Okay the issue is definitely permissions based but I just can't figure out what I'm missing in my setup compared to the previous IT Network Manager: Previous setup = Year2021 folder with Year2021 security group that has Special Permissions on This Folder Only > Users then have special permissions on their individual folders that appear to be inherited from Year2021 folder (I don't understand this bit) My setup = Year2022 folder with Year2022 security group that has same Special Permissions on This Folder Only > Then it all seems to fall apart because I can't get inherited permissions from Year2022 folder for individual users on their folders and even when set to full control the mapping still doesn't work Maybe the script I'm using is doing something weird because when I manually create the user folder and assign full control to the user on their folder the mapping works but I can't see how this is any different because all the script does is create the folder and assign full control to the user on their folder.

InTune App Deployment - Python - User Install Behaviour
Bankesy replied to Bankesy's topic in Cloud Services
I fixed it, turns out in the system context I had an incorrect path for the detection rule. Not realising that "python-3.10.5-amd64.exe /quiet" puts the files in a different place to the whole install command above. I think I also misunderstood what the file detection rule is there for, in my mind it was saying "file exists so don't deploy again" when actually I gather it looks at the file detection path post deployment to report a successful install. That would explain why using ""python-3.10.5-amd64.exe /quiet" was installing the app but throwing a failure error because the command does actually work but puts the files somewhere different to where the detection rule is looking. Thanks for your help. -
InTune App Deployment - Python - User Install Behaviour
Bankesy replied to Bankesy's topic in Cloud Services
@DalekSec Interesting, when I deploy it as Win32 system context I get the "Cannot find the path specified" error in InTune. I wonder if I've got something wrong in the rest of the setup like the uninstall command or the detection rule, would you be happy to share how you configured these parts? Thank you -
Good afternoon @Steve21 I see quite a few different errors in the event log but I don't think any of them are to do with the home drive not being mapped: There's an error regarding an unmarshaling policy An error regarding Documents redirection and how a parent can't redirect into a child so I've probably done something wrong in the policy for that And then some errors about bitsperf.dll and sysmain.dll Thanks

InTune App Deployment - Python - User Install Behaviour
Bankesy replied to Bankesy's topic in Cloud Services
Good afternoon, That's the install command you use for Python 3.10.5 in InTune as a Win32 app for a 'User' context deployment? I'm sure I tried that but will look again, I obviously recognise that command from their documentation and from when I've deployed in the past using MDT. Thanks -
Good morning, Hopefully I'm just missing something really obvious with this one but when creating new users in Active Directory and setting the home folder it is not getting mapped to the account at logon. Being new to my current environment I tried to setup the folders and shares for new users using the same method (DFS Management) that they have always used here but I'm not totally familiar with this idea so maybe I've done something wrong. Hard to tell what it could be though as by comparison I can't see any difference between what I've done and the settings\setups before me. I don't think it's a permissions issue as upon testing I can browse to the home holders as the correct users and the policy for redirection seems to work but the drive just doesn't appear. There is a long and complicated logon script in play but from what I can tell it isn't doing anything regarding home folder mappings, just shared drive stuff I think. All ideas welcome. Thanks

Good morning, Hoping somebody can point out to me where I'm going wrong here regarding the deployment of Python 3.10.5 via InTune. After reading another forum post elsewhere I've got as far as setting up the deployment as a Win32 app in InTune using the 'User' context, at first AppLocker was preventing the install from taking place but I've got over this hurdle only to find that when users log in and InTune does it's thing they are presented with a UAC prompt for admin credentials to finish the install. I'm assuming there is a setting I'm missing somewhere in InTune to prevent this? I've tried deploying in the 'System' context but InTune doesn't appear to like that for Python and just complains that it cannot find the path specified even though all the other settings remain the same as the 'successful' user context deployment. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thanks, that's the article VMWare support sent over but I was just curious to see what other people are doing. I'm going to give it a go and see what happens.

