Good morning I hope I can explain this clearly: Sometimes if a user is sent an e-mail containing an attached or shared file from OneDrive or SharePoint they are unable to open it as the following error occurs: user@school1... cannot be found in the school2-my.sharepoint.com directory The reason I write school1 and school2 is because this is occurring between schools in our group, so in this example the message with the file is being sent from one of our primaries to one of our secondary schools where the recipient gets the error above. I welcome any suggestions as to where I should begin. Thank you

Apologies for the continued questions but I'm not really getting anywhere with this: Am I missing a significance\relationship to their being a virtual machine with the image on and the image in WDS? The Image Manager didn't make a lot of sense to me, I got it installed on the server and pointed it at the .wim only for it to error out as the application was 64 bit and the image 32 bit, when trying to install the 32 bit Image Manager it complained because the server is 64 bit. So I installed the image manager on my PC and took a copy of the .wim and unattended files but when using them get an error about it being unable to find a catalogue file (I have run a search on the server for this but can only find one related to Windows 8.1). Image Manager then asks if I would like to create a catalogue file to which I said yes but having done this it reported a lot of errors which I'm guessing are misleading as it's not looking at the correct catalogue file to begin with.

I am now uncertain which is worse, the imaging not working or the fact that I'm so out of touch I had to look up what IIRC means. Anyway yes we have HyperV and I can see a machine called Imaging Test which looks likely as you put it. I'm just downloading and installing the Windows System Imaging Manager.

Hello I'm not sure how the original image was made because the original staff who had the knowledge on it were gone before I even started. I have found the location of the unattended XMLs for the images but wouldn't be sure of what I'm looking for. Thank you

Hello I was trying to copy what looked like the template that had been left before me so I added a new driver group called HP Elite 8300 and then added the graphics, storage\hard drive, and NIC drivers to it. I then added these drivers to the boot image. None of the existing driver groups had filters applied but I have now added one for make (HP) and model (Elite 8300) to the HP Elite 8300 group. Interestingly there does appear to be another driver group called Elite 8300 with just one driver in it but I'm not sure what this would have been used for historically as we don't have any of those until now.

Good morning Having recently started at a new site I have been tasked with using an existing WDS setup to deploy an existing image to new hardware. Nobody was able to tell me much about how successful this may have been in the past and I'm wondering if it has ever worked in light of this problem: If I PXE boot the new PCs or any for that matter WDS loads the .wim file without any errors and the Windows installation completes without any errors until we get to the 'Starting Windows' page and then it just crashes and loops round into the startup options page (the one with the 'Start Windows normally, Safe Mode, Last known good configuration' options). I've tried all of these with no success. All I can add is that this is Win 7 32bit and the .wim in question has other images associated with it which do work. I've tried adding relevant driver packages to WDS and the boot image so any other advice would be welcome. Thank you

You're right, there is a location for the Taskbar somewhere in that region and when other users logon there is a shortcut for File Explorer. I have tried copying and pasting the File Explorer shortcut to that location for the affected account but it made no difference, I have tried changing anything I can think of AD wise such as moving the user into another OU and playing about with group memberships but to no avail. I even pinned the File Explorer shortcut to the Taskbar for that user on one machine but at next login you can see it gets deleted, event viewer throws up a couple of errors regarding folder redirection.

Good afternoon I wonder if anybody has come across this same problem whereby a user login\profile does not display a File Explorer icon in the Taskbar on any given device running Windows 10 (anniversary) when other accounts do. I just thought it would be user thing but created a new account which still had the same problem so that kind of suggests otherwise but as far as I know we don't have anything governing or dictating the appearance of the icon. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you

Hello This may be a totally nonsensical request but during our most recent iPad training sessions the possibility of capturing a PowerPoint with all existing transitions\animations remaining as they are was discussed. The idea being that a file would be created as an exact carbon copy of the presentation that could then be imported into other apps to make use of the tools there. Apparently similar tools exist but simply capture snapshots of each slide with all the animations already in place. Thank you for any advice you may be able to give.

Good evening, I've been meaning to return to this post for a while but got carried away with testing so the findings below came prior to reading your response but we have found very similar results to what you describe. It's interesting you mention LDAP as we are not using it in this way, Casper knows nothing of our student users. We only have it setup currently in that all of the mobile device names are named after the student who has the iPad and we did this manually. We got through the same enabling of ASM in Casper exactly as you did and set the matching criteria as you have based on a video we watched which implied this was correct. We were unaware that the source system identifier is the Person_ID so thanks for pointing that out. We just made up some data to fill out the CSVs at first just to see if we could get a successful import into ASM (1 teacher, 1 class, 1 student). Following this we found the same information you have provided on importing the users and found the classes import follows a similar procedure. It was at this point that we started looking into how to get the Classroom app working, this apparently requires the EDU profile to be installed from Casper onto the teacher and student iPads but our reading told us that this requires each device to be specifically assigned to a user (this is the teacher or student account that Casper sees imported from ASM). So we got this working in the case of our 1 teacher, 1 student test and sure enough the Classroom app on the teacher iPad could see and control the student ipad. Our issue with this is having to go through all 800 or so of our devices and assigning them to the individual teacher of student, I have enquired with JAMF about the automation of this bit but it doesn't seem possible yet. Do you think if we switched to using LDAP and imported the users linked to existing users this might overcome the problem? On a side note we use iSAMS as an MIS and I did enquire with them about their plans to become compliant with ASM to which they only said they have enquired with Apple. Look forward to any response you might have.

