Hello all, Can anyone suggest any free/cheap software which will do some text to speech for when we have students in exams etc... Thanks in advance!

Can anyone suggest a good application to extract EXE files? This is my scenario: I have downloaded all the Dell drivers i need to inject into SCCM - however they all come from Dell as EXE files. I have dozens which i need to extract and inject. I dont really want to be running each EXE on a machine then trying to locate the files which it extracts. Help!

I have been asked this morning by our Head to look into a solution to prevent access to USB storage devices for staff only. We currently issue all our teaching staff with laptops so a solution has to work on these laptops when they are off the domain and logged on at home for example. Also a solution has to work if a staff member logs onto any one of the student pc's/laptops. At current we are a vanilla 2003 network with all XP clients. During the summer the DC's are to move to 2008 R2 with Windows 7 everywhere. I understand with 2008 R2 you can deny access / install to the GUID that you specify. Unfortunately this only works with 7 clients - is this right? In which case a solution like this won't work for us until September when we return. If anyone could shed any light on what solution they think might be best it would be most appreciated! I don’t have a lot of money to spend on this so preferably the cheaper the better - however it needs to do the job. We have in the region of 1050 clients so paying for software/clients could get expensive.

I too am having the same issue - does anyone know how to resolve this rather annoying error?!

Is there anything else that has come along since the last post that would be worth while including in a master image file for all Windows 7 machines?

I have just setup App-V with Windows 7. Nothing really to tell = there are no tips/tricks to let on about. The install and setup all went smoothly as per instructions. Works a treat, however if you get Promissor virtualized - please let me know how you managed it!

But JJonas you can enter BIOS passwords on PC's but if you know what your doing you can get round those!

I ain't paying £195 for some epson engineer to connect a USB cable for 2 mins! The bulb will be removed and the projector launched hard into the skip i think then!

I thought some guru on here may be able to shed some light on this one. I have an Epson EB-X6 which has had the code entered incorrectly more than 30 times by a member of staff!!!! Now it is "hard locked" according to Epson. So I have spoken to Epson and given them serial number, address etc and now Epson want £195 to take it away and sort it out!!! Surely someone out there knows how to resolve this without having to pay £195 for the privildge! Damn thing is less than a year old - probably only has about 400 lamp hours! Has anyone had this before and managed to sort it? Your help grately appreciated!

I am after the answers to a couple of questions and see what people suggest. I currently have 2007 installed - if I was to upgrade to 2010 would I need to: Change any of my publish rules on ISA 2006? Upgrade my DC's from 2003 to 2008? Or can I just update my schema extensions in 2003? Has anyone gone through this same process? If so how did they find it? Any potential pitfalls to be aware of? I am planning on creating a new VM to house EX2010 - this would be for 1800 students and 200 staff. What would people recommend for RAM and CPU requirements?

Can i ask of the place? As i currently have a 3G sat on my desk which looks like its been hit with a hammer - all broken glass!

Does anyone know what would be the best implementation of a new file server based upon ESX 3.5 using Server 2008 Datacenter R2? I have created the virtual server which is all well and good - I know 2008 R2 isnt a supported OS yet however this is just for testing purposes at the moment and works perfectly well without VMWare tools installed. The question is when i created the VM i gave it a 40GB C: partition. When i come to add an additional virtual disk - i get presented with "Create a new virtual disk" or "Raw Device Mappings". Has anyone tried out both and found any differences in speed between the two? My existing file servers are based upon "new virtual disk" which resides inside the VM - these have worked well for me in the past however i want to make sure if i am re-designing the system i get the best out of it. The VM's run on IBM x2650 hosts with FC to IBM DS3400 (48 x 300GB 15k SAS) Thanks.

Can anyone please tell me how i would enable all ActiveX controls through GPO? My machines have IE8. There are 2 required ActiveX controls which the new ECDL testing requires: "Windows Media Player Extension" + "Authorware Web Player ActiveX Control". Both these 2 plugins are on the machine however IE8 is prompting the user everytime to run the controls and for some staff to tell students how to do this is asking a little too much.... Thanks

Dont suppose anyone has FMS, System manager etc working yet within Windows 7 32bit without using the virtual XP mode?

SAN setup - Dual fiber switches + 2 SANs
Paid_Peanuts replied to Paid_Peanuts's topic in How do you do....it?
I haven't moved to vSphere yet as I figure 3.5 is working perfectly for me so why mess with it?! vSphere isn't really going to give me anything new apart from possibly create problems for now. -
SAN setup - Dual fiber switches + 2 SANs
Paid_Peanuts replied to Paid_Peanuts's topic in How do you do....it?
Yeah i have 4 ESX servers - all of which have 2 single port HBAs. 1 HBA to 1 fiber switch, the other HBA connection to the second fiber switch. The DS3400 i have both have dual controllers. Therefore Controller A on DS340_1 has a connection to Fiber Switch (FS) 1. DS3400_2 to FS2. the repeat of that for controller B. -
I have had for a while a IBM DS3400 configured via Fiber through 2 Brocade fiber switches. Straight forward enough: Connect Fiber Create an ALIAS Create a ZONE and add the ALIAS's you need to the ZONE add all ZONEs to the ZONE CONFIG (all ZONES member of the one ZONE CONFIG) So therefore i have "ESX1" ZONE which has the Alias's for ESX1 HBA1 + DS3400_Cont1 + DS3400_Cont2. The question is when i add an additional DS3400 dual controller into my environment - do i add the new SAN Alias's to the existing ZONEs in the Brocade config. OR do i create new ZONEs for example: "ESX1_SAN2" : ESX1 HBA + DS3400_2_cont1 + DS3400_2_cont2 and do this for all connections - basically creating a duplicate ZONEs apart from they contain the controllers ALIASs for the second SAN and the HBA for the ESX host? Hope this makes sense - it is very difficult to explain.

When it comes to Windows 7 is there any point installing the 64bit version? I dont run many things other than the usual Office 2007 suite, the usual MMC consoles etc.