Good morning, Very new to my current role and this VMWare environment and was just wondering if anybody had any advice or guidance when it comes to backing up the ESXI hosts configuration please? As far as I can tell this has never been done here and I have no experience in doing so, I've reached out to VMWare support but hoping somebody can explain best practice to me in a different way that I might understand. Thanks

Good afternoon Hoping somebody can get me out of this one, while troubleshooting an entirely different issue I have somehow (not concentrating) managed to apply the TLSCertificateName to my outbound connector using Exchange PowerShell and now I cannot seem to remove it...HELP! Thanks

Good afternoon, That sounds promising if you're happy to share. Thanks

Good evening, Thanks for coming back to me, I didn't even think about InTune and this organisation is already using that to an extent. I think I know who supplied our current Macs but suspect they will not be enrolled in DEP as it seems like they were previously using Munki but I guess I can still get them enrolled and move them over to InTune. Thanks again

Good afternoon, Just wondering if anybody has any general advice regarding management of Mac devices in their educational setting, I'm pretty new to my current environment and don't have any experience with managing Macs. This particular organisation has Munki but can't even access that at the moment due to other reasons. Thank you

The answer was in event viewer as you suggested, turns out it was a permissions error on a specific folder
-
Thanks for this, just been trying to run the Get-SyncUserStatus -User "<>" -SyncShare "<>" commands in PowerShell and oddly the command completes but I don't get any results or output on screen. I'll check the event viewer on the device when it's next on site and I've got the commands for resetting so I'll give that a go if I need to.

Good afternoon Hoping somebody can help me here as I have not long joined an environment utilising InTune having never used it myself before and I'm just struggling to understand it in general. There appears to be a general issue on client devices with certain apps not running, just kicking back a 'restricted by administrator' error but I think this has something to do with them switching from AppV to InTune? Oddly on top of that even installing apps locally as an admin still can't be run by end users when they log on. But anyway just looking at InTune I'm not making much sense of the device install status for apps, for example for any given app I may see a client listed multiple times with different users and all reporting an installed status yet the app won't be there on the PC. It's difficult to tell if these apps are being installed by device or user...why the multiple entries? Does anybody have any advice please? Thanks

Good afternoon Hoping somebody can help me here as I have not long joined an environment with Workfolders in place having never used them before and I am facing an issue whereby for one particular user what they see in their Workfolders doesn't match what's in their home directory but only when they log on to a device other than their PC. So on the PC they use everyday everything is fine (Workfolders matches home directory) but on their own laptop or any other the two don't match?

Good morning I wonder if anybody can help me please, new to my role here and learnt that as part of the admissions process the school sends thousands of parent e-mail addresses inviting their child in for a test. The e-mail addresses are in a CSV and the admissions officer then runs a mail merge to create the letter that gets sent as an attachment. Evidently the guy before me had a script that did this, as in it would send the e-mail from 'admissions@' to the first 50 addresses in the CSV then wait 'x' amount of time before sending to the next 50 and so on until finished. I assume it was being done this way to prevent the message being treated as spam and blocked. Anyway point is I can't find this script that was being used and can't find anything particularly useful online so was hoping somebody here would have some ideas. Thanks in advance, it's an on premise Exchange 2019 environment if that helps.

@mavhc @LeMarchand Thank you both for your help yesterday, I don't suppose either of you have any advice regarding the silent deployment of Blender as well please? USSF doesn't suggest anything.

Good evening all In one of our primary schools the Lead Practitioner for ICT has put together a list of software required for the scheme of work, one of these is JellyCam. I can't find a source for this other than software.informer but the links on there just lead to inappropriate material. Does anybody have a legitimate source or a suitable alternative? Thank you

Good morning Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction here: Having deleted a user from our on premise AD it came to light he had been saving work to his OneDrive which I had not copied out prior to deleting the account. Now I can see see his account in deleted users under the O365 admin centre and the option to restore it. However, having never restored an account this way I am uncertain as to what will happen. The associated e-mail address is now being used as an alias of his new account so I don't want that to break and I'm not even sure if restoring the account will do anything to enable OneDrive access and get the missing files. On a slightly separate note, I exported a .pst of his old account prior to deletion but when importing it there are roughly 10 days worth of e-mails missing. If anybody has any ideas on any of the above I would be grateful. Thank you

Good morning Not really an educational software specific query but wasn't sure where else to post. I'm looking for some advice as to how others may deal with visual impairment requirements for students such as an enlarged applications, mouse cursor, desktop etc. It seems difficult to implement this for one student who may be using different PCs all the time and won't have access to change any settings. Thank you

So I've now narrowed this down to being folder redirection GPOs not working and user profiles being stuck looking at the old servers which were switched off. Does anybody have any tips apart from deleting user profiles? Thank you