Hello I'm just after any information anybody may have regarding ASM and MDM systems. We use Casper to manage our iPads here and are in the early stages of investigating the use of Apple School Manager. Really we are trying to understand the connection\link (if any) between Casper and ASM. We have read that Apple School Manager won't work without being configured on a MDM server such as Casper and believe we have put the right settings in place for this but can't tell if all the required data should be uploaded to ASM directly or Casper. There are a lot of pointers towards the whole thing only being effective in a Shared iPad environment but we have a 1:1 deployment. Obviously with Apple School Manager still being so new we wonder if it's best to just wait until our MIS is supported rather than mess about with all the CSVs that the ASM Setup Assistant provides. Hello I always used to try and keep the rooms neat and tidy as to my mind the equipment would be respected more if it was presented well. Other than that one of the best PCs I've ever worked with is the RM One with it's closed casing at the back, this at least prevented unplugging.

Hello We have come across a strange problem whereby certain Win 10 PCs are now missing the local remote desktop users group. This has obviously caused an issue with setting up remote access as the group is not there on the remote PC to add the user too. So far research has suggested the way around this is a complete re-build but the problem has occurred on relatively new machines and we would like to avoid this if at all possible. The only cause we can possibly think of is that when the now problematic PCs were upgraded from Win 7 or 8 we had a bad build of or corrupt media for Win 10. Has anyone else come across this problem or has anybody got any suggestions on how to get the group back? Thank you

Hello Yeah I don't work in a school currently but have done for years up until recently so think that gives me the right to still seek help here : ) So it's just business licensing and I don't believe we a KMS implemented anywhere. The main concern is that with the manual upgrade from 7 to 10 it obviously detects that this is allowed but what happens when using WDS to push Win 10 to a Win 7 PC? If it treats it as a new install then I imagine a Win 10 license would be required. Thank you

Hello This is more of an information seeking post than anything. I'm hoping somebody out there can explain the implications of using WDS to deploy Win 10 in relation to licensing and I have the following questions: 1. Can WDS deploy Win 10 to PCs running Win 7? At the moment we have to upgrade our Win 7 PCs using the Win 10 Media Creation tool and then run a new flat install of Win 10, how is this affected by using WDS? 2. With Dell do you have to use their branded media license? Will using WDS to deploy Win 10 strip this information out? How do you put it back if it does? Any help would be good, thank you in advance.

Hello We never used iPads with the students in my last school but a few of the teaching staff had them and one of the most useful things we implemented was the SIMS Teacher app as it integrated with Office 365 to which we had access through our licensing. Other than that staff were very much left to explore apps and I know the Maths and Food Technology departments found a lot of useful apps.

Hello Over most my time in education IT support I've used a spreadsheet to keep track of jobs. I would say it's quite well developed with the ability to set a tick or cross next to each job and a total count of open and overall jobs. There are also columns for the name of the person experiencing the fault, the nature of the fault, location, time, date and notes on the resolution. Obviously there is nothing automated about this and you have to fill it in yourself but I'm pretty sure I have a blank copy somewhere if you would like to see it. On another occasion a school I worked at had Sitehelpdesk which does offer a client part: Service Desk Software, Web based Help Desk Software with ITIL features

Hello I spent quite some time looking in to this at the last school I worked in, the Head wanted it for all teacher laptops so I started a thread on here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/learning-network-manager/138682-configuring-offline-files.html The advice was great and got it working to a certain extent although not perfectly but I put that down to my own understanding. If I had my chance again I would investigate setting up a VPN and remote desktop connection.

Hello Does Discover work when it's launched by itself? (not from within SIMS). The only problem I ever had with Discover was the need to push out the deployment twice before a PC would pick it up (Start Menu>SIMS Applications>Discover)

Hello Does anybody have calling from Outlook (2013) successfully working? All of our contacts have a number but when we try and call there is a 'No Microsoft Telephony Services Installed' error message. Every contact has the phone symbol greyed out as well. We use our phone system (NEC SV9100) extensively and it's all linked into desktop software (MyCalls Desktop) which provides phone control. We thought perhaps calling from Outlook might be linked to this somehow but it seems not. We also don't see a 'Telephony' option in the MMC console snap-in, could this be linked to the CTI driver? Thank you

Hello I have already posted this to another part of the forum but now realise this might be a better place for it. When we purchase a new Office subscription we register it online and download it, to save creating a new account every time we have several Office installs\subscriptions registered to the same account but it gets a bit confusing on re-installs of the same product because we only see a time and date. There is no additional information relating to the PC or anything. Does this sound correct or is there a way of getting it when needed? Thank you
