The SAN will be on its own dedicated switch. I'm guessing you can aggregate the ports to increase throughput on your SAN traffic?

Hi. I've just purchased a DELL PowerVault MD1200 SAN and a Dell PowerConnect 5524 10GBe switch. I already have a virtual server. Over the Summer I intend to virtualise a large majority of my Servers and I'd like to connect my SAN to the virtual server. I've got a fairly good idea of how to set it up but I just wanted to see how you would do this in order to maximise performance, redundancy and efficiency. I don't want to start down a path and then realise I've made a mistake at the very start! A lot of people seem to suggest that your SAN switch should be on a seperate subnet mask to the rest of your network - is that correct? Thanks

Basically I'm trying to do a clear up on our file server because we are running out of space. I'm positive there are gigs and gigs of data just sitting there unused, so I'd like to archive this data somewhere. A batch file wouldn't suffice as it would need to troll through terabytes of data. I've started using 'Belvedere' and it seems to do the trick. I just thought there would already be some software out there dedicated to this sort of file management. Ta.

*BUMP* Just wondering whether anyone could tell me a piece of software that can do this, rather than the batch file method? I am currently using Treesize and Foldersize but they aren't very helpful at organising lists of files/folders by date added/modified. Thanks.

Long shot, but do you have an archived backup of the student's documents before they were password protected?

Hi. I'm trying to send an Excel spreadsheet via Outlook 2010, but I need the spreadsheet to be editable inside the body of the e-mail and for the formulas to work as they would normally do inside Excel. For some reason the forumlas don't seem to be updating. I'm sure this can be achieved but my brain is a little fuzzy this morning (I'm a Manchester City fan...) so any help would be great. Cheers!

It works here too BUT the text is really out of shape. It used to be justified but now its all over the show. Do you have your AUP as a reg key too?

Hi. I'm looking to rollout Windows 7 during the Summer so I'm currently getting to grips with creating new Group Policies. On our existing XP computers we used a registry key to display an AUP which had to be accepted before the User was able to log on to the computer. However, in Windows 7 this doesn't seem to work very well at all. I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for this apart from telling me to leave it out? Thanks!

Hi. Thanks for your suggestions. Eventually I was able to do a repair of the Server OS. When I brought one of the disks back online it corrupted the SharePoint_Config database in SQL but fortunately I was able to do a restore from a previous backup. Now I am in the process of rebuilding the array with some nice new disks Panic over... for now!

Its also our SQL Server and holds all our SharePoint data... I was hoping to avoid having to carry out your suggestion!

Hi. I've come into work this morning and 2 of my hard disks have failed in my File Server over the weekend. I have a RAID-5 configuration with 8x 300gb SAS disks. I managed to force one of the disks online and fortunately the Server has come back up. However, it appears as though the registry has been corrupted and services such as netlogon, server, workstation etc. will NOT start. Most of the school data seems to be online but no-one in the school can log on because their roaming profiles are on this Server and they don't seem to have permission to access their home folders, desktops etc. I also got the message "registry hive (file) software was corrupted and it has been recovered. some data might have been lost." I've performed a chkdsk /r but this done much. Someone suggested using the Registry Hive User cleanup tool (?). I've ordered 2 disks which I will install tomorrow to rebuild the array but I'm worried that the registry is completely screwed. Any help/advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

You don't need any of these qualifications. You just need to be very good at your job and come across very well in your interview. Of course it helps to have these courses on your CV but they aren't completely essential IMO.

I used to go to Stretford Grammar over ten years ago! I think it was Jack Dodd was NM at the time. Nice school.
