Good grief - you mean that not everyone has them?? I just assumed that was what everyone saw. I usually only find them an annoyance when I'm trying to get to sleep at night - or when I start thinking about them..... like now for instance.... darn!

Our Headteacher knows the name of every single one of our 310 pupils. I don't know how she does it, she only has to meet them once or twice! I know quite a few of the names, mainly the older ones and the 'characters'.

See what you mean. It's not a route I normally use though so I can't say for sure whether it used to print the name on top. It surely needs to though. The route you used was the Attendance link from the Student Details page, presumably. If you print the registration certificate through Reports>Attendance>Registration Certificates, you can print pretty much the same report with the pupil's name at the top. Do you have access to Supportnet to stick it on there?

Hi Disease, I'll have a look tomorrow. I've got to print out some attendance statistics for Parents' Evening next week. Which report are you using?

Ah, but don't forget the 'placebo effect'! You've got it fitted therefore you will be more conscious of how you are driving therefore you will become a better driver. Obviously it will know whether you are exceeding the speed limit, it can probably tell whether you are tailgating from your speed and constant braking etc. I suspect that those will be the type of misdemeanours that would mark anyone out as a bad driver. Things that it wouldn't be able to tell would be whether you were on your mobile phone or eating a sandwich and swigging from a bottle of vodka -now that would be good!

@pcstru thanks there are some great ideas there. Didn't realise I could start off onions and garlic now. Though I may end up with enough garlic to supply most of East Anglia!

No I haven't done that. I do wonder about the soil as nothing is growing very large! Don't have a fish tank. May look at digging in some general fertiliser over winter.

We moved here two years ago and have put in a vegetable plot measuring around 4' x 20'. It took 3 sowings of peas before I got any to germinate. Carrots were a dismal failure, poor germination and small roots. I don't think I will bother with them next year. Tried celery, they ended up like twigs and about as tough! Star performers were runner beans, tomatoes in the greenhouse, courgettes, beetroot, onions and garlic. The garlic was an experiment that I will definitely try again. Have tried leeks for two years now, but I can't get them much bigger than spring onions. In fact, I think the spring onions were bigger! Any tips welcome! Lettuce - little gems and lollo rosso will definitely be back next year. Anyone got any tips for what I can put in now to take us through to Spring? The garden is just about the only thing that keeps me sane after work. I love it! Would so love to keep chicks, but the other half dotes on his lawn....

Hi Peterandom;numbers, Had it been someone known to the school, who mentioned a reputable charity, I wouldn't have had a qualm about it. It's just the whole unlikely scenario of someone flying from Nigeria to Aberdeen and contacting my school hundreds of miles away, by mobile phone, with no information about how this donation was to happen. The school that he mentioned, by the way, does appear to be a bona fide school in Nigeria. Gill

Or not? We had a strange phone call this morning and I was wondering if anyone else has too. A man phoned the school and said his name was Joe and he worked in a school in Nigeria. He had just landed at Aberdeen Airport and bought a mobile phone and was phoning schools to ask for English and Maths text books that he could have for his school. He said he would be in Aberdeen until the end of the month (bear in mind we're in Essex). We asked how he had got our phone number and he said from the phone book. We took his number and said we would pass his message to our Head. The cynic in me says this must be a scam, but I can't see how it works.... unless he's going to ask for cash to airfreight all his text books back to Nigeria! If there's anyone reading this in Aberdeen, perhaps they could go and have a look round and see if there is a man named Joe roaming around with a mobile phone, phone book and pile of text books anywhere.. I'd be interested to know if anyone has heard of this before and whether you reckon it's a scam..... or not! Thanks. Gill

Hi Gongalong, We don't have SIMS in the classroom, so I too, enter all attendance marks via the edit marks screen. The way I do it is to enter the marks a registration group at a time (our registration groups are typically between 25 and 30 pupils). From the dropdown box, choose reg group, and highlight all the reg groups that you want to access. I have the paper registers in the same order and then use the and buttons to scroll in order between the groups. Only takes 4 or 5 seconds to save a reg group, by which time I've opened up the next paper register. HTH, Gee

Hi Witch, Is he by any chance trying to import a Target Tracker (non-SIMS) assessment file into SIMS Assesssment Manager and translate the target tracker values of .0, .3 and .7 into c, b and a levels? I only ask because I attempted the same feat (in the company of a Capita trainer) and found that it was a horrendously long, slow, complicated and labourious task, and more importantly that all the .0 values would not translate into c levels e.g. 5c. The .3's and .7's would all become 5b and 5a with little trouble, but all the .0's had to be changed manually to show 5c. (5 as an example, but could be any level). I just wonder if that's what he's attempting. I decided in the end that it was just as quick (or slow I should say) to input the whole lot manually as it would be to attempt a transfer! I wasn't told why it was not possible (but then again I probably wouldn't have understood the why - I'm not a tech person!), just that it wasn't. I'm sorry that this is probably no help at all, but may give someone else a clue if it is what he's trying to do... (I should probably add that TT is excel based.)

Lightweights! I can't even remember turning thirty! It was completely eclipsed by turning fifty - and even that was a while ago! Still not acting my age though! It's just that everything hurts a bit more and takes a lot longer....

Hi pubgrub277, They are right. The SIMS Persistent Absentee report hasn't yet been updated to take into account the new 85% threshold for Persistent Absentees. I highlighted this on Supportnet sometime ago. I believe from discussions there that it is due to be changed with the next upgrade. Coincidentally I was at an 'Effective Attendance Partnerships' seminar this morning where we were told that the correct figure was 22 sessions at HT2, there is some discussion on this point though!
