  1. Our students have 200MB each, staff have a 100MB more, some staff which require more have unlimited. We have a NAS which has areas for both students and staff we asl for any audio and video resources to be placed on. Yes its very restrictive and not something put in place by myself.
  2. All students are using a single mandatory profile with a single mandatory normal.dotm read only template which did have problems last year but but would say normal.dotm is in use when a user tryed to save. Having recreated the normal.dot template this problem has gone but it may be related still. Is it bad practice to have the template setup this way?
  3. Just found an old 2950 I may be able to acquire for personal use here
  4. Well guys and girls Im not really sure where to start on this one. We have an annoying problem which seems intermittent, when a pupil creates a NEW word document by simply opening word, they begin to write their work in this document then select save or save as, type in a new title for the document that isn't in use then select ok...word will moan the document name is already in use....ITS NOT. The word does however save still Any help would be greatly appreciated I have an ICT teacher moaning at me right now as I had left when she came to tell me this problem Friday, over half an hour after i'm due to leave
  5. After the recent home lab HP microserver thread I didnt want to hijack too much so i've made this new thread, what would people recommend as a basic setup for testing and learning at home. My current school may be a little behind the times and the way our budget is going we won't be going for the virtual setup this year either, i'd like to begin teaching myself abit about the likes of Hyper-v and 08r2 server setup myself having only worked in an already setup and configured network environment. Having free roam to test and try things out at home till my heart content im sure will greatly benefit myself and my work as a result but trying not to pick up any bad habits Would anyone be able to recommend a relatively cheap home setup or maybe even some setups people currently have.
  6. Smart need to incorp this app into their boards
  7. Simply mounting, copying the large library of folders over then importing to Itunes worked fine thanks
  8. Yep Ive been able to get those files off it, wasnt aware they could be important again via itunes, I will give this a go thanks!
  9. same username as here, downloaded it last night dam its addictive! Cant draw to save my life...if that day ever comes. On my Iphone, would be great on an Ipad yet another tempting reason
  10. We have an IPod classic 80GB used by a member of staff here which contains a large amount of songs from CDs and work recordings of students so im told, today it was brought to my office, the first time i'd seen it actually with a frozen screen saying "ok to disconnect". I restarted the IPod by toggling ther hold switch then holding the Menu+Select down as it had frozen. Now it will not turn on and won't charge however if you connect it to a computer with Itunes you are given the option to enter recovery mode and restore the IPod to repair it. Restoring will wipe all data off the IPod and the member of staff has said they have no backups of most the audio as it wasn't purchased with ITunes (im yet to question where from) Im not holding my hopes out but is there a way to recover data similar to a corrupt or formatted memory card?
  11. It only takes one eccentric person to make this turn violent! Might give it a go in full army gear, have I watched too many films and played too much fallout? At least they provide you with airsoft
  12. Took the first exam before getting my current and first IT job, another one here for Professor Messer and the Mike Meyers book. Both great resources and all you need plus a little first hand experience . Didn't take the 220-702 as I passed the 701 a week before getting my job then had too much going on to revise and book that. Been meaning to get it booked recently and look at N+
  13. If your after a unique cardio exercise or need the encouragement for that last mile on your run why not try this crazy idea. Run away from zombies using GPRS or the accelerometer completing missions as you go mixed in with your favourite music on your IPhone. I've purchased the app and shall try it later tonight, sounds amusing and is presented nicely but abit gimmicky https://www.zombiesrungame.com/
  14. Medium sized secondary school around here, 800-900 pupils, 90-100 staff, all classrooms have projectors and tutor workstations including trolley units for the sports hall and another in the gym for rowing machine software. About 18 IWB's, 7x laptop trolleys 15 per set, dozen staff laptops, 4 ICT suites with 30 computers in each, other devices such as I-Pads, cameras, audio equipment, printers, 4 servers and over 350 computers in total + other devices, anything with a plug socket comes to mind sometimes or even something in a throwing distance of a computer should be under my watch. Had a phone call earlier that a table leg had broke one of the in one of our largest computer room with 30 computers around the edge and several normal tables in the middle so it doubles as a normal classroom. IWB can be fairly time consuming with new software updates messing up settings and auto detection I have found on newer images but most stuff runs nicely. Curric DC due for renewal this summer plans still uncertain but is being worked on by the network manager. The number of devices is always increasing but pretty much all switchs are full, 35 laptops added in the last 6 months and requests from most departments for more desktops. 37 hours per week term time + 2 weeks
  15. Even at their peak they never delivered on their first to play promises on my pre-orders. Shopto.net hands down is my place for pre-orders often receiving them 2 days before official release and good prices. My little brother who is only 16 didn't know better and pre-ordered Fifa street at GAME, then the week before release is told he won't be getting a copy from GAME as EA wont stock them passing the blame to EA which we all know EA have good reason for this! Pre-ordered on shopto less than a week before release and received 2 days before official release plus it worked out £5 less than GAME. EA also put a notice on Fifa 12 telling those who pre-ordered from GAME to get the game from shopto, amazing or other online retailers. NOOOOOOOOO they love their COD I traded it back in later that week on their only decent offers get 'X' game for £5 when trading any of the following games... This case was trade MW3 in and get Battlefield 3 for £5, deal! I also had a discussion related to Batman arkham city when the staff member wanted me to purchase the guide for the game I then explained I didnt see the need as Id rather enjoy the game completing it on my own. He then trys to tell me I should trade it in and get the special edition from them because it has BONUS SKINS!!! Oh S##T how much I want that bonus texture for my character, yea sure i'll give you my hard earned cash for that. I hate pre-order DLC bonus content when its worth while (not very often) but the whole texture/skin craze sucks. They even had a guide just about how to get the DLC textures! Just looked on their site they are now taking pre-ordereds for the £359 star wars console and Diablo 3 £69.99, stop promoting these expensive packs so much they won't sell that well just get average game prices down!
