[SAGE 200] Blank (white) login screen today?
MicrodigitUK replied to Jaan's topic in Enterprise Software
We just had this problem again today. Then I remembered that for the applocker policy we have set too a file hash because the executable it’s not signed. Obviously, with the Sage 200 updates there was a new unsigned executable that had a different file hash. Was chasing my own tail for a few hours before coming across this old thread, and looking in Event Viewer at applocker. The gotcha was you don’t get a normal applocker error message. And not even the white login box now, It just crashes executable. So giving this a bump if anyone’s got the same problem again after the recent Sage 200 updates. Don’t forget to update your applocker up policy If using a file hash after the update. -
Papercut, single printserver, azure authentication
MicrodigitUK replied to pjhunt's topic in Cloud Services
What domain is the print server on? Is it joined to the local domain? If it is on the local domain then you will need to implement "Azure AD Connect group writeback" to enable Azure devices to authenticate against it. Alternatively you could set up Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure AD DS), and join the print server to that. (This is more complex then the Azure AD Connect option, and has Azure costs!) And if the fist 2 options are a no go you can spin up a Linux CUPS server (not-authenticating) using IPP (Papercut Print deploy). And use PaperCut client to do the print job authentication. This Is the option we went for but there is a lot of config to get a CUPS print server working nicely alongside PaperCut client for authentication. -
P.S. A used Elatec TWN3 Mifare USB reader from an old photocopier will read the value in the correct hex format for direct input into InVentry and put the scan codes on the console application. You can normally find lots of them on eBay left over from old photocopier contracts and leases being sold off cheaply.

Net2 unfortunately only holds part of the card number needed for InVentry. So you can’t sync cards from Net2 to InVentry. But you can the other way round as InVentry holds the full card number in hex format. InVentry do have an extra program that can automatically import cards on schedule task from a basic CSV(Or it might be XML, can’t remember off top my head) referenced against MIS ID/ Admission number and the Mifare card number in hex. It’s just not part of a standard installation, and you have to know what you’re asking for to get it installed. The program has a name but I can’t remember it now, all I do know is it used more by their international schools that wanted an automated card import process. What we do is keep 1 central database with SIMS ID and card number. Then when a new ID card is printed it is updated in this central database. A series of schedule tasks and number conversion scripts then automatically imports from central database into Net2, Civica cashless, Papercut, InVentry, and library Oliver.

Anyone using RM for broadband
MicrodigitUK replied to robjduk's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I work as part of a multi academy trust, and at our sites we have a mixture of Schools Broadband (Talk straight), RM Broadband and a handful of other ISPs. Always found RM broadband to be the best when it comes to the RM SafetyNet Product for web filtering rules and their RM Connect (Complimentary firewall configuration product, 2-3 years old now), to make your own firewall changes without the need to contact their support for a change request. They also tie in the RM SafetyNet with local radius auth on WiFi And have a cutdown (RM Unifi) syncing tool for user groups from active directory. Note you do not need the full RM Unify tools but If you do have the full product you can get some additional granularity on groups in SafetyNet. By far RMs tools are the simplest to use but can also be the most comprehensive if needed. -
Yes with the OneDrive sync client this is an issue on shared computers or if a user moves workstation. Microsoft do you have a method for resolving this and it’s called FSLogix office profile. We use FSLogix for our profiles and It solves the issue described by using VHDXs And redirecting the files to these VHDX profiles. Then if a user logs onto another PC they just mount the VHDXs and carry on OneDrive Syncing the same files. Only downside is file storage space for the VHDXs and users can only log on to one PC at a time.

Any Idea if Microsoft have worked with other key educational software suppliers. The one that springs to mind is the PaperCut client for print management. If we can run that on Win11 SE I’m all in.

Xerox Altalink C8035 and Excel Single Sided Printing Issue
MicrodigitUK replied to foolsgold's topic in Hardware
Can you not just use the V3 PCL driver? Or even the V4 PCL driver? We have found the PCL much better than there PS drivers with Xerox Altalinks. And if you don’t need a V4 driver I would stick with the much more for functional V3 drivers. -
We had a third-party support company accidentally install it on SQL 2019 and even in compatibility mode we later saw issues which cost a third party several thousand pounds to get Capita/ESS to restore our database back to a new 2016 instance. Don’t do it it’s not worth it.

I think I read Microsoft announced last month that this feature was delayed until at least July 2022.

Issue with Inventry drive mapping inconsistently
MicrodigitUK replied to Jaan's topic in MIS Systems
We did exactly the same and domain joined it with InVentry supports help. Not had any problems running it from the file share directly after the join. -
If you do want to do the reservation then this webpage seems to have an example: https://www.networktasks.co.uk/environments/hp/provision/dhcp-server-on-hpe-aruba-switch
-
Dose it need a reservation really? If it’s a Windows laptop you can definitely set the IP address statically, both on a wired and wireless connection. I was thinking more something like a smart lightbulb that you wanted to fix an IP address for but it doesn’t Have a way to statically set it with no UI to configure it.
-
Wouldn’t it make more sense to reduce the IP “range” given out by DHCP. And set what you need with static IP address not dished out via DHCP. Or do you have a device that needs a static IP but you’re unable to set it statically hence needing a reservation?

[ms office - o365] Random issues with Shared Computer Activation!
MicrodigitUK replied to kennysarmy's topic in Office Software
We also use the shared activation of Office 365 (As we are OVS and only ESS get the full device licence entitlement/ activation shared activation is the only option fore shared devices.) and over the past month maybe even longer we have been getting the same issues as you. Students coming to the Door saying there Office is not activated. We have just been lining with this issue and as a work around reset the students profile tis fixes the issue but is a pain and not a proper fix. Where what path is the Licencing Folder (and others) and others in? I can't see from the screen snippets. -
Isn’t it clear that Bromcom need to increase their monitoring points to pick up on stuff like SSO authentication mechanism breaking. Or just not publicly have the status page if they’re not willing to increase the points they monitor.

[2004, 20h2] Office 365 - OWA signatures on web browser

Intrsting I’m looking to do something very similar in the near future do you have a link to the script or are you able to post a snippet? -

How did you sort it? -
We do exactly this in one of our task sequence. The trick is uninstalling the SCCM client at the very last minute and then sys prepping for OOBE. If I get a chance in the morning I’ll take some screenshots of the steps taken to achieve this in task sequence. The good news is it works really well just gotta get the order correct to ensure it removes the SCCM client.

The missing link is “FSLogix” Office profile to allow the OneDrive sync client cached data to rome between devices. The irony being you still need quite a large amount off on the site network storage to hold the FSLogix profiles with OneDrive data.

If you want a guarantee network adapter to work you need to enable the network stack in the BIOS/UEFI And use the official Dell USB 3 network adapter. “Dell Adapter - USB 3.0 to Ethernet PXE Boot” although if you can find another USB3 network adapter that uses the same chipset as the Dell one this will also be recognised in the BIOS/UEFI as PXE bootable. Different laptop manufacturers have different USB network chipset drivers built into there UEFI. So it’s just a question of finding the correct one that already has the UEFI network driver in the BIOS. Or just give in and by the official DELL one.
-
You will also find it in the Firewall requirements on this support page http://desktophelp.sage.co.uk/sage200/sage200standard/Content/Online/STD/Security%20and%20Firewall%20STD.htm
-
The answer is in the error message. If you look closely if using a non-standard port for some of it’s https communication. A firewall changes required. TCP port 2053 need to unblocking to app.sage200.co.uk
