Very impressed with this feature. It is very easy to set up and has almost doubled the space available on my student drive. We have a large amount of data, and it was approaching 2TB. After running deduplication it is now around 1TB!

It usually means that certain elements of the page, such as the CSS, or images, are being blocked by your proxy as they are held on a different server to the main site. Is this a site that you have tried to unblock?

I've just discovered that the ability to send an email based on an event, or a task has been deprecated. I've always found this quite useful for spotting when backups fail, or when syncs have happened etc.. A quick google search does not give any reason why Microsoft have decided to drop this functionality, nor can I find if there is now an alternative recommended way of getting a notification based on a event. Anyone found a way? I'm guessing it may be too early to ask a question like this!

Frog upload Internet Explorer 9 Problem!!???
mitchell1981 replied to a topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Strange, that fixed it for us, after weeks with the exact same problem. Might be worth trying the Internet Explorer Standard Mode setting (in the GPO), just in case that is the one that does it. One of those settings definitely did it for us. Apologies if you've already tried both settings. Frog aren't great at fixing these things quickly, and the basic uploaded is a pain if you need to upload multiple files! -
Frog upload Internet Explorer 9 Problem!!???
mitchell1981 replied to a topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
This fixed it for us: Enable the Menu Bar Select Tools Select Compatibility View Settings In the settings window untick Display intranet sites in Compatibly View Click Close If that works for you, then you can roll it out using the following User GPO: Administrative Templates/Windows Componenents/Internet Explorer/Compatibility View/ Turn off Compatibility View - Enabled Turn on Internet Explorer Standards Mode for Local Intranet - Enabled -
Help to vectorise/improve our logo please
mitchell1981 replied to mitchell1981's topic in Graphics Requests
Great. I think we'll stick with it as it is then. I think my annoyance with it was due to working with poor quality bitmaps. Can I ask what package you use for your vector work? If I want to play around with it should I use Illustrator, or is there something else? -
Help to vectorise/improve our logo please
mitchell1981 replied to mitchell1981's topic in Graphics Requests
Thanks very much SYSMAN. Donation made! As a logo expert (I've looked through your portfolio) do you think it needs updating at all, or do you think it is ok as it is? Can you see any way to improve it? Thanks again. -
Can anyone help me to improve on this? This is our school logo and this is about the best version we have of it. I would love a vector version. Also, if anyone thinks they can modernise it in anyway please feel free, but I still want a vector of the original as I'll have to convince the head if we are to change the logo substantially! Thanks. In case it helps, the school name is Mascalls, and we are in Kent. The logo is supposed to look like an M and an A, and also Oast Houses. It is quite clever, but I think it looks a bit dated now. Colours can change, but blue is the school colour. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

[ipad] Managing iPads in school?

Thanks AngryITGuy, in that case, I think we'll get ourselves a Mac Mini and give it a try. -
[ipad] Managing iPads in school?
mitchell1981 replied to TechSupp's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We've got a set of thirty iPads that get booked out in a wheelable trolley. The staff love them, but they take up so much of our time due to kids messing with settings. I've looked at the iPhone Configuration Utility but it doesn't seem to go into anywhere near enough detail with the settings. Does anyone know how to do the following: - Prevent students changing the wallpaper - Prevent students turning on accessibility settings - White on black, audio feedback etc.. - Prevent students moving icons around and sticking them in folders If we could sort out these small niggles it would make our lives so much easier! -
Hi All, Wasn't sure if to post this in Enterprise software or the VLE section, but I think the problem is with Exchange rather than Frog so I posted it here. Frog have set up our server to relay mail to our Exchange 2010 server. This is used for things like web forms in Frog, the results can then be sent to an email address. We have just noticed that this works fine for internal addresses, but if the Frog server tries to send to an external address then it fails. The following error email is returned. Are there any Exchange experts on here who can understand the error, and tell me if there is any way I can allow these messages through. Thanks very much.

