.. Now I'm confused too. If you have them all in one registration group, don't they all show up in the one register (even if their part-time attendance has been defined)? Mind you it would have solved my problem with the same teacher assigned to both reg groups. At that time we had three intakes to Nursery and Infants a year, so they were on a rolling programme each term of joining and leaving nursery and school (it was a nightmare to organise I seem to remember!).

We had a nursery several years ago with the same scenario. I had each group set up as a separate registration group (which in effect it was). The problem I had was assigning the same teacher to both registration groups. If my memory serves me correctly, the only way I could do this was to set up the teacher twice in Personnel, but I suspect that has now been addressed.

In through the door at 7:50. Switch on workstation. Change backup tape over. Get keys out of safe. Turn on photocopier, cctv monitor and printer. Make pot of tea. Phone colleague in her classroom to tell her the tea's made (I make it; she pours it!). Take absence messages off answerphone. Clear emails (mostly junk). (And until recently - playground gate duty from 8:45-8:55). Then make a start on work! I'm a creature of habit - has to be done in this order or the day is ruined!

Any vacancies in your school??? Censuses are returns of children's and employee's information, such as inside leg measurement, to the DfE. We have School Census 3 x p.a. and School Workforce Census annually.

Here, both census returns are part of my role. I can't imagine how it can be done by anyone other than the person with overall responsibility for the integrity of the data. I am the Office Manager, we are a Primary of 320 children and don't have a Network Manager or tech support person anyway (other than me - which is a scary thought) and the Bursar only works with FMS. So long as you have a good understanding of SIMS, your data, and the census process it should be a doddle! *laughs hysterically*

We use it. We don't have SIMS in the classroom (don't ask) so it's all done from the office. I do Attendance, my colleague at the next desk does dinner money so we can double check both. Can pick up absences from Attendance (though I think we disabled that bit as I occasionally overwrote her dinner marks if we both happened to be working on the same class at the same time). It records monies paid by the child and produces statements and letters to parents. Works perfectly for us! Would I trust the teachers with it? Well, given that they can't complete the paper dinner registers or attendance registers correctly I don't see why giving them a computer to do it on would make any difference! It can also be used to record staff meals at different rates and can cope with things like Christmas dinner being a different cost to everyday. Should add that we are a Primary School of 320 pupils. EDIT: Sorry should also have said that it produces statistics for the kitchen staff and lists for the mid-day staff. The one thing I still can't get it to do despite Change Requests etc. is print a list of children going home for lunch (listening Phil?)

Doesn't alter the fact that it just ain't cricket to argue with the umpire's decision! Wasn't there another strange one later on where Prior (? or was it Trott) went to 'walk' following a catch behind off a faint 'nick' but was called back by the umpire who wanted to check whether it was a no ball or not? Not too sure what happened on that one - obviously he wasn't given out because they're still there. I was listening whilst in my sleep so I'm a bit hazy on that one.

Is anyone in a position to give me an update on the road conditions in Kent and Surrey. Specifically, the M25 from Dartford through to J9 which is Leatherhead in Surrey and also the road from Leatherhead to Epsom via Ashtead? Would be grateful for any help please! No new snow here in my part of Suffolk overnight, main roads appear clear, though I haven't ventured far.

Just taken my daughter two and a half hours to drive from Epsom to Streatham. Still, at least she did manage to visit her Gran in hospital, which is more than I did today! Have to try again tomorrow.

It should be possible though if they were to turn up with an Enhanced CRB in their hand, less than two years old supplied by the same LA, plus documentary evidence that they were that person, plus photo id to confirm their likeness. I produce the contracts in our school and I've never seen a paragraph about working in the nearest school in the event of school closure, though I do believe this used to be the 'accepted' case. Think it disappeared long, long ago! I'm not in school today, though it is open. I have a sick OH at home and an even sicker parent in hospital 90 miles away whom I was hoping to go and visit. Some hope - the main roads are gridlocked as far as I can tell from listening to the traffic reports.

Umm how does this differ from good old Grant Maintained Status?? Are they heralding it as a brilliant new idea?

You see I have a problem with the word cheaper. Something done on the cheap. That's what the connotations are. How are the cost savings being made. Would I have to sacrifice quality? Would the helpdesk be based in a foreign country? Would money be put into development and testing? Would the product managers be able to keep up with the shifting sands of government requirements? You would have such an uphill battle persuading me that your product was better I'm afraid! As for my being 'comfortable' with what I know. Well yes, I am, and I am not going to apologise for that! At this stage, I am not going to want to waste the 20 years of experience with SIMS that I have by going off to learn a new system - though perhaps it is what I should have done earlier in my career!

Don't think so. I am talking about my experience. In a Primary we don't have the luxury of a dedicated MIS manager to handle the training requirements of the admin staff 'in-house'. I am the nearest we have, but staff training is not my responsibility and I just wouldn't have the time. We don't even have 'in-house' technical support. We rely very heavily on the helpline and training courses. However, we have no budget for SIMS training ...... Do you see what I'm getting at? We can't be the only school (Primary) where this is the case.
