aka in state schools often that the RBC will be classed as the ISP. Issue to school comes down to people downloading copyright material and then your connection being dropped. At a school level this will be stopped by using effective filtering either within school or at the RBC level. Yes it has some implications.. Russ

Had this odd illness go through our house. It starts off with you feeling rubbish and really really tied, trouble sleeping for a day then back to just feeling rubbish. You feel like that number of days (never being sick or anything just like you been hit by a train). Then get a chronic head ache and get that for about 4 days then start to feel fine. Slowly work its way around our house just wondered if anyone else got it or just our house.
