Does anyone know wether the school would be breaking any software licensing rule by installing the SmartBoard software onto a students laptop? Currently it is installed on the machines connected to the boards and the teachers laptops only. Cheers.

To give you an idea of what we set our limits to: Staff - No Limit Y7 - 100mb Y8 - 150MB Y9 - 200MB Y10 - 250MB Y11 - 300MB Y12 - 500MB Y13 - 700MB Although we may need to start applying quotas to staff as i have a handful of staff which now have home directories with 30GB + of "stuff" in there! It causes chaos with file sync!

All this freaky weather = bad news. I had a call from my boss last Wednesday to say come into work there are a few things that have got wet! When i arrived this is what i saw: Flooding Pictures

We are experiencing issues once a fortnight for example where out of a class of 30 students there may be 2 of them where their Word document saves to their directory. However the file it saves is only 0kb. When opening the file it loads but is blank - work gone, sorry, do it again time. There are no network issues, I can continuously ping all machines in a room and never experience any dropped pings. The file server which their files resides on is massively underutilized so that isn’t the issue. The file permissions on their directories are ok and as they should be. I am at a loss to know what else to do - has anyone else come across this and found a fix? Any help appreciated.

*** BUMP *** I have been asked by SLT to look into a way of blocking all these swf games they are bringing in on memory stick. Does anyone have any experience of preventing these? Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone done what is mentioned in the previous post and does it work? If so did it have any other impact ?

ISSUE FIXED. had to edit the web chaining rule to include internal IP range and FQDN of web server.

Help please! We have ISA 2006 installed and it functions fine as a proxy. However I want to create a publish rule for our website. The website sits on a server within our network and from the ISA server i can ping the server by name and it resolves fine. However when i try to browse to the website from the ISA itself it is trying to resolve the name through a google search. I have entered the proxy exceptions in I.E. and have got a rule on the ISA server setup for internal / local host to internal/local host everything allow. I have also checked the domains tab for the local conneciton in ISA to check we have the local domain listed. is there anything else i can try as this is starting to "do my head in". Thank you.

Can anyone suggest a good utility that will enable me to carry out a wireless site survey? Ideally it would provide a graphical interface so I can just walk around the school and see what the signal strength is like in each room at a glance. The laptop I am intending on using has an Intel Pro wireless card (3945ABG) - however the app that comes with the card isn’t the best at showing signal strength - it only give a small 5 bar graph that is very slow to update. Duplex printing about halves the print rate so you will probably see about 12ppm in real world printing. Which is still quick enough for the little darlings.

Simple Brother HL-5250DN. No complex buttons or screens for them to mess about with. It also does Duplex saving on paper. High yield toner cartridges lasting 7000 pages (rated) cost £38 so its about the cheapest in class to run too. We have over 70 of them and there more reliable then the teachers themselves.

Can I ask how your trial of MS Forefront went? We are thinking of using this product as a comprehensive virus scanner for SharePoint 07 and Exchange 07 in conjunction with ISA 2006. Seems to be only product which incorporates all AV scanners for these products.

The ran out of disk space problem I have found is down to the setup program pointing to a drive that isn't mapped on your system. E.g. S:\SIMS. When you run the setup program, click the settings button (bottom left) and under 'Workstation' change the drive letter for 'Install SIMS application in the shared directory' to the drive letter of your SIMS drive mapping. This worked for me when I got that error message.

We used Advanced Installer to run the installer in silent mode - with that we then ran a batch file after install to remove the folders from the programs menu. Unfortunatly using Advanced Installer we couldn't get the software to re-package the msi properly to install the codecs - hence the workaround above.

HELP! Does anyone have a working MSI file they have used to deploy the H.264 codec through Active Directory?

I have looked at this and each avi file has a different hash - apart from the 32771 at the end - does this code give it the .avi characteristics? So for example: a4a7834df9c45b5c1a439de452b8dc00:290148616:32771 or b4ed0fcb0170272dd3b33296d986bc32:373203218:32771 are the file hash for two different avi files If so by creating a hash rule for avi ending 32771 accroding to hash = that is no different to preventing .avi using FSRM in R2? Or is it we would have to create a hash rule for each avi that was created which we wanted them to prevent saving to their own H: drive?

But surely they could rename the file to get around this?

Is there a way of preventing users from copying files from a share? Scenario: We have a large share containing video files + audio files. We want to prevent staff from copying files from this location and storing in their H: drives - therefore preserving what space we have left. What we don't want to do is prevent staff from saving certain file extensions to their H: drive using R2 for example. Any advice would be appreciated.

We have DPM07 installed, with the AD schema extension registered enabling end user recovery. on the client machine we have the microsoft client installed (903234) as per their instructions. When we right click a file or folder protected by DPM the previous versions tab is available however when you select it, first of all it takes ages then displays nothing to be able to restore from. I have checked the DPM server = all appears fine there, consistency check is complete and there are recovery points to select from when directly on the server. Any ideas? I cannot find any MS documents anywhere which cover this? Cheers

Several weeks on, new installation of DPM on a new server and same is happening. On our admin file server previous versions works for end users, i.e. me However on teh curriculum file server previous versions tab is blank after taking an age to think about it. Any ideas anyone?
