Authenticated proxies and the iPad raise several challenges, the biggest being that many apps don't observe the iPad's system settings for proxies and try to connect straight out to the Internet. PAC files are supported within iOS and may help in your scenario. We are hoping for proxy support for MDM services (such as Lion server) to come in iOS 5 (fingers crossed!) My guess would be that a netrestore set was created using System Image Utility on the server using the server's HD as the source and not a client Mac's HD

Quick answer Clear out any old iPad backups from iTunes from within iTunes preference. Setup your master iPad and then make a backup of it in iTunes. Turn off auto sync of devices in iTunes's preferences. Plug in in subsequent iPads and restore from backup made above

Try unplugging the iMac's power cable from the iMac and pressing the power button in for about 10 seconds. Then plug in the power and try pressing the power button to boot the Mac. This is an SMC (system management controller) reset and often fixes this issue.

Install WorkGroup Manager on any Mac with Logic installed (it can be handy to put this and other admin tools in the dock of any local admin accounts on the Macs for future administration/troubleshooting) and add this to the Open Directory preferences from there. Apply this to a user/computer group as required.

Just be careful as I recall the the iMacs had 2 different RAM slots, one you could get to easily(that took laptop size memory) and another that required taking the main board out (took the larger style memory chips)...

Hi, As Tallwood_6 mentions, the iPad can only interface with an IWB to output its display and as such there would be no reason to connect the iPad via USB to the IWB as I am unaware that the pens used with an IWB can control an iPad. Even if it could, the difference in finesse between an IWB and the multi touch on an iPad would quickly show. The traditional configuration of an IWB and a connected PC is a relatively expensive and '1 trick pony' solution. An iPad connected to a projector running any one of the drawing (Penultimate, SketchBook Pro etc), presentation (Keynote etc) and classroom voting and interaction apps (iResponse etc) offers a much more flexible setup. Not to mention much the huge number of free apps available. With the use of AirDisplay and a Mac the iPad can be used as a wireless touchscreen display for the Mac (running which ever software under which ever OS you would like) that can be passed around the class for a personalised experience for students. This has huge benefits for those students with impairments that affect their involvement with an IWB led lesson. I can strongly recommend the excellent article written by Fraser Speirs - Fraser Speirs - Blog - iPad as Digital*Whiteboard We (as Apple Education specialists) spend a lot of time with schools helping them understand the benefits of the iPad and how it differs from laptops/netbooks. Sure, there are things that an iPad can’t do compared to these traditional devices, however the compelling discussion is around the genuinely unique benefits the iPad (and I'm sure tablets from other manufacturers once they come to maturity) offers students and teachers. Hi Htech, what is your domain name? If it is a .local you may get sporadic login success.

There is a strange "phenomenon" where when binding a Mac with a hostname with a "-" in it, the AD plugin will often replace this with a "_". It is very strange and if not spotted a "changeip -hostname" should fix it retrospectively however this is not a perfect fix.

What does the search policy say in Directory Utility? Is Active Directory above LDAPv3 (Open directory)?

Does Safari work for a local or admin user? One thing I can think of is that Firefox uses its own proxy settings rather that those in System Preferences. Otherwise have a look in the logs within Console and search for "Safari"; this may shed some light on what is failing.
