Hi all Is anyone out there managing Mac OS in intune? we are just looking into it with the idea we could replace JAMF School in the summer. intune is a new thing for us so we are looking at many fronts at the same time. I appreciate that intune wont give all of the functionality the JAMF we don't really utilise much of the Education stuff in our context. we bind our macs to AD, mount a share authenticated when a users logs on and distribute apps etc. We want to be able to log on with AD credentials and work from there. I'm particularly interested in how people set the AD bind and login screens? Any help appreciated Steve

Hi New to Mosyle (not to Macs have used JAMF Pro and JAMF School before) We have a room of 32 Macs in Music room that are attached to AD, we want to push a networked printer to them for students to use. For some reason the printer set up in Mosyle doesn't appear in the Printers and Scanners pane in System Settings. Cant find much in the way of guides/ support in Mosyle, anyone had experience of doing this and making it work? Thanks in advance Steve

Hi All We have one pupil that we need to lock right down, we would block internet use entirely but its not practical as many of his classes use web based revision websites. We have both Smoothwall and IMPERO but was wondering if the great and good out there might share an outline of how you might achieve this? It cant rely on teaching staff to switch on / off internet in IMPERO as it needs to be permanent wit the ability to add websites to a whitelist? any ideas? Cheers Steve

We use the above scheme as well, has worked well for us now on our third printer over something like 6 years Steve

well i worked with Exams and IT services to find a solution for this situation, we removed all of the apps from the iPad apart from the ones needed for the exam, I was able to download the paper before the actual exam and turned off wifi. I was a bit of a bodge if I'm hones but worked well for this particular student in the particular exam. Steve

Hi We have a student who usually uses an iPad to work, she is visually impaired and would use the Apple accessibility features to complete her work. This student is part of the Supported Learning Centre and is accessing some Essential Skills Exams this summer. Supported Learning use iPads for use in classrooms, The college use PCs otherwise exclusively. What do people do to restrict iPads for use in exams? We use inTune as our MDM Thanks Steve

Hi All We use Shared iPad across our centre with a fairly even spread of devices. However, in one area in particular we are getting an error message about not being able to take a photo due to a lack of memory. If you look into memory usage there is plenty available, restarting the device does not fix the issue. reimaging does however, but it's an error that reoccurs often. My guess is that its the amount of memory cached for a student login, we have restricted this to 3 being cached but still are finding the issue too often. Is there a formula that would suggest how many users to allow for a set amount of RAM? Or have I totally got the wrong end of the stick and we have an entirely different issue? cheers Steve

HI So we had a school that had been planned for BSF then continued by LA after BSF was ended, consequently, budgets were trimmed including IT, and the build was delayed by some time. The Head thankfully had been putting money aside towards the move so when it actually happened there was some money available to provide new interactive screens etc. Whenever we needed new kit (CCTV etc) it was brought with the idea that it could be integrated to the new school's system. Initially we moved the servers qnd desktops as they did have some life in them, these were replaced a year or so into the new school. What we did find, however, was that the switching etc was specced when the project was first thought of and not updated when the build was actually started. I found that I had issues with things like the Aruba wifi controller being end of life immediately and struggling to get this to work with the iPads we had purchased for the pupils to use (despite being assured that they would be fine). So my advice is to keep a close eye on the spec and the expected life cycle of the installation. If you can put some money aside for those things that aren't part of the build but will need installing. also any new kit that you need to get should be able to come across and fit into your new school. Have you looked at JAMF School (formerly Zuludesk) its good for managing Macs and without all of the complexity of JAMF Pro - I used both in former school JAMF Pro was too expensive in the end and JAMF School did everything we needed. Steve

Yes intune does the pushing of apps etc. don't know if it has a full feature set other then the obvious classroom thing?

Hi I'm in Northern Ireland and use an unattended petrol station regularly - its monitored by CCTV but I've never seen anyone there. It's not attached to a supermarket or any nearby company and unsurprisingly it's also the cheapest in the area! Steve

Hi Earlier this week I shook my wrist to wake my watch and to see the time and the face fell off It's a series one Apple Watch and I've had it at least 5 years, I've pretty much worn it every day with out any issues so I'm missing it ! I've looked at the Apple Store and it would cost more to get it fixed than to get a new series 3 replacement, so I guess I need to find out whether there are reliable (and relatively inexpensive repairers), out there? Also Some time ago I brought a reconditioned one from one of the regular contributors on here but for the life of me can't remember who it was - I've moved jobs (and Country) since then so have no access to any archived emails etc. If it was you, please could you contact me esp. if you have some going at the moment?