  16. The amount of times I went into game and actually argued with staff when they tryed to sell me a game I knew I didn't like often completely unrelated to my purchase. Up-sale ahoy in their eyes, the last time being COD:MW3 with the clerk trying to sell me the special edition sets and Xbox live points to purchase COD ELITE! He goes on to tell me what elite was... I explained I knew I've worked for a competitive computer game retailer before and play my fair share of games along with keeping up to date with new games and deals, this package is not something that interested me, I then explained how my expectations were low for MW3 but I was only getting it to play multilayer with my mates. The clerk did not like this, being either a huge fanboy of the series or receiving commission he began to get rather annoyed saying nothing beats it its the best game out there. Last purchase from there! I loved walking into woolworths asking how much for the till and finding out it was £80...not that I wanted or needed one. However the large red bull can shaped and themed freezer for £50 was tempting for my bedroom or even the office now!
  17. Our toshiba tecra A11 laptops have been in use for some time and on the rare occasion have had problems with the TrueSuite fingerprint software appearing then locking up the computer. The laptops came with 7 on but have been downgraded to XP. The fingerprint software appears to only be supported in 7 and simply locks up in XP, however I have been unable to remove it as removing the software also removes the fingerprint drivers then every time a user logs into the machine they are prompted to install the fingerprint scanner drivers even when the device is disabled. Even stranger today I have had two complaints about the laptops from teachers, when a student has tryed to log into yacapaca.com or the schools gateway the fingerprint software loads up then locks the laptop completely. Ideally id be able to install drivers for the scanner without the software and just disable the device but I cannot find them from what appears to be a reliable source, the device is an AuthenTec Inc AES 1660 and the laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A11-17C. Edit: Having looked around some more I have found drivers for the AES1660 from Sonys laptop range and as I expected they all require vista or 7. I have also tryed disabling the TrueSuiteService but still get the pop-up and crashing. What would be the best workaround to compeltely disable this device remove software and prevent any prompts for users to install of setup?
  18. Does anyone have any advice for offline email setup in exams? We have a functional skills exam later this week which users are required to research using the internet for the first x amount of minutes, we will use lanschool to block all internet access once the time is up however they require offline emails after this. Does anyone have any recommended configurations possibly for outlook? We are using a single mandatory profile for all functional skill accounts at the moment.
  19. Dont know if they have any plans, its down to reliability and support I'd expect, the Chrome frame works fine here in IE!
  20. Tell a lie looking at the Ccleaner network trial defraggle is built into the PRO edition for network use! Not cheap tho, over $2000 for 100+ computers
  21. Yep I was aware that this would be a big nono just wanted to check I was covered if I used the OEM license on other of that OEM workstation without changing the license, as its only a small batch I dont mind manually changing it. We don't currently have a full volume license for windows 7 and as this case was only a few laptops which will be used by staff off the network I'm using them as a 'breaking in' to 7 experience for staff before a large roll-out, they really don't like change! Previous pre-installed OEM 7 machines I have just used a volume license XP image to downgrade, server 2008R2 in the summer due so we shall be pushing to 7 more then, Im using the only win7 curric computer here at the moment with my tech account working fine but I had problems with student logon creation and ended up leaving them with their XP
  22. Thanks alot works perfect This will do for now, I'll create the image using a volume license once we have one for 7, we have plenty of 7 OEM licensed computers but most are using an XP vol license at the moment
  23. That was the plan, can I change the activated OEM key on a laptop after it has been imaged? I'm not sure how i'd do this as i've only ever previously used images on XP and our volume license
  24. I have a batch of new windows 7 laptops which need settings up, all come from Toshiba with windows 7 pro however I want to image out the same software and setup to all machines, would I be covered to setup 1 machine as required then create a ghost image and deploy to the other laptops? Or is licensing not this simple? It may be i'm going the wrong way about this even and should be using something other than ghost, any advice would be great. Thanks
  25. I know its easy to setup mapped drives, we currently still use a logon script, would mapping improve logon times?
