  1. You may be able to get them to removed the copyrighted material - but you've not really got a leg to stand on about what they're saying unless they're making accusations of illegal conduct etc. If they're just saying "Miss X stinks and is a crap teacher", then it's within their legal rights or free speech. Otherwise sites like RateMyTeacher would have been gone long ago.
  2. Yes please - would certainly make interesting reading. Though as Russ says, you might want to do your best to preserve your anonymity.
  3. Getting the download OK, but anyone having problems getting the key? Mine just keeps throwing up an error when hitting "Get".
  4. HTC Touch HD every time... once you get away from the fanboy-ism of Apple, the HTC is just an all-round better phone. Yes, the iPhone has the better UI, but the HTC, even with Windows, is pretty good now with TouchFLO, also made better because of the screen size - whereas TouchFLO isn't quite so easy to use on the Diamond/Pro.
  5. Sounds like their Data Security guidance: Becta Schools - Leadership and Management - Security - Data handling security guidance for schools
  6. Yes - BackupExec works for D2D2T solutions. We have it here with a NAS & PowerVault autoloader. Basically you use the Policies facility in BackupExec to first copy the data from the servers to be backed up to the NAS server by using a Backup-to-Disk folder. You then set that backup to be duplicated onto the tape when the B2D has completed. Using the proper "Duplicate" system, it means when you have to do a restore, it will restore to the original server, so you don't have to restore from Tape to NAS to Server. We also overwrite the daily NAS backup, just set the job to overwrite the B2D folder instead of append it. Our D2D backups are done in about 10 hours, kick off at 7PM, so are done for the day, the tapes finish about 1PM, but since it's just doing NAS---> SCSI AutoLoader, it has no impact on the network. The other big bonus we've found with this is that any restores you have to do from the previous day, is still on the NAS, so you can do the restore from there, meaning restore times are literally seconds. Useful when the majority of restores are "I've just pressed DELETE and ENTER instead of just ENTER"!
  7. JBOD is just disk spanning - making a group of separate drives appear as one drive. It provides no fault tolerance or performance benefits. RAID, depending on which level, is fault tolerant between different drives/has performance benefits. JBOD is basically pointless.
  8. Sloppy Guiseppe sounds good
  9. Workstation Components is also very useful - though SIMS will run with just the Database Services.
  10. Antec 1200 is pretty good - Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Full Tower Case - No PSU - Ebuyer
  11. Yes - as their department is one of the major users of ICT in the school. I have a similar relationship with the Head of Admin, and the Head of DT. None at all. We have an ICT Steering Group, & the teacher representatives may make suggestions which end up being part of the DevPlan though. The Head of Curic ICT sits on this group. 50/50 - Whole-school ICT plan is put together from interested parties based on T&L needs, as well as practical IT needs. The technical side of it is down to what I "believe is the right direction" in order to achieve those objective. Wrote most of it... so yup!
  12. That's shocking ... actually... it's not that shocking, which is more worrying! Don't agree with a fair bit of what he says in his reply, to much Linux zealousness for my liking, but being as ignorant as that teacher is just wrong. They need to try everything & make their own decision.
  13. Not been so enthralled since the Tom Quinn and Zoe Reynolds days! Better than the last series when they virtually had military coups etc. In hindsight should of seen it coming when he was telling the FSB section chief what I prize he'd be, but still shocked when it happened. Can't believe we've got to wait till the end of 2009!
  14. They don't accept Word documents... but they accept Powerpoints... pillocks.

  17. Our roles will surely change & evolve, but that's the nature of the beast. Even with SaaS, someone needs to support it & it's infrastructure.

  22. The big bonus is having Hyper-V if you go that way. I like the MSFN instructions personally How to convert your Windows Server 2008... to a Workstation!
  23. Yes, SEGfL is Kent, amongst others. Used to call it Seagull in the days before KCN! We've had a 2811 in place for awhile now, with an additional ISA server (...in additional to the WebSense box...) for re-routing web hosting. We also ran out of KCN-assigned IPs some time ago, but were lucky enough that quite a number of nodes don't need Internet access (printers, WAPs, laptops deliberately Internet-less, etc.), so put them on a different scope. Touch-wood, we're OK at the moment. They really should allocate you more if you need it. Talk to Gavin Hutchinson or Marc Turner, they've always got the job done when I've needed something).
