  1. That's basically what we've done - just pushed people to use the snipping tool directly
  2. That's a good point - as well all know staff like to let the 'good' kids use their logins 🤦‍♂️
  3. This is my mind - students shouldn't really be allowed to be in staff rooms - things have maybe been a bit lax here in the past regarding this. In some cases I've provided a spare laptop for them to use but its a pretty hard thing to justify
  4. Just getting a feel for how everyone handles this - I've always (in my previous and current roles) had policies in place to prevent students from logging on to staff PCs (in staff rooms, offices, classrooms etc) as there are plenty of desktops and laptops for them to use However I'm getting a bit of pushback on this now - and I know the argument that the students are working in there supervised is rubbish, as I've previously observed them playing games etc so I'm still of the mind this should remain in place. Plus I would say there are good security reasons for not becoming comfortable with students using staff areas How do you handle this, or do you let students login anywhere?
  5. I deployed via Solus today to 1 client and.....it worked! Haven't tried to deploy to anymore than that so not sure if Solus/Sophos have updated since I last tried
  6. I'm not sure if this is an issue with PP, WIndows 11 , Viewsonic, Philips or a driver but here goes... In PP - in full screen present mode our teachers write (on a Viewsonic/Philips or Promethean touchscreen) using their finger - this works fine and writing appears smoothly. However if they change the pen colour and start writing again the very first point of contact shows as a dot, then you can see the screen tracing your finger movements but the writing doesn't appear - until you then change the open colour again and then the already written text appears perfectly! Even when the text isn't appearing you can see the screen tracing your movements accurately Its odd - we're on 24H2 Windows 11 and the September release of 365 so pretty much up to date. I have to say I've never seen this behaviour in the past - so before I start trawling through the hundreds of possibilities (I'm thinking drivers, screen firmware, OS updates, 365 updates and so on) I thought I'd ask the collective mindset on here to see if anyone else had experienced this?
  7. We occasionally build a reference image and capture it to deploy using SCCM. Its worked ok in the past and it has been a little while but I tried to capture an old fashioned golden image again with a simply TS that has one task to capture the image to a share (the image is already sysprep'd) However at the capture stage I get an immediate error 0x80070490 which I believe is permissions based So when I edit the TS to check the username and password for access the destination share and use the verify button, it fails - with the error 0x80070056. Ok - so I set the path and username and password again, click Verify and all is good! Back to the capture - fails again with the same error Edit the TS and use the Verify button - fails again! Set the path and username and password, Verify works - save the TS and try to capture and the same error again I'm going around in a loop here as the account has full access to the share to write the image - but every time I save the TS and then re-open it the permission fails so I'm not sure what's happening Anyone else use a TS just to capture an image (rather than use the full Build & Capture TS that SCCM offers)?
  8. We're on 3.12.86.1 and have had the issue since July
  9. We're still seeing it too with the exceptions added. However I've spent too much time on this now so I've just accepted the fact that the Solus 3 console installation result is unreliable - staff let me know when the update has failed as they see the incompatible database error!
  10. Not using Lightspeed here - and it seems to have been a fairly isolated issue
  11. We've had a handful (i.e maybe 6) OneDrive installs suddenly bork themselves this week - in all cases a manual reinstall was the only fix Not sure if its related but we deployed the Sept updates end of last week so that will have been the only update they've received - and 6 out of 500+ might just be a coincidence
  12. All sorted - Smoothwall did indeed need to reset the link to our newer S9!
  13. I've logged a ticket - will see what they say when I get a reply!
  14. S9 is fully updated but the cloud shows that message even when no one is logged in and the groups and policies are well out of date - definitely not synched for a while!
  15. I thought so, it was setup before me and looks like the S9 was swapped in and the S8 left as the failover but the cloud link isn't established anymore!
  16. The smoothwall system I've taken over has an on prem S9 and a cloud filter account. Problem is the cloud filter shows out of date groups, rules etc and the serial in the cloud doesn't match the serial of the on premises device I may be reading this wrong, but isn't our on premises box supposed to push groups etc to the cloud? I can't change anything as it always shows the message 'Your policy has been locked due to an active login on your Smoothwall device' even though no one is logged in, so I think something is broken between the two systems - or the cloud is still looking at the old on premises S8 Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly but I'm trying to get this ready to filter some offsite devices using the smoothwal IOS browser
  17. Yeah its a bit annoying that we set everything to UK from tenant downwards and MS just decided to switch to US and tell us we can change it ourselves! That's fine for individuals but its a pain for a school!
  18. Policies didn't work and I did a bit of testing over the weekend - using a standard test account at home on Macos/Safari it still picks up the locale as US - so that's with no domain/network/GPO settings involved!
  19. Damn, that's a shame - but even then it will be a pain!
  20. Seems to be the way these days - we're scrapping VMware next year as Broadcom stuck two fingers up to any education customers. I'm not sure but Autodesk might work with Azure & SSO to allocate licenses but its almost guaranteed it will be worse and more of an admin pain than the simply network license!
  21. All set to UK in there as well!
  22. I saw that note - we renewed as a network license again so will have this rigmarole next year when they remove the network license option. I'm hoping to push towards an open source package such as Freecad instead as I imagine the 'more flexible and user-centric approach' will be an absolute pain
  23. Finally managed to create the policy - just took a dozen attempts! I'll see if it makes any difference over the next few days/week
  24. Yeah the fact the policy page takes forever to loads isn't a good sign!
  25. Interesting - there was no policy set for this so I thought I'd create one However that failed with an obscure error: Couldn't retrieve data for 'OfficeSettingsContainer'. Use '<guid>' to report this issue to Microsoft.
