its because desktop.ini is present in the user folder. (remove the file via script / GPO preferences / filter view in storage server) remove this file and it will present the correct folder in explorer

on the older printers there is an option to override the paper size and print to the tray. is the printers default paper options set to A4 when the printer is deployed / installed to the user?

Server 2012 / R2 Full with the hyperV role install or Hyper-V Server?

VMware is on an older existing host newer one is Hyper-V we only have 2 standalone hosts if we were to add more we would make a decision which way to go

i thinks its support ends in one of the releases late this year or early next

using a couple of Buffalo terrastations (one is linux based the other windows) a few years old and have replaced a disk in one which was a seagate which is what they fit in these (which has more to do with meeting a price point) consumer drives in a education/enterprise environment may have longevity issues but on the whole pleased with them. the unit reported a problem and the drive was swapped on array rebuilt no one noticed job done.

SSD will help them no end as the problem most people find on these is the inital loading times/response. they wont have as long a shelf life tbh. is there much of a price difference if you went for pentium based laptops over celeron / atoms

hmm mine is set to \\servername\sims\sims\repository but when i ask it to extract the upgrade is errors saying it cants contact the server (assuming the capita one?) cant seem to set any other folder under settings upgrades (running solus 3.9)

watching the SOLUS ui its taking a little while for the agent to get the correct IP for the client (agent is set to 5 mins to poll the server) i dont want to lower it anymore as having 100 machine constantly polling isnt something i want. possible other issue would be DNS taking a while to get the correct IP from the client (assuming solus doesnt just get this information from the agent)

remove it and your problem should disappear.

is this the repository folder? as all i have in here is .pkg files, i was expecting to find an MSI if i need to manually install sims without using SOLUS if there is an issue with the agent?

check that the IEAK hasnt left an .SQM file in the temporary internet folder in the default profile as a new user wont have permissions to this file and will cause the login to fail as it tries to create the users profile

have you rolled out IE 11 with the IEAK by any chance?

still swearing at a few machines which seem to take an an age to get the upgrade and then sit for another age while the workstation fix is applied and then SIMS is installed on the machine again. not impressed and has required more work than the old SOLUS 2. thats progress apparently. anyone lowered the deployment timings below 30mins as i have read the manual and this is the lowest setting possible?

installing the Navigator software is handy as it will give you the error in "plain english" (in my experience) rather than decoding the error LED's which is frustrating!

on a slightly different note but related to IE11 there is a "bug" in the IEAK toolkit which if you installed via this method it will leave a sqm file in the default user profile which when a new user logs in you will get a nice message of the user profile service cant log the person in, if the user already has a profile on the machine the problem doesnt appear. grrr MS blog post IEAK - User Profile Service Failed the Login

Servers need registered RAM for the higher density's as it wont support the modules. also i would check the manual for the server for how to populate the RAM slots as some servers can be funny depending on the type of ram setup you are using.

we have 3 ranges. 1 is for management - so switches servers printers. ranges 2 & 3 are assigned to our DHCP for the clients to pick up so the DHCP scope include our xxx.xxx.100.xxx xxx.xxx.101.xxx

in theory they would have updated the router/gateway to allow communication between the differing ranges
