Stopping .exe files from being run from a USB stick
cookie_monster replied to Kyle's topic in Windows
I tried this method and one flaw is that it only works to about 3 or 4 folders deep, try creating a structre and see if you can run an .exe file from E:\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\folder5 In the end we blanket banned all exes except from where we specified that they could run. -
Hey peeps, I've come accross an annoying issue with some new wireless netbooks that we've rolled out. I'm sure we set them up so hibernate was setup and that it would go to standby when the lid is shut. Now it seems that hibernate isn't set and they are set to never go to standby anyway this means that if a student doesn't switch the netbook off and puts it back in the trolly it runs until flat (not ideal). I'm going to have to enable hibernate on them all to start but what's the best way to set power options for all users if I set them as an admin the same settings don't apply to all users, can I set power settings in a profile and then copy that over the default profile so each new user picks them up? I'm going to have a play tomorrow but ideas please? They're all XP SP3 on a Server 2008 domain. Thanks.

Oh!!! that's quite an 'expensive' limit for a 'FREE' product. Typical. -
I've been asked to apply a SIMS patch (I've just taken over this box) and I can't seem to find it on supportnet the patch is apparently decribed in KB78205 but I can't find it even when I search the site. Can anyone point me to it and any docs on applying patches to SIMS to save me queueing on the helpline Thanks.

Can you tell me what's missing from the free product, anything that might affect a small site like a school with 6 VM's? Thanks. -
I remember reading about this a while back and the theory was that there was a massive glacial lake held somewhere on mainland europe and something (possibly an earthquake) released it and this is what flooded what would become the english channel. EDIT - Of course I could of seen all of that in the link you posted If I find the link I'll post it. EDIT Different link but it's the same content, halfway down the first page. http://www.qpg.geog.cam.ac.uk/research/projects/englishchannelfloods/physicstoday.pdf Some interesting stuff in there especially the hippopotamus remains under trafalgar square

I know what you mean I was in that boat for a while but when I realised that I didn't want to work in IT forever I started to think hard about it. I'm 32 now so it seemed like a good time to make a change.

I just picked up a pack from Halfords with first aid kit, high vis vest, triangle, headlamp things, distress flare, food rations, parachute...... that should cover it I’m sure the gendarmerie will still find something if they’re in the wrong mood, inappropriate footwear maybe? -

Yeh I read that but I think I'll notice a laptop hanging out of the service port, did you notice that the report was sponsored by Trend Micro -
Except for Networking Essentials which was a beast of a book I don't seem to remember the 2000 modules being much more difficult than the NT4 ones the exception of the 70-292 2003 upgrade exam which was the only one I failed