Drivers prompting to run at logon - holding up task sequence
mitchell1981 replied to mitchell1981's topic in O/S Deployment
Hmm, no, all the drivers are in the driver database. This screen pops up after the system reboots for the first time. Having investigated further I think the problem is that the driver installs a startup item (unnecessary extra volume control in the taskbar). I guess that is what I need to disable. Perhaps I'll try and remove that driver completely and see if Windows Updates provides a less intrusive driver. -
Hi all. I've got my deployments running nicely now, except for on some machines where certain drivers stop the process in it's tracks. The error is shown in this screenshot. If you remove the tick and press ok, it goes away and the deployment continues without problems. I'm assuming this is to do with the drivers being unsigned or something silimar. Screenshot I can't do much about the available drivers, so my question is can I do something in my disk image to stop these prompts completely. Thanks. Edit: I'm using MDT 2010. I ticked the option for the MDT prefix but it didn't show for some reason.

Are you running SP1 on your workstations? I vaguely remember this being mentioned as a bug that was fixed in SP1. I used to have this problem but not any more and my Windows 7 machines are running SP1.

Thanks for the replies. The SIMsync utility sounds ideal. I will contact them and see what they say. Unfortunately we use CMIS rather than SIMS which could throw a spanner in the works!
-
Has anyone come up with a good way to extract class lists from the MIS and use the information to create groups in active directory (for mailing lists etc..). Obviously this would have to be redone each year, but if anyone knows a good way to do this it would be very useful to us. Thanks.

Wireless Laptops - Domain not available
mitchell1981 replied to mitchell1981's topic in Wireless Networks
Thanks. I'll take a look at drivers then. Just wierd that is affecting many different types of computer. We have a Meru network, and no, not using Radius at the moment but may move to it soon. -
We seems to be getting a lot of problems with our wireless laptops (and a few wireless desktops). They will work fine for serveral weeks and then suddenly someone will try and log on and get the error message: "Unable to log on, the domain is not available". Logging on locally it is clear that the wireless network is still connected with a good signal. The machine is still in active directory and still has a valid IP address. The only fix is to rejoin the machine to the domain, and then it works fine again. This only seems to affect wireless clients and seems to be very random. We have a Meru wireless network. Does anyone have any ideas? I had a previous suggestion that this might be caused by machines that had not been sysprepped, but all ours have. Thanks.

Hi, We have a lot of laptop to image and networking them up with cables is a huge faff. Does anyone use something like this: USB 2.0 & eSATA Docking & Cloning Station for 2.5" & 3.5" SATA Hard Drives | SATA & eSATA | Drive Enclosures | Hardware & Security | LINDY UK If you do, can you give me some idea of how reliable it is, and how long it would take to copy a 30gb image? Thanks. Tom.

Thanks that looks like the sort of thing. I'll give it a try!

Does anyone know of a piece of software that can monitor various items on a network and then display the infomation in a nice format for a display screen. I have a large plasma screen going spare (it's damaged and doesn't display colours that well). I would like to monitor things like switch status, server status, printer status etc.. I don't know much about it but I believe that SNMP is designed for this sort of thing. Are there any applications that use SNMP and make it easy to display information in this way. Thanks.

We have just installed a Frog Server. It has two IP addresses. One for the standard web connection and the other for management. Frog have asked that we open up port 8443 to the management IP address. All our incoming traffic is sent through an ISA server sitting in a DMZ. The ISA is set up in Single NIC configuration and basically just forwards web requests to the relevent servers. The only ports open between the Internet and the ISA are 80 and 443. Am I right in thinking that I can use the bridging options to accept requests on 443 and forward them to the Frog server on port 8443? Will this work? I'm currently struggling but I think this maybe becuase the Frog server currently has a self signed (and therefore untrusted) certificate. Will ISA not work at all (with SSL) without a trusted certificate? Sorry, my knowledge of ISA is very limited and I'm learning it as I go. Tom.

I am trying and failing to get Activesync working internally. We are using Exchange 2010. I am trying to connect an iPhone to my mail account. The iPhone is connected on Wifi, directly to the school network. As far as I can tell ActiveSync is enabled in the Exchange Management Console. It is configured to use SSL and the certificate is installed. When I bring up the ActiveSync properties the 'Internal URL' is listed as: https://mail.mascalls.kent.sch.uk/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync Visiting this link prompts for authentication, then gives the error message: The page cannot be displayed because the HTTP version is not supported. Is this normal behaviour? On the iPhone the account details are accepted but when you then go into the mail application it just says: The connection to the server failed. Finally, what should be put in the 'Server' field on the iPhone? Should it be: mail.mascalls.kent.sch.uk/ or mail.mascalls.kent.sch.uk/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync or something different? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
