Virtual Server on Static IP... or not...
Diello replied to Diello's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
No bridging or NAT - virtual network isn't connecting to the production network at all. Yup - Subnet mask & IP are all OK. -
Morning all... OK, I'm totally stumped on this one... We use Virtual Server 2005 R2 for our test network (Yes... I know... haven't got around to moving it to VMWare yet!) We're setting up a new Internal Network now to test out a ADMT plan to move to Server 2008. However, the Server 2008 VM refuses point blank to run off a static IP on the VS Internal Network. DHCP is fine, but changing the connection to static and it refuses to make a connection. It's worked fine on 2003 R2 before... so not sure what I'm missing... probably something obvious... Any bright ideas appreciated!! Thanks.

Trainsignal are also very good for video training. Unless you aren't looking to go with W2k8/Vista/Win7 in the foreseeable future, I'd go with the NextGen track. You start off with the MCTS exams (Certified Technology Specialist), then can do the MCITP (Certified IT Professional) exam for Server Admin. An additional MCTS exam, and the Enterprise Administration exam, gets you the "top" MCITP cert. The local uni deal sounds a bit off to me - that money could be better spent getting training materials based around the actual syllabus instead of vaguely in-line. I should be sitting the MCTS:AD exam in the next month or so, and I much prefer the cert set up for NextGen than the older MCSE tracks.

Bursars have no say in e-safety. End of. As for the question - linuxgirlie is your saviour, worth giving her a PM if she doesn't see the thread.

We run our own in-house system as well. We have Microsoft Technet Plus, which comes with 2 complimentary support tickets, and that generally does us perfectly for anything we can't handle. Though it is useful to have a back stop of course. We had similar panic from certain people as well - "what if you quit?, what if you fall under a bus? What if something goes wrong you can't handle?" - and I've always found that argument slightly annoying - What if the Head of History quits? What if the Business Manager quits? What if the catering manager fell under a bus? Well, their deputies would take over, and do the best job they could until a permanent replacement can be found, else the school would need to get in touch with external agencies for support at that time.

Doesn't surprise me in the least - BSF IT companies have been very proactive in avoiding any contact with IT professionals in education at every juncture - least we let the cat out of the bag. Seems to me this is basically a way for them to find out what software they can write-off and not have to support until they can get their own offering in place.

2 for general student use, though these are always paused & students/teachers need to make a convincing case for why they need colour printing. DT & Art each have one of their own, these are locked down to only allow GCSE/AL students in those subjects to print, and only during the appropriate lesson time. We used to have more open colour printing access for students, but the wastage & cost, despite quotas & page restrictions etc, was horrendous, so the Head decided we should reel it in.

Does anyone have some rough pricing on the cost of implementing the SIMS software and SLG please? Already got MOSS and the 2 servers priced up, and we already have the licensing for SQL2k5. Interested in rough costs for: The SIMS.net software itself. The SLG webparts. Capita's price for implementation. Annual support costs (direct from Capita, not LA). ...anything else I've forgotten! We have around 1200 students, 120 staff. Cheers

Have you tried demoting the offending DC via dcpromo, then re-promoting?
-
You didn't happen to have a previous DC called MMSERVER-1 by any chance did you? If so, sound like you didn't properly demote that DC via dcpromo before implementing the new DC. Also try "netdiag /fix"

Glad to have you with us! Congrats all

HT's got a Blackberry - please help
Diello replied to elsiegee40's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
When the Head brought the Orange contract, she should have got it as a data contract. Then you can use BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) to setup a Blackberry email address, then you would need to setup the school email to be forwarded to that address. Information you need to enter on the device should be in the documentation she got with the package, or from Orange CS. Presuming she ordered the correct package of course!! -
Good luck to you Tony - No eulogy better than a superbly pulled off BETT! Your voice of reality & reason, helping us to think outside of our own techie confines, and see the bigger education picture - is a big reason I think EduGeek has been such the success it has. You will be missed as EduAdmin, but very glad you're staying around!

Yes, you can add a CNAME record into DNS for this: Add an alias (CNAME) resource record to a zone: Domain Name System(DNS)

LOL - Sorry, my bad, posting when tired bad idea - Only a demo I'm afraid, you don't get them for free! Just suggesting people take a look, Techie & I did a double-take suddenly seeing FC2 being played. Nothing educational in it, but brilliant!

LOL Hmm... To be banned at next year's BETT: People with suitcases on wheels which trail about 3 feet behind them, and walk at a snails pace. Actually thought one bloke was going to be lynched (I'd of joined in ) as he zig-zagged down an aisle tripping about 5 people up in the process.

Robot is excellent! Couple of people got off train tonight at small Kent station, both with EG lanyards on... was mighty impressed... soon we'll need a secret handshake...!

yTeach are giving away yo-yo's... never seen such a smile on my Techie's face! Lenovo have got some rather nice quality A4 notebooks designed to look like laptops - AND fairly decent mouse mats as well. Quite a few more odd freebies this year than usual. For the gamers - see nvidia on S70 - Farcry2 in 3D with the latest nvidia 3D glasses as shown at CES, pretty darn impressive. Not to mention their "using-GPUs-as-processors" killer rigs.
