+1 Spiceworks easy to setup and maintain. Got a nice front end for teachers to log in to and submit jobs. Which emails all technicians with updates as well. Links in with active directory very well so staff dont need to remember more passwords and usernames.

Smartboard Wireless Module - connection issues
LukeC replied to LukeC's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thanks didnt think tot take the bluetooth kit off will give it ago -
I have installed a new smartboard and wireless module and seem to be having issues. The dongle and the reciever seems to be communicating with each other (both got a little green light on them that flashes and is now solid), but the light on the smartboard is constant red. I have tried a reset of the board and "re-pairing" the devices but still no luck, when i try and connect through the smart software it can not see the devices. I have also connected via a usb cable to do a firmware upgrade - the green light flashes at me now. But going through the firmware stages it can not see the board via the usb so i cant do the upgrade. Has anyone got any other suggestions i am going to try a different laptop at lunch time. Thanks

We currently us the tech connect range for our face plates/modules and use power splitters on the floor like you mentioned. However after reading over some posts i thought if you buy 2 Female VGA modules for the face plate and have one wired to the projector and the other one looped off the first module which in theory should work for the monitor but is not tried and tested. You then can add your audio inot this range as well

Have you tried an IP address instead of its hostname - bit of a longshot. Edit: Another bit of a longshot is it on the same subnet as the proxy as you have a few ranges?

Users being logged off immediately after logging in
LukeC replied to acrobson's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
A bit info to my last post I right clicked Internet explorer maintainace under user config in group policy editor and "reset browser settings" and then reented them all again and this seemed to work for us but this was directly related to winlogon errors similar to what you describe. Hope this helps. -
Users being logged off immediately after logging in
LukeC replied to acrobson's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
We have had something similar to this, the user may get logged off a blue screen or even the machine restarted. We kept getting winlogon errors when an admin logged into the machine of when the problem occured, we find out it was to do with group policy and we had to recreate the internet settings in gpo this fixed the issue for us - memory a bit vauge will have a look at gpo tomorrow to what we did if you need me to. -
Anyone seen this malware recently
LukeC replied to reggiep's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Had a slightly different one this week it had the suual pop ups in the notification area but upon on reboot the trackpad and keyboard didnt work, so UBCD came very in handy here and ran spybot but also preform a backup of the files at the same time i think it was called "antispyware and antivirus" -

How do people use final Cut express? We have a suite of 20 imacs and the media students have begun producing the final projects. The macs are joined to ad and they logon on with their ad credentials. We were getting them to save them directly to the home directorys on the windows network, but this presented issues of the videos stuttering due to the capcity of the network (we assume). We then decided to get them to save to the local mac for that lesson and upload the whole projects to the XServe at the end of the lesson. This means that they are downloading the work from the Xserve and uploading there work every lesson. This is becoming a long process they have had two lessons on it now and taking between 20 - 30 mins at the satrt and the end of the lesson. Do people have any suggestions as we need this work backed up. We would like to know what everyone else does for students saving work for final cut. Thanks

You could try using a different plug on a different ring main see if this makes a difference

Not really sure where this sholdl go to be honest so thought its best in here. I am looking into a free helpdesk solution for the school ideally that can be integrated to AD but any suggestions are better than none. Somethings thats quick and simple to use and the can ideally support more than one tech/admin user. I have started to look at liberum. Thanks

Liberum Helpdesk - 2011 problem - heads up
LukeC replied to SpuffMonkey's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Which file did you edit and which lines need to be editted thanks -
there is this link too How-To-Mac » Simple joining a Mac to Active Directory 10.6 it snot as detailed as above but shows you some graphics if you click the advance options once you begin to join it to ad you will then find admistrative rights and hoem directory options. With regards to the time on a mac we have had issues with them they tend to speed up and cause problems with user not being able to logon as they are not the same time as the windows network we found that you can type the ip address in of your time server in to the time zone box on the mac
